[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] LET THERE BE CAKE [attr="class","next"] ”Atwell?” Tania pushed open the door to Atwell Easter’s house with her hip, the paper bags full of groceries and other goods nearly tipping over as she did. “Yooo hooo. Soph? Atwell? Olaf?” She asked, peeking her head into the living room — no one was there. There was a bit of disappointment on her face as she made her way to the kitchen and finally set the bags down on his countertop. Where was everyone? Normally this house was bustling with voices and Sophie was running all over the place. Tania smiled as she leaned back against the counter, thinking about Sophie. The girl was a blessing for Atwell, she really was. Made him admit that he wasn’t such a tough guy all the time. And Olaf…well, Olaf was their housemate and Tania loved him too. She shook her thoughts away and began unpacking the groceries. Necessities: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, sugar free gum, sugar free candy canes, sugar free— Tania glared at the pie that she had picked up from one of the local bakers. She was fairly certain that there was sugar in that. She pushed it to the side as she narrowed her eyes. Milk, string cheese for Sophie, ice cream for Olaf, eggs, flour, vanilla. She smiled, everything she needed was there. Atwell’s house was a safe place for Tania. It was a place where she knew she didn’t have to be anything other than herself. As she grabbed one of the bowls from underneath the counter, she poured some of the ingredients in — just eyeballing the amounts that she needed. They were going to love the cake that she was baking them. She was hardly paying attention as she haphazardly poured flour all over the counter and onto her. She was covered by the time the front door of Atwell’s house swung open. The batter was everywhere and Tania stood there — all smiles.

| Atwell had a long day with Sophie around the town. Although she wasn't a toddler she was still a handful at just thirteen. At this time Atwell had just dropped her off at her friend's home for a sleep over and had to walk himself, and her six new canvases, home.
In one hand he held two bags full of freshly made paints with many paint brushes sticking out from every angle. In the other hand he managed to get his hand around enough of the canvases to keep them balanced, even when she handed him her backpack for school. With a grin and a nod he happily made his trip back to his home without the young girl he had bonded with all morning long. The man had a soft spot for her and if that wasn't clear before today than it surely was now.
He carefully made his way up the steps to his newly moved in home and used his right knee to swing open the door for himself. The door hit the wall to the small closet inside making his entrance sound louder than it truly was. Once inside the door, he let the canvases slip from his hand onto the nearby couch. Atwell dropped the backpack on the floor beside the door as he turned his head to the right and quickly turning it back when a figure caught his eye.
He jumped back a bit before letting out a deep breath of relief. "Geeze, ya scared me, mate." He rubbed his fingers against his brows. "What're ya doin' here, T?" Atwell called out as he walked to the dining room's table and placed the bag of paints and brushes down before going back into the kitchen where Tania was. He walked behind her and peeked over her shoulder to see what she was making as he moved around the island. He stopped on the other side of island from Tania and narrowed his eyes- she had flour all over herself and the kitchen.
"Is that flour?" Atwell raised his eyebrows at her, "Crikey.." He muttered as he swept up a thin layer of flour off of the island. "What are ya makin' usin' so much flour?"

