[attr="class","LD1textarea"] Shere Khan was a mysterious and powerful magical being who had practically existed since the dawn of time in the enchanted world. He could appear as a human or as a tiger. Her served as a guardian of a vast jungle that existed in the enchanted world. While most of the creatures who dwelt there saw him as a protector and a friend, they also knew he was one to be feared and not be crossed. Given his vicious tiger form, he could prove to be predator as well as protector when the need arose. However, when it came to the wild creatures, this side of him was only seen on rare occasions. For the most part, the jungle was a peaceful place where the natural law of things played out. This all changed when humans made their way into the jungle.[break[break]
Shere Khan was uneasy about humans being in the forest, but he thought he would be fair and work out a treaty with them. If the human respect the law of the jungle, he would let them enjoy the gifts the jungle had provided the creatures who lived there. However, if they broke the law, there would be severe consequences. For the most part, the humans respected the law, but a small group of them became greedy, seeking to slaughter animals that had pelts which could draw a high price. Shere's wrath was great. He and those loyal to him killed the greedy without mercy and drove the remainder out of the jungle. From that day on, Shere forbade any human to enter the jungle. Any who was discovered there was killed... no exceptions. [break][break]
One ever so often, various magical beings met in a chosen place to discuss various matters. Shere was part of this council, and left the jungle to meet with the others. The meeting lasted a few years, as many meetings between magical beings did, and upon Shere's return it was discovered that some of the wolves in the kingdom had raised a young orphan named Mowgli. By his own law, he declared the boy be executed. However, he discovered that the boy was beloved by the creatures and had been treated as one of them. The creatures refused to carry out his decree. Not wanting a rebellion, Shere met with the boy and came to a compromise. Mowgli would have to live among other humans, but was permitted to visit his friends in the jungle once a year... pending he came alone and unarmed. This was agreed upon by all and the boy left. Things then went fairly back to normal in the jungle after that, with Shere glad that there wouldn't be another meeting of magical beings for quite some time. [break][break]
When the Curse happened, Shere Khan had lost his magical powers. He became Shandor Kingsly a wealthy landowner and recluse who lived in the woods. He only ventured out into the village when he needed to go. The rest of the time he lived with various creatures that were more like equal companions than pets. His personality is terribly serious, and, should one be able to converse with him, they would find him to be a bit on the snobbish side. Whenever drama might break out in the village or anywhere else near his home in the woods, he usually tries to avoid it at all cost. He's far from wicked, but not exactly the one you would want to walk to if you needed an ally... well unless you had four legs and fur or feathers, a beak, and a pair of talons.
