William Michael Desnee, or Mickey as a many who knew him called him, was a happy guy. He often wasn't completely sure why he was happy, but he was. He often walked about whistling and seemed to always enjoy his day working at Magic Kingdom Putt-Putt. He loved watching people have fun and relaxing. And despite the heavy taxing from the Queen, he made sure to charge low prices. He wanted everyone, rich and poor, to enjoy the place. If there was one thing that he knew for sure made him happy, it was hanging about with his best friend in the whole wide world, MINERVA TAYLOR WALTERS. Minnie was everything he could ever want in a friend. She was so much like him, but different in wonderful ways as well. Since it was early and the Putt-Putt hadn't opened yet, Mickey decided to play a quick game. He never grew tired of Putt-Putt Golf. Perhaps it was because he always tried to do better. He was still far from doing a perfect eighteen. Mickey grabbed his club and a red ball. Red was his favorite color for some reason. He couldn't leave home without wearing at least one thing that was red. Today it was his pants. He then whistled away as he headed to the first hole.

"TWO OLD SOULS, TWO YOUNG HEARTS." Mornings in Wonderland where peaceful, more peaceful than Minerva would have imagined that morning so many weeks ago. She'd found great comfort in the cool breeze coming through her open window every morning. There was always something to look forward to in her new home, especially after she and William Desnee had opened the Magic Kingdom, as she so fondly called it. She would hardly call it work.
This morning, as finished getting ready to open up their establishment, she realized something was amiss. Her small cat, Figaro was no where to be found. Ever since she found the kitten, hungry and cold out in the rain, he had been attached to her feet, never straying too far from his owner. Minnie told herself he was finally branching out and exploring the place, but the doubt stayed at the back of her mind. He's fine, you'll see, she reassured herself. Even so, she was already on her way to find one of the other employees in hopes that they had seen him.
It was then that she saw Mickey. She refused to call him William, Mickey just seemed to fit him much better. Her mind drifted away from her cat for a moment, as she watched with a small, amused smile on her lips. Even from where she stood, she could hear his soft whistle. Her legs started to move toward him, without her thinking about it. grabbing a club as she passed it along the way. The sound of her feet was muffled by the material composing the small course. Her hand moved up to her hair and straightened out the thin pink bow resting comfortably there. It had been her first, true possession in Wonderland, something that Mickey himself had given her and she had a habit of wearing it often. Sometimes she felt foolish at the thought of how obsessive she must have looked to others, but she loved that bow.
"Do you mind if I join you?" Minnie softly touched his shoulder for a second and continued to smile. In all honesty, she was horrible at the game, but he seemed to enjoy it so much, she was willing to keep trying.

Mickey was focused on the first hole. This, being the first hole and all, was a very easy one. It wasn't until later on the course that the golfer dealt with the obstacles of windmills, human-made streams, and of course the grand finale of the course, the Mountain From Space, where if the golfer made the ball go up the miniature model mountain and into the hole in one putt, said golfer won a free game. It was tougher than it looked though. Mickey had never gotten a Hole-In-One there before. He had made the par, which was four, and even did a three once. But never one. He laughed a bit at the fact that his own invention outsmarted him. Mickey was just about to putt when he felt the touch on his shoulder. He turned and smiled at the girl who always made his day. He propped the club on the wooden "Hole Number One" sign and gave Minnie a big hug. He never greeted Minnie in the morning or bid her farewell at the end of the day without giving her a hug. "Good morning, Minnie!" he said. "And sure, I would love for you to join me!" Mickey knew Minnie wasn't that great at the game, but he still loved playing it with her. It was all in fun anyway. "TWO OLD SOULS, TWO YOUNG HEARTS." It took all of five seconds for Mickey to put his club down and pull Minnie in to a hug. She immediately wrapped her arms around him, a quiet giggle managing to escape from her lips. Every time he embraced her, she pondered why she felt so at home. It was as if she belonged right there, fitting perfectly like a puzzle piece. This was the highlight of her day and she was lucky enough to repeat it at night.
Even though she would have stood there with her arms around him all day, she realized that wasn't practical at all. Seriously, Mickey was nice to her, but then again he was nice to everyone. He was a good, nice boy. To think that he felt the same connection that she did was too risky, she couldn't flat out as him. Maybe she was reading too much in to this, maybe she wasn't. She pulled away before she let her mind get out of control, she could drive herself crazy thinking too much about it.
"Good morning to you, too!" She nodded toward the hole he had rested his club on. "I was hoping you could teach me a bit more, I'm afraid I'm still not very good at this."
Minnie usually stayed at the arcade for this very reason. She handed out tickets and prizes, often striking up a conversation with guests, and often making new friends. That was easy for her. She enjoyed watching people play, watching from afar was a good way to learn, she thought. Then again, Mickey managed to make everything fun for her.
"I'm determined to be as good as you one day."

It was indeed true. Mickey was kind to everyone. It was just his nature to want to bring joy to others. However, even he had people who were particularly special to him. Minnie was at the top of that list. She was everything one could want in a friend, and there was just that special bond. Mickey sometimes wondered if he was in love with her or if that had a bond similar to what two close siblings had. He was still trying to figure that out. But he knew for sure that, in some way or another, he loved her dearly. Mickey smiled when Minnie asked if he could teach her a bit more. "Of course, but you are getting better every time," he said. "At least I think so." Mickey then chuckled about Minnie wanting to be as good as him one day. "Well, I'm definitely no expert. I'm still trying to get that hole-in-one on Space Mountain." That what Mickey usually called The Mountain From Space. It was strange that he called it something different from what he originally named it, but Space Mountain was just catchy."He then took his club and posed. "Okay, remember to line up your putter with the hole," he said. "By the way, what are your plans for this evening? I thought maybe you and I could grab an ice cream sundae after work."MINERVA TAYLOR WALTERS