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] LET THERE BE CAKE [attr="class","next"] ”Easter! Surprise!” Tania yelled from the kitchen when she realized who it was. She threw her hands in the air, nearly losing her grasp on the bowl that was in her hands, but somehow she managed to keep it within her grasp, though she couldn’t say the same for the new layer of flour that had covered the kitchen. Atwell was going to kill her when he saw just what a mess she had made over here. “Oh god, where’s Soph?” She attempted to peer around him, but there was no blonde little princess following after him, much to her disappointment. He came up behind her and stared in the bowl, “It’s cake. Well it’s the beginnings of cake. It will be cake. At some point today I will be making a cake.” She said with a laugh as she plopped her finger into the batter and then stuck it in Atwell’s mouth, demanding that he taste test for her. They had always had a good relationship — Tania trusted Atwell with more than her life and she knew that he felt the same. Sometimes it was nice to have someone so kind in Wonderland. Sure, he had a hard exterior, but once she had gotten past that, she had found him to be one of the kindest souls that she had ever met. Often, she would come over and surprise him and his housemates like this, although she was sure that it was rather uncommon for a house guest to be making such a mess. Perhaps it was a testament to just how much she made herself at home. “Flour, eggs, sugar, vanilla, sugar free gum—oh god, no, no that doesn’t go in there.” Tania said as she fished out the piece of gum that she had haphazardly thrown in. It was caked in the wet mixture and she threw it into the sink with a shrug. “I went grocery shopping! There’s toothpaste and toothbrushes and a couple things of floss, lots of sugar free gum and—oh! Oh you brought home paint supplies, didn’t you!” She exclaimed as she dropped the bowl onto the counter and crossed to the dining room table where he had left the supplies. “Will you paint me some time?” She asked, picking up one of the canvases and looking at it with interest.

| Surprise!
It was certainly a surprise alright. Tania stood behind the counter with a large mess surrounding her and all Atwell could think of was thank goodness there's someone home. The young woman didn't live there, sure, but Atwell would never protest if she ever needed a place to stay or simply wanted to be over. She was always welcome in the home which was why she knew where the spare key was. Atwell let out a noise to let her know he was hurt that she immediately voiced concern about Sophie's whereabout.
"Oh no- I left her at the paint shop! I'm a horrid parent!" Atwell joked as he walked out of the dining room after sitting the bags down. "Nah, she's at friend's house for tha night. Probably won't be seein' her til dinner tomorrow night, if you want to join us." He proceeded through the kitchen and grabbed a mug from the cupboard before starting the coffee machine. Atwell was simply happy Sophie had friends her age because she was always wearing him down. By 8 o'clock he was plopping himself down in a chair with almost every intention to sleep there but always mustered just enough energy to last him a couple more hours.
Atwell peered over Tania's shoulder and thankfully he didn't see the gum that was inside of it before she shoved a finger coated with batter into his mouth. It wasn't nearly as sugary as the last cake he and Sophie made together but he was certainly not going to tell Tania that. Atwell simply raised his brows, half in shock that she shoved her finger into his mouth and half in reaction to the taste of the batter, and made a noise of approval. He moved to the other side of the island from her and sat down.
"I don't know much about cake but I know for a fact gum is not an ingredient." He spoke dryly, raising his brows at her as she fished the gum out of the batter. "Ya gonna make icing from scratch too? Should I ready the wet rags?" Atwell teased but with one look around the kitchen it was hard not too.
When Tania told him she had bought them new tooth brushes and other oral hygiene products, Atwell shook his head. It was a very typical thing for her to do. Atwell couldn't remember a time he had bought a toothbrush himself since arriving in Wonderland. The man came to his feet as Tania dropped the bowl and darted into the dinning room, he held his hand out from the side of the counter in hopes the bowl did not take a tumble. Once it stopped moving he pushed it further toward the center of the counter before making his way around the island to fill his mug with fresh coffee.
Will you paint me sometime? Tania stole Atwell's attention from the coffee that almost hit his lips. He looked up from the mug and chuckled, "I dunno sheila, I haven't had much time to paint myself. Besides, those are Sophie's new canvases. I was hopin' she'd paint me something for the dinning room with the big one over there."

