Eric loved Saturday mornings. As much as he loved his job, he enjoyed having a day off. Strangely enough, he spent his day off doing exactly what he did for a living, and that was fishing. However, casual fishing was more relaxing, and whatever he caught was dinner for himself and his dog, King. He didn't have to meet a quota or get fish to the village in time. Nope, Saturday was definitely not a day for obligation.
Eric wasn't in the boat he used for his job. He also wasn't as far out into the sea as he usually was. Instead he was in a little rowboat and near the shore and his seaside home. With him was his loyal Husky, King, who sat quietly and looked about for the fish Eric was trying to catch. He was a smart canine and knew one good bark could scare them away. However, he did alert Eric when he saw a good one by perking his ears up.
It seemed a slow day for the fish, but Eric didn't mind. He just laid back and had his fishing pole at the ready just in case. Even if he didn't catch any fish, he and King could grab something in the village. Sometimes it was nice to have something other than fish after all. King always appreciated a good steak. Eric watched for King's ears to perk for a bit, then began to nod off.

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] HONOR TO US ALL [attr="class","next"] She always found herself running. What was it about running through the forest that made her feel alive? Mulan dug the balls of her feet into the grassy leaf-lined forest soil as she jumped over the roots left above ground by the trees. She had pissed off Hook with asking too many questions — he and pulled a knife and she had pulled…well, she had pulled a sword that she had stolen from the castle which only led to more questions. Where’d you learn to wield something like that, love? Been stealing from the castle, eh? So she had run because she couldn’t explain it. She couldn’t explain that she knew exactly how to wield the weapon because she had once been the most feared of challengers in ancient China. Her feet hit the sand, alerting her to a terrain change. She ran toward the dock, her feet padding against the wood as she went. There was a boat a few yards out — she could make it. Mulan turned to look behind her, no one was following but she couldn’t be too careful. She braced herself for the impact as her feet left the dock and she went hurtling toward the water. It was freezing for the summer months. Using all of her remaining strength, she swam toward the small rowboat that was near the dock’s edge. She grabbed the side and began pulling herself up but that was when she saw it. The giant dog looming over the boat, “AH.” She growled, recoiling from the side. of the boat and glaring at the canine. Certainly larger than Little Brother, she thought as she stared up at the husky with its tongue hanging out of its mouth. It hadn’t tried to eat her yet, had it. Tentatively, she grabbed the side of the boat again and this time the dog licked her salt-tainted fingertips as she pulled herself over the side of the boat. Mulan had hardly realized the other human in the boat until she was lying on her back, staring up at the blue sky, still trying to catch her breath.

Eric was fast asleep. He had been working harder than he thought. He was too occupied with strange dreams to notice the newcomer on the boat. The dreams were about mer-people of all things. He had no idea why he was dreaming of mer-people, but one of them looked like the beautiful lady he had recently met in the village. Perhaps he really did need to lay off the seafood. It took King to wake him up. King didn't see the girl as any kind of threat, but he still wanted his master to know they had a visitor. He licked his master's face a few times until Eric woke up. He chuckled at King and pet him. "Okay, okay," he said. "What is it, King? Did we catch something?"He then sat up and stared wide-eyed at Mulan. He certainly wasn't expecting a lady, and a lovely one at that, popping into his boat. "Um... hello," he said. "Welcome... to my boat... I guess. I'm Eric and this is King." He then raised an eyebrow. "Are you okay, Miss?"MULAN ZHU FA