"TWO OLD SOULS, TWO YOUNG HEARTS." His compliment brought another bright smile to her face. She was ecstatic to learn that she might be making improvements. She was serious about being as good as him when it came to this. There was nothing worse than being held back while everyone around her was amazing at it. Her eyes followed his every move, her body mimicking his.
"Space Mountain, now that's something. You're almost there, I believe in you."
What was she doing that evening? There was something she had to do, something she was forgetting about. Minnie racked her brain, straining to remember. Then the wave of realization hit her. Figaro!
"Oh no!" Mickey's question went unanswered. Instead, Minnie dropped the club and her hands covered her mouth. "I... I can't find my Figaro. I came out here looking for him and I got distracted."
She felt absolutely horrible. What kind of owner decided to play when her cat was missing? Despite her best effort, she couldn't keep her eyes from tearing up. "Oh, Mickey, what am I doing? I should be out there looking for him."

When Minnie said she believed in him, even over something as silly as putt-putt golf, it still warmed his heart. He believed in her too of course. He knew Minnie was destined for great things. "Thank you, Minnie," he said. "That always means the world to me when you say that."Then Minnie showed her concern about Figaro. Mickey liked Figaro. He was a good cat and great companion for Minnie. Mickey and him got along as well. Mickey was thinking of getting a pet as well, a dog maybe. He would probably name him something like Neptune or perhaps after another planet. What was it with Mickey and outer space? "Well then," said Mickey, putting his club away. "What are we doing playing golf indeed?" He smiled at Minnie to help calm her down. "Let's go find Figaro, shall we?"
Mickey was like that for Minnie. He would do anything for her at the drop of a hat. True he had to open the Putt-Putt soon, but he could always stick a sign up. He was sure the patrons would understand. He knew how worried Minnie would be all day if she couldn't find her feline. "Do you know of where he might have gone?" asked Mickey after putting up the sign. MINERVA TAYLOR WALTERS

"TWO OLD SOULS, TWO YOUNG HEARTS." Minnie would have protested, even begged for him to finish his game while she looked for her pet, but she knew once he set his mind on something, there was no turning back. It was his nature to help those around him. She tried to smile back at him, but she could only manage to nod her head at him. She followed right behind him as he set up a sign. They were usually slow the first hour of business, hopefully she would find Figaro by then.
"He was with me this morning," she answered, running a hand throw her hair. The last time Minnie had seen the small cat, she had been in the arcade setting up the prizes for the day. He'd purred at her feet, but she was too busy to see what he wanted. She'd leaned down to rub his head and made a promise to give him as much attention as he'd like after she was done.
"I'm not sure, he's not used to these surroundings yet. I can't imagine he's gotten too far. But he's so small..."

Mickey could tell Minnie felt bad about Mickey stopping his game to help her. She, like him, was exceedingly kind and unselfish. But he was more than happy to help her. Plus Figaro was so small. What if the cat had found himself in a bit of trouble? Mickey couldn't bare knowing he had stood by idly while something terrible happened. Minnie saying that Figaro was with her this morning reminded Mickey of how loyal the cat was to her. That was a good sign that he wouldn't have strayed far from them. Mickey smiled and put his hand on her shoulder. "I'm sure he's nearby too," he said. "I couldn't see any pet wanting to walk away too far from an owner as wonderful as you are." He meant that of course, but he hoped it would cheer her up a bit. He then thought. "Hmmm, I have an idea..."
Fortunately Mickey had brought a tuna salad sandwich for lunch that day. He went into the staff area, grabbed half the sandwich, and walked back out. "Maybe this will draw him out a bit," he said hopefully. He halved the half again and handed part of it to Minnie in case she wanted to go in a separate direction. MINERVA TAYLOR WALTERS

"TWO OLD SOULS, TWO YOUNG HEARTS." Was this his lunch? Minnie watched silently as he split it in half and handed one part to her. She hesitated before accepting it in her hand. If she'd taken better care of Figaro, Mickey wouldn't have to give up have of his lunch. She'd make it up to him somehow. She started to walk away before turning to him once more, "Let me know if you see him? I'll go look around the concession stands."
In reality, she was making a big deal out of this small problem. Figaro was small, but he was smart enough to have stayed out of trouble for this long. If she was lucky, he would reappear any second now. Her wishful thinking didn't amount to anything as she looked behind the corn dog stand and then moved to the cotton candy machine.
"Figaro?" she called out and was met with resounding silence. Minnie placed the tuna sandwich on the nearest stand and crossed her arms before speaking to Mickey, "Anything yet?"

(Figure I'll have Minnie find him since Figaro is her cat.) Mickey did not think twice about giving up half his lunch. A half sandwich would do him just fine. And he would rather be hungry than not help Minnie find dear Figaro as best he could. No cat could resist a good tuna salad. He nodded at Minnie to take it. He then nodded again when Minnie told him she was going to the concession stands. "I'll check around the game booths," he said. "Maybe he found a stuffed animal to cuddle up with." He then headed that way. "Figaro? Figaro?" he called. "Come here, fella. I have some tuna for you!" Nothing yet. Mickey sighed. He hoped the poor cat was okay. He heard Minnie ask if he had seen the cat yet? He walked over, frowning. "No Figaro yet. But it's a big place, so we have lots of ground to cover. Maybe he went into the funhouse. I took him in there the other day and he seemed to enjoy exploring all the rooms." He shrugged at Minnie. It was more wishful thinking than anything. "It's worth a shot anyway. If he's not in there, we can check the gift shop."MINERVA TAYLOR WALTERS
