I wish.... [break] [break]
No other words had been directed to the evening star as much as those two words had. It was a comfort to those gazing up at the night sky, the hope in their eyes was something so familiar. It would twinkle right back at them, wanting more than anything to help. It had been there since the beginning of time, watching young lovers find each other, monsters of humanity getting what they deserved, and its favorite; a young girl in New Orleans wishing for her and her father's wish to come true. On rare occasions, something magical would take place. Something even the star could not explain. If you were lucky, the evening star would shine down at you and your dreams would become reality. Of course in that rare moment in time, things would go awry. Surely, when that young girl wished for a sign, she had not been wishing for a frog. However, these things would occur for a reason. Although the evening star wished to help, forces in the universe would not allow it to simply grant them exactly what they wished for. Its job was not to grant what the heart desired, it was to guide those in need as they found their own happy endings. [break] [break]
The evening star had wishes of its own, it wanted to experience what those below it did. It wanted someone to gaze up at it, not wishing for anything, because all they wanted was its light dancing on their face. In all its years, no one had bothered to wonder what the star felt. Of course, it had to understand, no one thought of a star as a sentient being. Indeed, it wasn't a human as much as it wanted to experience that life. Then one night, as the star made its daily trip over the bayou, it noticed the stare. A stare, it would later on learn, of love. The small firefly was an odd little fellow, he was different and sweet. The star wondered every night as it visited that small lighting bug if that warm feeling it felt was what love really felt like. He would never request the star grant him anything at all. Evangeline, as it had been named by him, felt for the first time in its existence. It was happiness and love, the feelings most wished for by those on the Earth. [break] [break]
The events that proceeded Tiana's wish flew by so quickly that Evangeline hardly understood it. One minute, Ray had was merrily helping Tiana and Naveen and the next he was gone. And again, for the second time, the star experienced a new feeling; grief. The one being that made light up the star's own sky was gone. It wished and wished for it to be what they called a bad dream, but the reality was set. Besides, who would a star wish upon? On the night when Ray's friends sent him off for the last time, Evangeline's own light was dimmed. Then, as if the universe decided to take pity on it, that warmth lost with Ray was replaced and it lit up the sky. He was right next to Evangeline now, if she could reach out she would be able to grasp on to him. There he would spend the rest of their existence, both of them together at last. [break] [break]
I wish... Those were the last words the star heard as the curse hit and the first two words that escaped from Evangeline's lips before she opened her eyes and found herself in a new realm. The young, blonde girl not once wondered where she came from, she was simply glad to be. She soon discovered her love of the stars. At the beginning, she would find herself gazing up at the starry night, then without thinking, a bright smile would light up her face. She embraces everything about her new life, she has a feeling that whatever or whoever she was in the past did not have the freedom that she does now. If Wonderland could give her this feeling, the feeling of beinglive and being able to do anything her heart desires, then it can't be such a bad place. In fact, she loves this land very much, because here, Evangeline's possibilities are endless.
