“Not just any sort of waterfall of course. Something that leads into a lake with all sorts of dangerous, exotic things. It would be so cool,” He said, more to himself than to her. His eyes were sparkling with a daydream that he had not indulged in for a long time. He had not really thought too much of the future beyond actually getting out of Wonderland and getting his memories back. He didn’t want to waste his time with thinking of something that might not even happen, something that may change the moment he got back to his world and the moment he remembered who he actually was. The daydreams had been getting more and more frequent as his initial obsession faded into the dark reaches of his mind. With each passing day with nothing to show for it, Buddy found himself losing faith in not only the technology he had access to but in himself. And that was more disappointing than anything else.
At her question about whether he would be happy being back to who he was, Buddy gave a shrug of his shoulders. “I would just have my memories. It would be like an awakening. The person I was before…I feel as though I would like them. I would understand them and hopefully they did not make any stupid choices and decisions. Again…taking the opportunity to have an island…” Or the least that his former self could have done was procuring a hovercraft. Or rocket boots. Oh God, please rocket boots.
He collected a pinch of sugar and let it sprinkle down into the spoon of coffee. He collected a few more pinches and sweetened the drink more at Tania’s request. He brought his own mug to his lips and inhaled the aroma. The particular smell was of interest to him but it wasn’t his favorite part about drinking coffee. He needed the caffeine when he was working late into the very early morning hours. Once he got an idea in his head, he wanted to work until everything was perfect. If he could just work for days at a time with no sleep than that would be the preference. If he could work for weeks straight so he could have the finished product in his hands, that would be better.
Over the edge of his mug he saw the first few seconds of her fall. He instantly dropped the mug, his hands going forward in an attempt to grab her. The mug shattered on the floor, wasted coffee spreading out on the linoleum floor. He slide down on his knees as he tried to reach her before she hit the ground. It was a stupid move on his part seeing as though it was so impulsive. And he didn’t even catch her. She grew before his eyes and fell to the floor with no harm….And…what was that he was feeling?
“Shit!” He yelled out as he realized that a piece of the mug had lodged itself into his left knee, going through his pants and cutting his knee. The hot coffee was adding fuel to the fire. He was prepared to complain viciously until he heard her groan out in pain. And suddenly she seemed more important. He moved over to her and put his hand under her head, pulling it up from the floor. “Are you okay?” He asked as he went to move his fingers along her scalp to check for a bump.