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] LET THERE BE CAKE [attr="class","next"] “That is not funny, mister!” She returned, but she couldn’t help but grin around the whole thing. Of course, it hadn’t been concern about Easter’s parenting style that had elicited the question in the first place, but her disappointment that his ‘daughter’ wouldn’t be joining them for cake. Oh well! She knew Attie had a bit of a sweet-tooth sometimes. “Would love to,” Tania said as he offered to allow her to join the household’s dinner plans. She always felt at home with Atwell — often in the ‘playing house’ sort of way. “What’re we gonna have? Can we do breakfast for dinner again? Soph loved that.” She decided against telling him that she loved it as well — an adult with a chocolate-chip pancake and strawberry milk fixation seemed rather childish, given the circumstances. She watched Atwell carefully, waiting for some sort of reaction. Did he like it? Did he hate it? She assumed if he hated it, he would have had something very strong-worded to stay to her. Biting down on the side of her lip, she tried not to laugh as she continued to whisk the batter. As he sat across from her, she offered him a giant smile. “You should raise an army of wet rags. It’s going to be an all out battle. Me against the confectioners sugar. Nasty business. Who’ll come out alive?” As she ran into the dining room, she could see him trying to stop the bowl from toppling over. At least one of them was always thinking ahead. “Who wants to paint themselves? That's boring.” Tania practically wined, picking up one of the brushes and canvases and pretended to visualize what it would be like. He creativity was pretty much zero — her skills were more focused based. In fact, she had recently discovered that she knew how to speak at least two other languages, although she couldn’t place their exact origins. There was no way to know how many others she had stored in her brain. “This big one?” Tania put down what she was doing and held up the large canvas as she turned it side to side. There was a perfect space for it behind the table. It would look beautiful next to the window. “Maybe she’ll do another one of the bunny. You know that adorable little landscape you’ve got hanging in your room? I think that one’s my favorite. Well, that one and the little pixie thing she does sometimes.”
Artistic distractions aside, she returned to the kitchen and peered into Atwell’s cup. “Coffee? At this hour?” She shook her head and flipped on the oven, preheating it to a certain temperature and then looking at the coffee machine. She could use a pick-me-up, she thought. Tania reached up and tried to grab a cup from his cupboard, although it was higher than she had though. “How…how was work, by the way?” Straining on her tip-toes, she attempted to grab a mug with little luck. “I—” She jumped, again to no avail. These were the days when she wished she had wings or could fly. Surely that wouldn’t have been so out of the ordinary here in Wonderland. “Can you—?” She extended her fingers to the top shelf, looking over at him, rather pitifully.

| Atwell enjoyed Tania's company, espcially when there were no children around. The man didn't spend much time with people his own age except for the occasional drink at the tavern with Daniel. Even then Atwell didn't spend more than a few hours out chatting, The man enjoyed the extra company when his daughter was around, sort of spread the energy that way. Tania adored Sophie and Sophie adored her, so he never gave a second thought when planning a dinner for the three. "Can we have breakfast for dinner again?" Tania asked him as he came into the kitchen. "I don' see why not." Atwell gave a shrug of his shoulders and flashed her a grin. He was also a big fan of pancakes for dinner.
At the island, he watched her mix the batter some more as he rubbed his chin- he managed to get a few drips of the batter there. "I think I'm goin to need a wet rag." He announced with a chuckle, rubbing his chin again to make sure that it was clean this time. Atwell chuckled at Tania's story of her against the sugar. "Ahh, I've got money on ya', T." He wink with a grin. "Give 'em hell." Atwell leaned forward, dipping his finger into the batter and quickly bringing it to his mouth.
After saving the bowl from possibly falling, Atwell filled his mug with coffee. The man practically lived off of it which was why the home constantly smelled like a freshly brewed pot. Tania looked through the canvases and their sizes, almost all of them were a different size. "Maybe she'll do another one of the bunny." Atwell's eye's laid upon the large canvase above the firepit where the painting of a colored egg with feet hung. It was strange how all of Sophie's paintings seemed so familiar to him. ".. That one and the little pixie thing she does sometimes." He looked over at Tania, his eyebrows furrowed.
Before he could even mention to Tania that, although he adored the paintings, they left him with a curious feeling, she came back into the kitchen and questioned him about drinking coffe. "Ay, you can say whatcha like but don't ya dare judge my coffee." He took a sip, "It's the one thing that keeps me goin." Tania asked him how work went as she strained to grabbed a mug. Atwell smiled lightly and rolled his eyes as he effortlessly gabbed a mug for his friend without a word. "Eh, it was the same." The man turned, putting his hand on the counter and leaning into it. "Can I ask you-" He leaned in towards his friend, "Do Sophie's paintings seem.. A bit familiar to ya?"

