tag: Hiro Lee Hamada At what point was it best to let this thing go? When was Lilo going to just forget about this camera? As she peered around the corner into a dark alley she began to think she was going out on a limb that was much too long for something so small. But what if this thing had all she needed? What if it held all the answers to her questions? She looked down at the green and white camera she held with her thin fingers.
Some said he's the best engineer in all of Wonderland. What if he could fix it and get it working again? What if he could replace the film? Lilo's heart began to flutter at the idea of being able to use this camera for something more than just a weight to hold down her class work. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear before taking a big step. Okay, it wasn't really a big step physically but she had mustered enough courage to take that step into the dark alley and that was enough for celebration in her book.
Don't go too far without him knowing. Let him know you're there.
Lilo gripped the strap to her bag as she cleared her throat. "Uh, is there a.." She gulped as she frantically let go of the strap to open her right hand to reveal letters on her palm. She squinted at the letters, "Hiro Han- no, that's an m, I think.." her voice lowered into almost a whisper as she tilted her hand up towards the light before closing it with frustration. "Hiro? Is there someone named Hiro here?"

The sound of the rusted AC broke through the silence of the small bunker, as the thick wings spun rapidly behind the metal shield. Sitting at his table, Hiro held a tiny screwdriver as well as a mysterious device, as he attempted to tighten a loose bolt along the the framing. The problem was that no screw fit, not one Hiro could buy. Not one Hiro could find. This was screw #71 of screws he'd been trying to fit in the machine. Gripping the box, Hiro turned the screw one last time, except it didn't move. Because it didn't work. Damn it! Hiro? Is there someone named Hiro here?. Hiro sighed heavily, trying his best not to slam the machine down, and pushed himself off his chair to heed to the call. Wiping his grease stained hands on a cloth, Hiro grabbed his black jacket off the hook, slid it on, and stepped out of the door, instead the gray, stormy skies, and a young woman. "What do you need?" He asked gruffly, the door shutting behind him, leaving him the sullen alley with the brunette.

tag: Hiro Lee Hamada Lilo was frustrated with the lack of good lighting in the alley. She placed her hand on her bag's strap again as she raised the camera to waist level in her left. "You better be worth all of this." She huffed at the object in her hand moments before the door at the end of the alley opened. Lilo jumped at the sudden movement in the dark.
What do you need?
Lilo paused for a moment to stare at the young man- she wasn't expecting a young and attractive man to be the best engineer in Wonderland. "Oh definitely worth it." She mumbled under her breath, she was definitely pleasantly surprised by this. When she finally noticed she had been staring at this man she looked down at her camera before thrusting it out into the air in front her. Blinking a few times and taking a few steps forward, she cleared her throat.
"I'm Lilo. Would you take a look at my camera for me?" She took another step forward to place the camera into a better lit portion of the alley. "It won't take any pictures."

Hiro's eyes narrowed as he watched the girl mumble before holding up her camera. It was probably her first time interfering with the..dirtier side of Wonderland, and probably her last. While Hiro didn't like dealing with beginners, he'd make an exception. She was young, and it'd probably be her last time dealing with him anyway. Hiro tried to ignore the fact she was probably around his own age, yet he spoke like he lived for years beyond her age. Taking the camera, Hiro unhooked his pocket knife, and popped open the back of the camera with ease and began inspecting the machinery. It looked like everything was in order. But it wasn't. It was frozen. Nothing clicked, something moved, just frozen. It was practically a metal stone. Hiro frowned, biting his cheek in thought before tucking the camera under his arm and looking back at her. "When was the last time you used this?" The answer should be never by the way things looked. But Hiro could tell there were pictures taken, the memory was somewhat filled. But it just wouldn't show. Nothing would show. It was as if something was blocking the machine entirely. Hiro momentarily wondered if she was a joke, or some sort of set up. He knew he had competition that would love to knock him out of the business, and this could very easily be one of those situations. But Lilo here didn't look like the normal set up. So Hiro threw the theory out.

