Pearl was, once upon a time, a happy little flapjack octopus of the Great Barrier Reef. That was, before the day a sickness swept through Pearl's family and Pearl and her father, Ted, were the only ones who survived. Since it happened at such a young age for Pearl, she barely remembers it, and living without a mother is all Pearl has ever known. Besides that, Pearl's life was, well, normal.

She spent her school time with her mischievous but close friends, Tad and Sheldon, and somewhat awkwardly followed their not-so-great example; they were like brothers to the only child octopus: annoying at times, but always there for her. As well, the spoiled young octopus managed to get anything she wanted from her dumb (but still caring) dad. Still, she welcomed new friends into her little group and was adorably sweet, despite the fact that she conformed to any crowd she happened to find herself apart of. If it weren't for Tad and Sheldon, she would probably be a rule-following, tattletale brat, though not many adults can say that a troublemaker like Pearl is any better.

On one of the school field trips that Pearl attended with her friends, she adventurously swam over open water with her buddies, and even dared them to go further to reach a boat full of humans. She barely thought of the consequences of going against her father's rules, or worse, the consequences of being caught by a dreaded human. Though, she defended her new friend Nemo from the scolding of his father because he did the same thing: disobeying his father. This was yet another display of her friendliness toward others.. even if her two companions were not always the same. She often had to excuse their rude behavior, though she loved them nonetheless.

Despite her daring character just a few moments before she swam into the open ocean, she was quick to flee once a diver from the boat she was previously trying to reach intruded the sea that she called home; proof that her bark is worse than her bite, along with proof that she tends to boast things she won't end up doing. As well, when she swam over the open water, she "inked" as soon as the slightest thing scared her (it ended up being her friend trying to prank her), which is simply more evidence that she is not as "courageous" as she claims she is.

Pearl woke up in Wonderland with no recollection of her history, and no family, either. All she knew were two things. One, her new name: Pearl Cordelia Kersey. And two, the fact that she was all alone, in a world she had never before experienced, with no family beside her. She still attempts things and claims that she can do things that in honest reality she cannot do. She still changes some of her traits to match a group she considers herself apart of. But in the end, she is still as sweet as she was before, and she puts herself before anyone else.

Pearl is a neutral because, as a homeless teenager with no memories, herself is her first priority. While she isn't pro-villainy, she is not selfless enough nor does she have enough strength to go against them. Once she gets herself together, she doesn't plan on choosing a side then either. As previously stated, she puts herself first, and in the end, she doesn't care for fights or politics. She is kind to whoever she believes she should be kind to, be them hero, villain, or sidekick. She isn't one to label people, at least not until they wrong her. In the end, though, she is desperate to belong somewhere, now that she is without her two closest friends and her family.
