The door was pointless. What good was a door that led nowhere? She reached up to touch it, but her hand instantly recoiled, touching her lips carefully. It was dangerous. “Mm, mm, mm. Don’t touch, Jetta.” She reminded herself as she turned away from the looming architecture.
Jetta Moray cocked her head slightly to the left, not just in inquisition, but because of her unique condition: Jetta was legally blind in her left eye, making it rather difficult to see clearly when she didn’t focus. She had left home without her other half — something she rarely did for as Jetta’s left eye lacked the proper corneal development, as did Flotsam’s. It made them the perfect match, not only in physicality but also in mentality. Being without Flot was an empty feeling, something she couldn’t quite put her fingertip on, but an empty feeling nonetheless. It was as if a part of her was missing; the part that belonged to her sibling. Their mother took care of them in ever way, but Jetta knew that they had once been alone.
The sun was already starting to set and Jetta wrapped her arms around her body as she walked away from the door that vexed her. She was going to go home to Momma and make her make her hot chocolate. If she was lucky, her mother would put some of her special powder in the mix to make Jetta feel warm and tingly inside. The dark-haired girl smirked at the thought.
As the sun set and the sky darkened, seeing became more difficult with one eye. Jetta was stopped in her tracks when the clink of metal broke through her own mental thoughts. Trap. The situation seemed to register in her mind even before she knew what was happening. Her eyes cast down immediately, the pain shot up her leg as she yelled out. Her body crumpled as she grabbed onto the metal claws that were causing the discomfort. She needed to escape.

SOME ARE CRUEL, SOME ARE EVIL, and some are just insane. School had dragged on. Something that Doris found herself not enjoying. But once that bell rang signaling the day was coming to a close, she was over joyed. Quickly she bound for the playground, finding the dead bird that she had been operating on earlier. She smiled slowly putting it into a box she had found in the classroom. “It’s okay Mr. Bird, we will get you all patched up as soon as we get home. That’s where all the…big…sharp…toys are.” she said in a rushed tone. Her eyes snapped around her, looking for anyone and when no one was in sight she took off running. It wasn’t long before she was off the grounds and slowed her pace. She began humming to herself, and with the tone of the humming she started skipping. With each skip the bird would hit the roof of the box, letting out a soft sound. With each sound, Doris’s face grew wider and wider with fascination.
“Better be careful Mr. Bird, you may make your brain jump around. Wouldn’t want that.” she said to the box as she entered the woods. She always went home this way, even if her father told her not to. It was dangerous he had told her countless times. But did she listen? No. Would she ever listen? No. The sounds of the birds chirping around her caught her attention. She stopped, eyes moving around gazing up at the trees that surrounded her. A small grin formed on her face before she looked down at her box. “It’s okay Mr. Bird; we will have you flying soon. Promise.” she said before continuing her walk. It was already growing dark, the trees no help with source of light. But Doris had this place memorized and if she got lost, she would just ask Mr. Bird. Mr. Bird would surely know where to go.
The sound of yelling in the distance caught her attention, head snapping to the side, black pig tails swishing back and forth. It didn’t frighten her. Quickly she skipped towards the sound, as if the pain in the person’s scream had just been nothing more than to grab her attention. When she reached the person, she smiled, noticing the metal claw that had snapped itself on the person’s leg. She held the box to her chest, fearful that the woman was kidding and was trying to steal her patient. A doctor always protected their patient. Her daddy had told her that. “You okay?” she asked sweetly, her head tilting to the side, dark eyes looking the person over before she stopped at the metal that had trapped the woman’s foot.
Maybe this woman needed a doctor?

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] YOU'RE MY BLOOD AND MY BONES [attr="class","next"]Jetta’s head immediately turned left, her right eye dominating her sight as she stared down the little thing that had come into her view. “Hello.” She said, cooly. As the girl tilted her head, Jetta did the same, only in the opposite direction. For but a moment in time, the pair stood there, each in their respective poses before Jet remembered that she was in pain. She groaned, lying back on the ground as she tried not to think about the fact that the jaws of the trap were practically ripping through her leg. She wasn’t sure if they had reached the bone, nor was she sure just how deep the incision went. Mother was going to have a hell of a time trying to fix her up.
Then, of course, she would get a talking to about the importance of keeping her twin with her. There is no right without the left. There is no Jetta without her Flotsam.
Jetta tried to forget about the pain, she tried her hardest to think of other things. Oceans and darkness and lightening bolts. Her mind was sanctioned before she lifted herself onto her elbows and looked at the little girl that was still standing there. She had made no motion to help her yet, something that she was thankful for. Jetta had a hard time trusting other people. In a world where it was just her, momma and Flotsam, it was hard to let other people in….Even this seemingly harmless little…thing. She realized that the girl had asked if she was alright and she shook her head. “We’re not alright, child.” Jetta realized she was referencing her other half who was missing from the equation. Immediately she back tracked and shook her head. “There is something on my leg.” She pointed downwards as if it were obvious.
Children. Children were not Jetta’s speciality. She had never been sure how to approach them when they didn’t want something. Perhaps she would just have to figure out what it was that the small little creature wanted in exchange for freeing her. “What’s in your box?” She asked, eying the very small container that the girl was holding close to her. It seemed important and Jetta always had an eye for noticing the important. It was what made her so good at her job.

