Ella was born into a very loving family she was loved by her father but most of all loved by her mother. Ella has very few memories of her mother but what she does remember is nothing but love. She can remember the feeling of her mother’s arms wrapped around her, she can remember playing out in the garden behind the house. Her mother was very beautiful; the paintings that used to hang in their house kept her mother’s look alive in the young girl’s mind for many years. Ella’s mother died when she was four years old. The last happy memory Ella has was one evening as the sun was setting. She was sitting on her mother’s lap, fireflies danced all through the sky as the light hid away. The feeling of her mother’s fingers running through her hair her gently voice singing a soft song. Her mother always sang songs reminding her to always be good, to always keep her heart open. Her mother always believed the best in people and she would do anything to make sure her daughter saw more of the light within people other than dark human nature. [break][break]
It was only a few weeks later that Ella realized that she would never again be in her mother’s arms. She would no longer hear the songs, or feel her mother’s fingers running through her hair. Her father was heartbroken, he loved his wife very much but he loved her beauty most of all. He often told Ella that since the moment he laid eyes on her mother he was taken with her beauty and knew he had to posses her. When Ella was eight years old her father and her were in the market, he turned and saw a very beautiful woman. He introduced himself to her and soon she started to visit their manor. She would bring her two daughters who were about the same age as Ella. The girls were just as pretty as their mother but they had ugly personalities. Ella did not like the way they talked to the servants; they took pleasure in making their lives miserable of course never in front of her father though. [break][break]
One evening Ella overheard her father talking to the woman, he told her she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Ella could feel herself growing angry; she used the same words that he had spoken to her mother. When the woman asked about his late wife and her beauty Ella’s father simple shook it off. He said that she was much more beautiful than his late wife, that she was all he ever wanted. The next morning Ella woke in a foul mood. She wanted to yell and scream, she wished that her father had never seen this woman in the market. She wanted the woman to disappear and her nasty daughters. That was the first time she heard her mother’s voice, reminding her to be calm to be kind. It took all of her strength; she walked outside into the garden and sat on the stone bench that she and her mother would always visit. Instantly she felt calm it was if her mother’s arms were wrapped around her once more. That was when Ella realized the only way she could feel close to her mother was to stay kind no matter what would happen. [break][break]
Within a few short months the couple were married, now Ella had two stepsisters and a stepmother. She tried to keep and open mind with her sisters but they were both cruel to her when no one was around. Soon the pictures on the wall were no longer of her mother but of her stepmother and her stepsisters. Ella hated that her stepmother had taken over but she was the mistress of the house now. Her mother’s shadow no longer loomed over the Manor; truthfully it was if she was erased from existence. When ever Ella would try and talk about her mother her father would scold her that bringing up her mother always upset her stepmother. Little by little Ella stopped talking about her mother, she watched each day as her mother’s pictures disappeared along with her dresses and jewelry. One night Ella snuck into the attic and looked into a trunk holding the last remaining items that belonged to her mother. She took out a simple pink dress and a locket, she knew if she took anymore that someone would know and make her give it back. She snuck into the attic every night to hold onto her mother’s things but one night when she was ten everything was gone. The only things left of her mothers inside that house now was the dress and the locket that she had hidden away. [break][break]
When Ella was eleven years old, her father grew sick. The doctors had no idea what was wrong with him but it wasn’t long before her father left the world as well. While her father was alive Ella’s stepmother was never loving but she was never cruel to the young woman… just cold. Once her father was buried in the ground everything changed, the cold that she received turned to cruelty. Ella no longer had her bedroom but a tiny space up in the attic. Her stepmother loved to spend money on beautiful dresses and a way to save money was to get rid of all the servants. Her stepmother forced Ella to pick up all the work that the staff used to do. She went from a lady to a maid. She found out that her father had left everything to her stepmother and nothing to her. It broke her heart but she had nowhere else to go, she had to stay with her stepmother. [break][break]
When Ella turned eighteen a messenger came to the door with an invitation to the King’s Ball. He was looking for a young woman to catch his son’s eye to become the Queen. Her stepmother snatched in invitation away and she started to prep her daughters for the ball. When Ella asked if she could go all three laughed, she did not have a gown, she was nothing but a dirty maid covered in cinders. Her stepsister turned to her and said [break][break]
“Why would the Prince pick you Ella? Covered in cinders” her other sister let out a squeal of a laugh. [break][break]
“Cinders Ella, Cinderella” From that moment on that is what they referred to her as, she had been stripped of everything that her mother gave her even her name. Her stepmother laughed along with her daughters but now that Ella was eighteen she could leave and probably support herself now. To keep Ella happy she told her if she finished her work and was dressed properly she would be allowed to attend the ball. Ella was so excited even though her stepmother had given her an impossibly long list. [break][break]
Sadly that did not happen, Ella finished her chores and even brought her mother’s dress out of its hiding place. Her little friends who happened to be mice helped fix the dress while she worked. When she arrived downstairs to leave with her stepmother and stepsisters they tore the sleeves and the beads. The mice had taken things that the girls never used but of course when they saw didn’t want Ella to wear it. She ran into the garden crying as her family left laughing, Ella was heart broken. She had wanted to go to the ball so bad. That’s when the feeling of her mother’s arms wrapped around her. It will be alright my little love. Ella opened her eyes, she did not see her mother but a woman standing in front of her. The woman announced herself to be Ella’s fairy godmother. She told her that because of the love her mother felt for her that before she died she made contact with the fairy to watch over her daughter. That when Ella really needed guidance that she wouldn’t be alone. She used her magic to give Ella a dress and everything she needed for the ball. She warned her though that the spell would only last until midnight and then everything would be as it was before. [break][break]
Ella arrived at the ball, within seconds of walking in all eyes were on her. The dress she wore was as blue as the clear sea. The light would catch it and sparkle like dew early in the morning. Her blonde hair cascaded down her back, and her feet were pressed into perfectly fitting glass slippers. Whispers started trying to guess who this woman was, no one recognized her. Not even her sisters or stepmother could recognize their usually dirty maid. When the prince laid eyes on her he wanted nothing more the rest of the night. The two danced all night long, she couldn’t believe that the prince wanted her. She hated hearing the clock strike midnight, she ran out of the part the prince at her heels. While she went down the stairs a slipped fell off, she knew she didn’t have time to grab it so she left if behind. Ella made it home before her family; the only memory of the night was the glass slipper. She didn’t know why but it did not disappear. She hid it in her room with her locket and went back to her daily life as a maid. [break][break]
Weeks went by and soon everyone found out that the Prince was covering the Kingdom looking for the woman who had run away. He was having the women try on the slipper. When he arrived at their house her stepmother heard Ella humming one of the songs from the ball, which is when she realized that Ella had attended the ball. She locked Ella in her room and went downstairs to her daughters. When her daughters couldn’t fit in the slipper she lied and said there were no other women in the house. That is when Ella was able to get out of her room and rushed down the stairs. Her stepmother tripped the squire and he dropped the glass slipper, it shattered on the ground. That was when Ella pulled out the other slipper; the squire put it on her foot. Ella was whisked away to the castle to marry the Prince and live her happily ever after. [break][break]
The two were married very fast; she allowed her sisters and mother to move into the castle. Her mother had taught her to be forgiving, and even though her life was hard her stepmother never threw her onto the street like she could have. A year after her wedding Ella started to second-guess her marriage, she left like her husband had only wanted her for her beauty. That he didn’t love her, for her. She wasn’t able to really focus on those feelings before the curse hit and she was whisked away to Wonderland, she was no longer a Queen but a maid in the Red Castle. She has no memory of being Queen or anything from her life before.
