In the beginning, Miguel was alone. Those weren’t the best of times. Being a little orphan scavenging along the gambling and whorehouses in Seville was not particularly the best life. Life consisted of rummaging about through the trash for his next meal or trekking to a market to beg from adults. As he got older, the begging and rummaging slowly stopped as he began to pick what he thought was a better way to live his life. He did not discriminate who he stole from, whose pocket he picked. In his eyes, if they had extra coins just bouncing around, they didn’t need it. Not the way that he needed it. Miguel was not alone forever though. There was someone that came into his life. [break][break]
He had met Tulio when, most interestingly, the two of them both had the same mark. Wordlessly, communicating only through their eyes, they worked their mark. Miguel posed as an annoying beggar boy, distracting the attention of the mark while Tulio picked the coin purse out of the man’s pocket along with the jewels off his fingers. The two of them ran away as soon as Miguel was shooed away by the man. They met up in an alley where the two of them split down the profits of their venture down the middle.[break][break]
It was never really spoken, never really established. They became friends at once, partners that became better than ever. They couldn’t work alone after that. There was no thought of even finding other partners or bringing additional people into their fold. Miguel and Tulio, conmen that ravage the marketplaces with a combination of quick wit, theatrics, and loose morals, were absolutely inseparable. Who knew that the very thing that brought them together would cause such a rift in them? [break][break]
Greed was an ugly thing but jealousy was an even darker affliction that drove the two of them apart. Miguel never admitted to being in control of his vices but he always assumed that Tulio was the more levelheaded of the two. He shouldn’t have to worry about Tulio being smitten with some woman and losing sight over what was important. They were important. If he was able to abandoned what he loved for that, why couldn’t he? Why couldn’t he just do it?[break][break]

“Orlando, you’re absolutely mental. And brilliant.”[break][break]
Aurelio had met Orlando as soon as he woke up in Wonderland. The two of them had an instant connection and an instant plan. To fool everyone in Wonderland by selling them stories about their past lives. And with that they had set up shop as it were. The caravan they invested in was hardly worth its weight in wood but Aurelio tried to spruce it up the best that he could. Then he came out with the advertisement, spreading the rumors through Wonderland that he and Tulio had their memories and they knew every single person here in Wonderland. And people came flocking, desperate to know what they were like before they had lost their identities. Aurelio and Orlando made it up as they went along, for the most part enjoying how creative they could be with the stories. And everyone was eating it up. Everyone was believing it and wanting more and more. The gold and the bartered goods were piling up. All they had to count on was that the memories could not come back. But they wouldn’t, right? Each one of them had their memory wiped clean. There was no way anyone could be caught because there was no proof that they were anything but what they were saying.