Doris watched as the older woman looked at her with her own tilted head, the two of them just staring each other down. That was until pain registered in the older woman’s features and she fell backwards with a groan, the little girl grew closer, tucking a pigtail behind her ear with her free hand, the other holding the box protectively in her hand. She surveyed the woman with curious dark eyes, watching the pain of her features to the blood seeping from the wound on her leg. Others would turn away and shy away from the blood, but not Doris. She was intrigued, it didn’t bother her. the smell of metallic and dirt filled the air.
‘We’re not alright, child. There is something on my leg.’
She frowned deeply when the woman talked as if there were two of them there, but as Doris took a quick look around there was no one else but those two. She grew closer, “Yup. Looks that way. It looks pretty bad.” she hummed in a slight sing-song voice. She grew closer “Gotcha pretty good.” she added in the same tone as she slowly sunk down to the ground, her skirt touching the blood, it soaked through the material and it didn’t bother her.
‘What’s in your box?’
Doris eyes widened and she pulled the box closer to her body “My patient. He was hurt at school and I brought him home…you can’t have him!” she cried. She was getting protective over the box that held a dead bird within it. “His name is Mr. Bird and he is very sick.” she added.

There was something about her. Something that very much reminded her of her own self. Perhaps that was what disturbed her so — there was too much of the Moray twins in this young girl. She had already seen too much for her own good. “I don’t want him.” She said, her tone returning to a sort of monotonous lull. What would she do with a dead bird? A live bird…that would be fun, but dead meant nothing. It was just still and boring.
“Mr. Bird is…” She paused, unsure if she should say the word. No, it was better to play games with the little girl. Jetta loved games. “My momma can fix that.” The brunette blurted without thinking. It was her go-to reaction. Her mother could fix anything with her remedies, even a sick…or presumably dead bird. There was nothing that momma could not do, Jetta knew that she would be able to bring the sick and twisted girl's pet back to life. “She can help you fix your Mr. Bird.”
There was a catch, as there naturally always was, but this one had nothing to do with Momma’s potion. This was purely for her own benefit. The girl was crouching near her leg. “Will you help me?” She cocked her head again, this time wondering what it was that made the girl tick. What was inside of her? She couldn't understand it. Jetta considered herself expert at reading others, but this small child was an enigma. There was something so wrong with her and yet…she enjoyed her company. “Help me get out and I will take you to momma. We can fix Mr. Bird.”

some are cruel, some are evil. ‘It is strange that it let you catch it.’The girl tilted her head slightly to the side before moving forward “Oh it was badly hurt, it didn’t let me catch it…I picked it up.” she said excitedly her smile fully on her face, reaching her eyes. She slowly opened the box, the dead bird appearing within the sight of the other woman, the smell of the dead slowly seeping out “See!” she said excitedly “I just need to get home, he’s badly hurt…he needs to be fixed.” she added in the same tone. It was then that the woman said that she didn’t want him and she quickly shut the box, “Good, cause you can’t have him.” she said rather snooty. But then the woman’s words reached her ears, and she smiled brightly, bouncing up and down as the woman told her that her own mother could fix Mr. Bird. But then her attention disappeared from excitement to sadness. “But…he’s my patient…” she trailed off sadness overcoming her features as quickly as the excitement came and went. She had a puppy dog look upon her face, eyes filling with tears before they quickly disappeared, an idea coming to mind. Her eyes snapped up to the hurt woman before she spoke “Do you think your momma will let me help? I want to be supportive of my patient.” she said rather quickly, her eyes filling with hope as she looked at the older woman with pleading child eyes. ‘Will you help me? Help me get out and I will take you to momma. We can fix Mr. Bird.’Excitement once again filled her and she quickly nodded “Okay, as long as I can help with the fixin'.” she said quickly as she got down to the ground, slowly letting the box out of her grasp and playing around with the metal piece that was around the woman’s flesh. She slowly took out her bobby pin and wiggled it within the crack, playing around with it and soon it was open. She smiled brightly “There we go…all better! Sorry…I don’t have any lollipops though.” she said finishing with a small pout. TEMPLATE BY MINNIE OF GANGNAM STYLE |
