Jack had found a few places that he really enjoyed. Places that brought out the upbeat kid in him. The Wood was one. The Fields were another. Such wide open space and such tall grass, who wouldn't enjoy that!? Jack was there now, running through the fields for a moment before he collapsed into the tall soft grass. He turned his head to the left and saw a few small flowers creeping up out of the ground. He smiled, and let a little laughter escape his lips, before reaching over to touch the pink blossom.
It seemed to wilt away from him but he actually wasn't that upset about it. Plants often struggled around him. He assumed it was because of his ice cold skin. He had no idea why his skin was so freaking cold, but he had discovered that part of himself early on. Well, at least he knew one thing about himself. Cold skin. What an accomplishment!
No, he didn't want to feel bitter right now. He turned away from the wilting flower and looked back up at the clear sky above him. Yes, this was comfortable. This was warm. And someone was walking toward him...

out of the sea wish i could be part of your world
Ariel was incredibly giddy that day. There really wasn't a reason for it, to be honest, but she couldn't help but feel very much in a good mood. The previous day she'd also managed to trade for quite a few specialized and desired items in the village which meant that on this day, Ariel could do just as she pleased. She didn't need to work on gathering anything to trade for food for the coming days or anything of that sort, so she was excited to take a day for herself. Ariel quickly jumped out of bed and slipped into shorts and a loose top, then headed out towards the fields - and the fact that she was out of the house before her roommate was quite telling, indeed.
As the sun kissed her face, Ariel walked along the path of the village that led to the fields. She didn't have much in mind as far as plans in the fields, really. She just wanted to spend some time to herself. That was a strange thought, though. Normally Ariel wanted nothing to do with being alone, but she supposed sometimes people needed time alone to think and digest everything going on. Plus, Ariel just wanted to enjoy the fields as they were, the nature of it all, without really being disturbed. Most of her friends would want to talk and gossip and chat, where that day that wasn't something she was looking for.
A soft laugh perked her interest as she furthered her position in the fields. Ariel became intrigued, curious as to who would be out here, obviously laying about because she couldn't see the boy - at least she thought it was a boy due to the laugh. Ariel grinned and continued walking until she came across him: a pale-haired boy who was content among the tall grasses, obviously intrigued, in turn, by whomever had been approaching him. "A little strange to be out here laying in the grass, isn't it?" she asked, tilting her head to the side but smiling all the while.

Jack waited as the girl approached him, though he didn't know it was a girl until she was right beside him and she spoke up. She didn't seem to be an unkind person. In fact, her smile was rather inviting. Jack, feeling to relaxed to worry about being bitter right now, decided he would be kind in turn. Not that he was usually mean on purpose, but it did take a little effort to be kind on purpose. "Obviously not that strange if the flowers do it. See?" Jack simply lifted a finger to point out the little flower growing beside him to the girl.
He sat up, looking back up at the girl who had come to stand beside him. "What brings you to the fields?" he asked, bending one knee and relaxing and elbow upon it as he looked up at her. He would stand, but the grass really was quite comfortable and since he was feeling so pleased at the moment, he didn't want to ruin it. No, it was better to just stay in the grass where he was content, maybe he'd just stay here forever. No, he knew that wasn't possible but it was nice to dream, right?

Ariel smiled at his remark, unable to refrain from giggling. "Yes, but see," she started, then knelt down and gently ran her pinky around the rim of one of the flower's petals. "It belongs here." Ariel smiled and looked back at him, raising an eyebrow. "Do you, then, too?" she asked, then sighed. "Sorry, I guess that's not a very nice question...considering...none of us know where we belong," she whispered. Ariel sighed and then laid down in the grass, looking up at the sky above them.
"You know I'm not normally so distraught about it - you must be making my heart cold," she mused, then turned her head and grinned at him cheekily. "Well," Ariel said, moving her arms to rest on her stomach, "I guess I had no where else to go, honestly." That was true, though. She didn't have much else to do. "Normally I'd be out in the wood gathering things, but thankfully I've caught up enough that I actually can take a day off and just do...nothing. I mean it probably sounds boring but I'm glad for it," Ariel chuckled. She bit her lip, shrugging. "What about you? What's brought you out here?"