tag: Hiro Lee Hamada Lilo was careful not to crowd him even though she was extremely curious as to what he was doing to her dear camera. She stood back from him as she ran the tips of her nails against the pad of her thumb. The young man didn't do a whole lot, or what seemed like much to her, before he looked back up at her.
"The last time I used it?" Lilo turned her head slightly, "I haven't used it yet- I was going to but it wouldn't work." She moved her left hand to her bag's strap and placed it above her right hand. "Okay well here's the story." Her nose crinkled before she continued on, she was quite sick of having to tell people about her camera situation.
"The first day I woke up here in Wonderland I woke up with this camera and I've been spending too many hours trying to figure out what it is and what it does. I found out how to get the pictures developed but I don't have any of the chemicals. I can't find any film to replace the current film with and now the stinking thing won't even work so either there's something wrong with it or there's something wrong with me!"
After her long winded spiel, Lilo inhaled loudly and exhaled just as loud. It had been months since she arrived in Wonderland and this camera was the only link she had.
She waited a few seconds before speaking again, "It's important to me.. Past me."

Dropping onto the small stairway that led down to his door, Hiro took hold of the camera, questioning eyes now scanned the object as he listened to Lilo recount her tale. When I woke up in Wonderland. That's what clicked for Hiro. Something wrong was, Hiro knew that for a long time, but now everyone was coming to their senses. It started when Hiro's parents never returned. In fact, they never existed anymore. Hiro asked around, but no one answered. Asking turned into demanding, demanding turned into pleas, pleas turned into begging. No one answered. The only thing he learned was that his parents left Wonderland. That's it. Then it clicked for Hiro. What happened when you leave Wonderland? So Hiro began to investigate, that's how he got into the business, he needed the money, he needed the information. But you see the WPA didn't want you to know that, the Queen didn't want you to know anything. Here's the truth: there's no leaving Wonderland. And if someone made it out, you disappeared. And you never came back. Hiro knew this since he was young, but no one else did. Until now. Hiro opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Instead he nodded. "I understand. I will try my best." How did you unfreeze something that didn't belong here? Something thrown through a loop that it didn't fit. Hiro looked at the parts again, his brown eyes squinting as he inspected the pieces. Maybe it was the pieces, maybe they didn't fit. If you had the right pieces, you had the right machine. Lilo needed to find the original pieces then it would work. But for now, it was just frozen. Along with everything in it. "I advise you not to say that out loud." The genius said lowly, his gaze never moving from the machine as his pocket knife began moving the locks and screws. "It is not safe."

tag: Hiro Lee Hamada Lilo had very little concern over other people's past lives. It bothered her that no one knew anything and after a few days of looking around, she had given up on helping anyone. Nothing sounded familiar to her but this stupid object she woke up with. Since the day she came to the conclusion that the camera held information, Lilo had become obsessed with it. Now here she was with some young engineer, spieling her story one last time in hopes that he could help even a smidge.
She half expected him to sound irritated with her like everyone else did when she spoke to them. Everyone else treated her as if they wanted her gone immediately. Perhaps Hiro didn't sound so bothered because this was his job. Whatever it was, Lilo felt at ease with her current situation. She had every ounce of hope in Hiro even if he wasn't sure. "Thank you so much.. for even trying." Lilo gave him a sincere smile as he went back to looking over the camera.
Lilo hopped this camera would work and that she could also get the pictures in it developed. In a perfect world the pictures would show her past life: a loving sister, a blue alien dog, and a kind family friend. This obviously wasn't a perfect world and Lilo wasn't sure if the pictures would even come through by the time she found all she needed to develop them. One step at a time she would say to her self.
I advise you not the say that out loud. It is not safe. The young man said without even looking up from the camera. Lilo cocked her head back with a frown. It isn't safe? She took a long scan of the alley before looking back at Hiro. "What do you mean it isn't safe?" Lilo said in a whisper. Everyone in the village spoke about finding out their past lives and who they really were. Lilo didn't understand why it wasn't safe for her to talk about it too.