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] HONOR TO US ALL [attr="class","next"] Mulan’s face fell as she realized that it wasn’t just a dog that was in the boat, there was also a man. Eyes wide, she pushed herself to the side using her feet and stared at him, trying to figure out what to do. She could jump into the water, or she could stay. The choice was hers. “Hello….” Mulan returned as she looked toward the beach that she had just left behind. Hook was nowhere in sight, meaning that she had officially made it out of his grasp and avoided all the tedious questions that he had been firing at her. “Good to meet you, sir.” She said, finally pulling her eyes back to the man that she was now boat-mates with. He seemed pleasant enough. She knew that he wasn’t from her past life — she would have remembered a face like that. He was handsome, prince-like. Mulan wondered where exactly he had come from. Probably one of the more subtropical countries. She shook her head. There was no way for her to know and no way for him to know either. That was a part of the curse. Sighing ever so slightly she realized that he had asked her a question. She assumed that it had been something regarding her running off the dock like a mad-woman. “I’m…I’m good, thanks. Good.” She said, reaching up and pulling her dark hair into a pony-tail using a bit of twine that she had located on the boat’s floor. It felt better that way — shorter and off her neck. It let her breathe. “Ran into a man back there. Nasty run-in.” She explained before shrugging her shoulders. “I’m Mulan.” She thrust out her hand in introduction, trying to play up her masculine features. She wasn’t entirely sure if he could be trusted yet and it was easier that way…acting like Ping. "I've got an idea..." She grabbed one of the oars and threw it in his direction before picking up the other and raising her eyebrows. "Row."

Whoever the girl was, she didn't seem hostile or anything. That was good. A fight on such a small boat wouldn't be all that pretty. King wasn't aggressive toward her, and he was usually good at picking up on bad intentions. In fact, he gave her face a big lick. Eric chuckled at that. "King says hello as well," he said. He then nodded when she said shew as okay. At least her thinking she was okay was a good sign he supposed. Still, how the heck did she wind up on his boat of all places? He was about to find out. She wasn't trouble, but had apparently ran into it. Was someone chasing her? She then introduced herself. She had a nice name, but before he could tell her so, he asked her to row. Suddenly, Eric had found himself involved in this trouble as well, and he didn't know who or what was after them. He decided not to take chancing and began rowing quickly. Once the boat got moving, he looked at Mulan. "I hate to sound rude and direct, Miss, but could you please explain what is going on here?" he asked. "I'd kinda like to know what I'm suddenly involved in."MULAN ZHU FA

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] HONOR TO US ALL [attr="class","next"] Mulan reached up and ran her hand against her forehead, wiping away some of the sweat and salt-water mixture that had settled there. They were going — far away from the beach and far away from Hook. That was the last time that she decided to press him for answers. He was a nasty man. She was glad that she had grown up in China where she had avoided pirates like him. She caught Eric’s eye and realized that he was going to ask her what they were doing. Briefly she considered jumping out of the boat — talking wasn’t her strong suit lately, not when she remembered and everyone else thought they were just regular people, but they were already too far from shore and Hook was still out there waiting for her. “We’re making an escape.” Mulan said, her eyes scanning the horizon. She couldn’t see him any more, so her strokes slowed to a gentle lapping. The boat moved against the waves, but the lateral motion was all but halted. She at least owed him some sort of explanation. “I ask too many questions. A trait it seems we both share.” Mulan said with a small smile in his direction. “Have you met Hook?”

Well Eric got his answer and quickly. It wasn't a pleasant answer, but he sort of expected it given the circumstances. He did calm a bit when the strokes slowed down. He saw that King was laying near here, a bit in shock with what was going on. He pet his dog to comfort him. "Easy boy, easy," he said. " I'm still trying to figure all of this out too, but I'm pretty sure the nice lady over there is trying to help us." King looked over at Mulan and whimpered a bit. The dog had certainly found her to be an interesting one. Eric then glared a bit at her when she said he asked too many questions. He was a nice guy and all, but could get a bit defensive now and then. "Hey now, I usually don't ask this many questions," he said. "It takes a situation that's... well like this for me to be this curious." He then thought a bit when she asked if he knew some guy named Hook. He sighed and shook his head. "Sorry, but I don't. Is he the guy's who's after you?" It was probably a stupid question, but apparently Mulan already assumed he asked too many, so why stop now? MULAN ZHU FA