What a strange question, asking if he belonged here. Granted, it made sense with where she was going in the sentence, but it was almost kind of harsh. She caught herself, though, apologizing for the words since no one knew where they belonged. He wasn't expecting her to join him, however, and he instinctively moved over a little to make space between them. It wasn't that he was afraid of touching her or anything. He had discovered that he had ice cold skin, and he didn't think that anyone would really be comfortable with bumping into him because of that. "Well, if I had to choose somewhere to belong... it may as well be in this field, right?" he said, turning on his side to look at her lying beside him. "You must be making my heart cold," Jack was a little taken aback by this comment, and it showed in his face. But when he caught her grin, he chuckled, smiling back. "Doing nothing can be pretty nice at times, I think," Jack commented. He had been doing nothing since they all had arrived here. He didn't really want to get involved... "Oh, me?" he shrugged and also turned on his stomach, propped up on his elbows. "I guess this is one of the few places that I feel... sort of awake in. You know? Like, this wide open space feels familiar. The sun is... not, but I like the wind out here," he explained. ARIEL NERINE MORGAN

Ariel grinned. There was something about this guy that made her smile a lot - and it probably wasn't that they were really clicking more than it was his demeanor. He was just very nonchalant and blunt about things, like he could care less what her opinion of him was. And maybe it was much deeper than that, but that was just the sort of vibe that Ariel got from him, and, thankfully, that didn't phase her one little bit. In fact, it made her respect him a little. Ariel was the type to not care much about other's opinions, too, and that sort of rebellious attitude might just be the very thing that brought these two together.
"Oh yea, absolutely! Doing nothing is nice, sometimes...but sometimes it's not so nice because it leaves you to think, and thinking can be dangerous - or dwelling, rather," she said, closing her eyes. That was one of the main reasons she tended to stay busy, to keep her mind off of why she was here and who she was. It was hard living day to day without knowing who you really were. But, at the same time, she wanted to just move on with life and keep at the present. There wasn't much they could do about the past now - at least, that's what she thought.
She nodded because not only did she understand, but she felt the same way. "Me too," she replied simply. Ariel didn't need to say anything more than that; she knew that he would get it. "So what do you do? I mean, do you have a job or anything?" she asked. Maybe it wasn't the nicest way to ask since it was a bit blunt, but that was just how she was with things - straight-forward, for the most part.

out of the sea wish i could be part of your world
Ariel could understand that feeling well. With nothing to really dwell on, you ended up feeling more lost than ever. It was hard enough living in a world where new things popped up daily, whether that be locations or people or beings, but to look into your mind and find nothing was the worst part of all. At least if there was something to dwell on, there might be possible answers and solutions to the problem at hand. But with there being nothing in the mind, there were no solutions - nothing to fix what had been done. And that was the worst, really - feeling helpless. She didn't have words for him, and simply hummed a soft "Mhmm," in agreement, hoping that would suffice.
Her eyes opened wide when he said he was on strike. She couldn't help but laugh, pushing herself up slightly and looking at him. The grin that crossed her features couldn't be wiped away. "On strike?" she questioned, her eyebrows raised. She'd never heard of anyone being 'on strike' from what happened. She mused. It was an interesting theory, to prove to people he wouldn't accept this world and whatever happened that made them all lose their memories. "I think that's actually really brave," she said with a smile. "But then again..."/ she mused, laying back down, still looking at him. "I don't necessarily think that not being on strike makes you weak. Maybe you might feel less...at war with yourself, if you simply let life be. I guess that's what I do. I don't want to be here and I'm certainly not happy about it, but I'm also...I guess not willing to let it consume who I think I might be."

As per the usual reaction, Ariels eyes widened as he mentioned his being 'on strike'. He couldn't help but chuckle a little at the face she made. Almost like a fish out of water. Especially with the laugh that followed and the light hearted nature in which she addressed his philosophy. Most people told him it was pointless, silly and unwise. But she thought he was... brave? Of course, the other side of the spectrum wasn't weak, he agreed with that. They just treated this differently than he intended to. She had a good point, of course. That it was okay to let it be and stop fighting with yourself. Jackson was constantly at war with himself... it was a prefect description of what he was going through. He nodded once, sighing slightly and laying back down himself. "I guess it's also brave to make a part of this world, take it in and find yourself again. I just..." his voice softened, "I don't think I'm ready for that. I wish I had any inclination as to who I might be, as you say." ARIEL NERINE MORGAN
