Upon first Jewel is one of those girls that invoke a certain annoyance in most people. With blonde hair curled perfectly so, and never a thread of her clothes being out of place--Jewel looks like one of the higher, pretentious sorts. But those who know her would find that she's a warm person who may be a bit shy at first. Like many of the other kids, she currently resides in an orphanage where she tries to help Perry out as much as she can, and often tries to keep some of the peace within the house. Usually though, Jewel gets frustrated nearly to the point of tears and often storms up to her room and locks herself in. The one thing she is good at is nursing the boo-boos of the younger kids, whether they be emotional boo-boos, or the physical kind. Jewel may not have much in the way of brains, but she's got a lot in the way of heart.

History
[break]Jewel's short life was a happy one. With fourteen other brothers and sisters, a mom and dad and humans that loved them--what more could she have possibly asked for? Her days were spent playing with her siblings, watching Thunderbolt and eating enough kibble that she never had to go to bed hungry.

But one awful day when her parents and humans went out for a walk, someone broke in and stole all of the puppies. At first, Jewel thought it was maybe some sort of game, but when they were handled quite so roughly, and grabbed by the scruff of their necks--she was suddenly aware of the fact that this was no longer a game. She huddled with her siblings as they tried to think of their way out of this.

Imagine her surprise when she found that her and her fourteen siblings were not the only puppies that had been taken. Information went around, and panic struck the new arrivals. They were wanted for their spots; that awful woman with the awful voice was going to pull their skin and make a coat out of them. Just when Jewel felt like all was lost, the cavalry arrived in the form of Pongo and Perdy. Along with her littermates and the rest of the swarm of puppies, they worked together to escape the awful place, and not a moment too soon either.

It was a long journey back home against the snow and the cold; and it was made even worse by the dogs being pursued by Horace and Jasper. Cruella would not stop any time soon, and the tiny puppies were urged on to safety. If they could just get back home, if they could just get to Anita and Roger, then they would be safe forever more. And as all good stories do--the puppies made it home safely into the warm arms of their humans. Their soot was washed off, they were fed and watered and protected through the rest of the night by the family that had saved them. It was decided almost immediately that the extra puppies that were saved would now become an official part of the family; and soon they moved to the countryside with big green grassy yards to stretch their paws in.

Alas, the ending was happy for just a little while. And then one morning, in the blink of an eye--everything was different. Jewel was still Jewel, but now she was Jewel Antoinette Winston. It had a nice little ring to it, but other than that there was nothing. No memories, just emptiness--in her head and in her heart. The pain was made somewhat easier by the orphanage she was brought to, along with fourteen other children, some closer to her in age than the others. Trying her best to ease Perry's headache, Jewel finds herself looking out for the other kids with a strange sort of fondness for all of them, even if some of them are a bit growley.