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] LET THERE BE CAKE [attr="class","next"] There were few people in Wonderland who Tania liked more than Attie. He was her best friend and she often would pop over unannounced and he would deal with it. That was more than she could say for some people. Atwell leaned in and Tania instantly raised her eyebrows and gave him a light hearted salute, “Fire away, Easter.” She said with a grin, but his question made her feel a little strange as if they were skirting around something important. She turned away from him briefly, to fill up her cup with the coffee and throw a few spoonfuls of sugar into the cup before she answered. “Familiar?” The brunette turned around, leaning her back-side against the counter as she sipped on her coffee. It needed more sugar — but that was bad for her teeth. Always a catch 22 with coffee. “I dunno, I guess? She draws the same ones over and over again so we’re bound to start to recognize them more, right? Plus that little sprite is so adorable!” Tania cracked a smile as she took another begrudging sip of the coffee. But Atwell was right. It seemed like something more sometimes. Like the strange green and blue little creature meant something to her. And that rabbit. She found herself smiling. “Yeah. Yeah, they do.” She answered truthfully before shrugging her shoulders. “But don’t ask me what it means because I have no idea.” She put her mug back onto the counter and picked up the bowl, giving it a quick stir before she started pouring it into the pan. The batter was thinner than most — mostly due to the lack of sugar. Tania hoped it would taste all right, seeing as cakes weren’t her strong suit. She was much better at sugar free cookies. “Maybe we’re going crazy?” Tania asked, trying to make Atwell laugh. “Or maybe —“ She put the bowl down and held up her index finger, as if she was on to something. “Maybe they’re residents of Wonderland! Maybe we’ve seen them around town! Although, I think I would remember a rabbit and a fairy, wouldn’t you?” She ran her finger against the side of the bowl and plopped it into her mouth. Instantly she scrunched up her face. It was awful. “Needs sugar.” She said, shaking her head and laughing. All that she did and it came right down to the sugar in the end.

| Atwell nodded slowly with raised eyebrows, "Yea, familiar. Really familiar." Tania didn't seem as worried about as he did. His daughter and himself spent a lot of time painting. He had asked her where she came up with what to paint and all she'd say was recreating it from a dream she had. Her dreams were pretty vivid, he assumed, since her paintings were in such great detail and color. Tania mentioned that she made the same characters over and over again and that that must of be why they seemed so familiar to him.
He let out a deep breath and turned so that he was also leaning his back against the counter. "That's reasonable." He spoke softly, staring off into the other room before bringing his coffee cup to his lips again. She didn't deny that they were familiar to her as well but she didn't seem as bothered by it as him. Atwell didn't know how to bring it up with his daughter. The closest he ever got to questioning it was asking her how she came up with these drawings of which she simply explained she had dreamt them. The man saw a familiarity in not just the eggs or the colorful Warren but in the blue-grey bunny. He grew attached to the bunny she drew on occasion - who was he and why did he need boomerangs? It started off as curiosity and then an attachment before he realised. This bunny reminded him of himself.
Atwell frowned at Tania as she joked that they were going crazy for thinking too much into the artwork of a young girl's. He wasn't crazy, he just wasn't. Right? His brow furrowed when she suggested they reminded them of residents in their town. "Yea, I've never seen a bunny hopping around with boomerangs or a colorful life-sized fairy 'round here." He rolled his eyes, it sounded even crazier outloud. "I dunno what it is, T." Atwell pushed off from the counter and walked past the island to look into the living room. "There's somethin off.." His voice trailed off as he stared at the large painting above the fireplace.
"Maybe I am goin' crazy."