"It's not safe because there are those who don't want you to know, Lilo." He responded meekly, his eyebrows furrowing as he attempted take out the parts of the machine. Nothing. Holding down the camera, Hiro once again tried to take out a screw from the camera. Again, nothing. Only the dull sound of metal. Hiro turned the camera around so Lilo could see the metal wiring. "Your camera has all the parts. It's fresh, new, it should work great. Here's the problem, it's not the camera's own parts. It's as if someone just shoved a different brand in there. It's a mechanical rule that whatever frame you're working on, you use the same pieces with it. The only way it'll work is if you get the original parts back. That's the hard part. I don't know how to get the wrong parts back, but you might." The genius explained to the brunette, his eyes surveying the machine in curiosity. Hiro didn't experience many challenges in his choice of work. This was his first. Getting off the ground, Hiro tucked his pocket knife back into his pocket and stepped towards Lilo. "Do you remember the source of your camera? Where it came from?"

tag: Hiro Lee Hamada Lilo was taken back by the response he gave her. There were people that didn't want them to figure out where they came from? What was so wrong with figuring out their past?
"Who doesn't want us to know?" She asked softly, tightening her grip on her bag before taking one more look around the dark alley. Everyone in the village talked nonstop about finding out their past and some of them were very persistent. As for Lilo, she just wanted to find where she belonged. She wanted to stop feeling like such an outcast, a weirdo.
Hiro explained her camera was missing the original pieces and the pieces that were in it were frozen. Lilo wasn't sure how she even arrived here with the camera let alone what was going on inside of it.
"Original pieces?" She looked down at the camera in his hands. "I barely even know what this thing is!" Lilo flung her left hand in the air as she let out a frustrated noise.
She stood there shaking her head as he asked if she remembered where it came from. "I don't know anything, Hiro." Her voice filled with dismay. "I'm sorry.."

Hiro grew a slightly sympathetic expression as the girl grew frustrated, his dark eyes softening a bit. Hiro really did wish he could help her. He knew how frustrating it could be not getting answers. "I'm sorry I can't help you, Lilo." The boy apologized, pieces of his curly black hair falling over his eyes. "I will continue to help you, if you like. I do not leave machines broken." He added, with a small nod. Every machine was made, so it could be fixed. It was a saying Hiro lived by. He had made that quote when things were simpler, when he had his brother, and his parents were still somewhat in his life. When things weren't so dark. "The people who put us here don't want us to know." It took Hiro a while to come to an answer. Who put them here? It took time for the genius to figure that out, but then it came to him. Everyone around town told stories of strange dreams, things they understood but don't know how. Almost everyone. The people who didn't talk about what or who they remembered were the higher ups. The Royals. "You do not want to be questioned, Lilo. Or worse, killed. Just remember that there are things they don't want us to know."

tag: Hiro Lee Hamada Lilo smiled lightly at the cute boy in front of her. The fact that he took time out of his day to even talk to her, let alone try to help, meant a lot to her. Although he was unable to fix the camera, he pointed her into a new direction. It was a dead end for her, she was sure of it. It was better to know than to spend her days wandering, or worse, trying to open the camera herself and breaking it.
"If there's nothing else you can do, then it's okay." Lilo spoke softly, coming to terms with the fact that the item was never going to be fixed. Her eyes searched the ground before she looked back up with his with an optimistic look upon her face. "I know you can't fix it but is there anyway you can.. Replicate it?" She asked, she knew what it was and was already infatuated with the idea of taking pictures of this new world.
She was convinced he knew more than she did before she had even met him so when he began to speak about an ominous group wanting to keep things secret, Lilo listened to his every word. Not many people were talking about why they were in Wonderland but simply questioned who they were and Lilo was no exception.
No one knew how they got there either, or better yet who put them here. It made sense to her that someone did put them here and that they were hiding something. Everyone in Wonderland was connected somehow but this was all too much for Lilo.
You do not want to be questioned, Lilo. Or worse, killed. Lilo's brows curled up and she swallowed hard. "S-so should I.. Give up on the camera?" She questioned, her words were uneven due to the increase of adrenaline rushing through her. If the camera was going to cause any red flags for anyone higher up than should she abandon the only object she had that linked her to her home?

Hiro's eyes raised in question when she asked about replacing the parts. If he were to replace the camera, he'd have to leave the memory. Unless there was a place she could look at it. But who else had a camera with the same capabilities. "It is possible, but is there anyone else with a high tech camera who could open the pictures in the memory card?" He questioned, rubbing his hands together to generate warmth, his dark eyes searching her face for any clues. Hiro was sure he had enough parts to make a camera-oh wait, Hiro was already making one. Ever since Hiro had seen the red headed girl with brown eyes-Hiro didn't know why he remembered that detail, but anyway-ever since he saw her camera Hiro had begun designing his own. Maybe he could help her. "I'm creating a camera design myself. I don't know if it'll work, but maybe you can put your memory card in, and begin using my product. Perhaps you'll get the answer you are looking for."

tag: Hiro Lee Hamada Lilo looked at Hiro quizzically, "Well I know someone that could develope them.."She said softly but she knew that wasn't what he was saying. She searched the wall of the building with her eyes, "I heard some kid saying another girl had a camera.. I don't know who and I don't know what kind of camera it is but I could find out." Lilo was confident she could find the other person but knowing her luck it wasn't going to work. "It's worth a try, isn't it?" Her eyes darted back to the attractive young man.
When Hiro said he was creating a camera design Lilo's eyes lit up. How cool was it that he could make something like her object from practically scratch? Her jaw dropped when he offered it to let her use it. "Are you serious?" She blurted out with excitement, "That would be amazing!" she exclaimed even louder. Lilo had definitely come to the right place.

Hiro gave a weak grimace, as he nodded his head. "I'm glad this excites you. Luckily I've already started so it should be finished soon." Hiro opened his mouth to speak, then closed it. It would take money to finish it, but he would not take it from Lilo. Hiro wasn't an awful person. Or at least, he tried not to be. He'll get the money somewhere else, even if it means dealing with murky rich men. "Is there somewhere I can reach you? I'm afraid I'm hard to find in public." He questioned, with the small raise of his eyebrows. Lilo was young, she was his age, so he imagined she had friends. He hoped she'd keep this quiet. He didn't want a bunch of teenagers coming to him, asking him for favors. They'd have him thrown in jail. Hiro frowned to himself, wondering what his life would of been if his parents were still in Wonderland, if Tadashi was still here. If he would of went to high school with Lilo, if he would of been friends with her even. It wouldn't be a bad life. But sadly it was not his.

tag: Hiro Lee Hamada This was honestly the best newS Lilo had heard since she arrived to Wonderland. She still had no one familiar to her, it really was just her and this dumb camera. The dance studio was her baby but it didn't fill her with as much hope and happiness as photography and whatever might be in her camera. Sure it was disappointing that she was unable to use the one thing she had from her past but at least someone was trying to help her. Until she could find the original pieces, this new camera Hiro was making could be a wonderful change of pace for her.
"That's great!" She exclaimed, "Is there anything I can do for you in return?" Lilo didn't have much money, what she did have was used to keep her dance studio and buy berries. She knew well that she was asking for help and that he should be payed for him troubles, all he would have to say is what he wanted in return and Lilo would gladly bend over backwards to accommodate him. It was the least she could do. Lilo pulled her hair behind her ear and nodded at him. "My house. It's between the woods and the village. It's big and yellow, you can't miss it. I also have a dance studio in the village. If you don't want to be seen, no one is ever in the studio on Wednesdays. I'm still unsure why but it might be to your advantage if you want to keep a low profile." Lilo said reassuringly. After a few deep breathes to calm herself, Lilo gave him a smile. "Thank you, Hiro."
