Jock was just like any average Scottish terrier. He liked to spend his days trotting around the yard, patrolling the perimeter and ensuring its safety from birds and squirrels. He fancied himself a fine guard dog, in fact! Nothing, absolutely nothing, would intrude while he was around. His obviously menacing bark would make sure of it. Jock, along with his best friend, Trusty, made a great team. However, there was a great secret that Jock kept from Trusty. Not a single soul in the world, except Jock himself, knew of the giant pile of bones buried in the garden. From the gate, they were four steps forward, and a leap to the left. There lay his beautiful stash of hidden treasures, left there for Jock, and Jock alone, to enjoy! Oh, yes, those bones were his pride and joy, and no other dog would ever know about them. He would be absolutely sure of that.[break][break]
As time moved forward, and Jock and Trusty grew older together, the inevitable time came. The time when new pups joined the neighborhood and they were no longer the handsome dogs still in their prime. Jock welcomed it, personally. It was a way for him to be able to pass on his knowledge of all things to those up and coming in the world. It was a grand thing, indeed. In fact, he and Trusty went through several generations of puppies, each a little more rambunctious than the last.[break][break]
That is, until a certain young Lady arrived in the neighborhood.[break][break]
She was a gorgeous thing, to be sure (though far too young for Jock to attempt to woo; he was past his hey-day). Her long, golden coat, the mark of any cocker spaniel, gleamed in the sun. She was sweet and demure, but always happy to see her old friends, Jock and Trusty. Jock looked at Lady as if she were his daughter, and he acted as such. He was especially willing to teach her the ways of the world, both within the fences and out (and outside was a horrible place, to be sure). Trusty, he was sure, felt the same way about the little lass. Even she, though, would never know where he kept his bones. That secret would die with him![break][break]
In the way that the world works, it was only a matter of time before a young male dog came by and caught Lady’s interest. Jock didn’t approve of this newcomer in the slightest. He was dirty, his coat was scruffy, and he had arrived directly off the streets from who knows what side of town! It was simply awful that he was flirting with the young Lady! And he was so obvious about it. Jock, angered, did everything he could to chase him off.[break][break]
Naturally, Jock was right about the Tramp. Poor little Lady had her heart broken. The Tramp had led her on an overnight romp, only to let her be captured and taken to the pound. There, the terrier was horrified to hear, that Lady was only one of many conquests, and he was sure to find another. Little did Jock know, Lady truly had struck a chord in the stranger’s heart.[break][break]
In fact, the Tramp had saved Junior, Lady’s human’s newborn child, from a large, menacing rat that Lady couldn’t rid from the garden (due to the horrible chain left ‘round her neck). However, a mixup with Aunt Sarah resulted in the Tramp getting carted off to the pound and dear Lady being locked in the basement. Upon Jim Dear’s arrival, thus ensuring Lady’s safety, Jock and Trusty darted after the cart headed to the pound to save the Tramp from his inevitable end. Thankfully, they saved him (with a small sacrifice from Trusty), and Lady and her savior went on to bring to the world four beautiful pups. Jock and Trusty would be able yet again to pass on the ways of the world to a new generation (which Trusty wasted no time in doing).[break][break]
One morning, he woke up and the world was not as he had remembered it. Where was his lush, maintained garden? Where were the well-kept houses of the neighborhood? Not to mention, something about his body felt off, but he couldn’t place exactly what was wrong. Everything seemed different. He had absolutely no recollection of anything, really, just a hazy idea of who he himself was. Jacques Sauveterre, of course! Eventually he found his way to a palace, and noticed that the grounds could use some help maintaining their grandeur. So, that’s what he spends his days doing.[break][break]
Jacques maintains, unfortunately, some hoarding habits. He can be rather clever in hiding his treasures to make sure other don’t think he has a problem. He is also very protective of those that he is close to, particularly those younger than he. He has a soft spot for children, though many would never know if they didn’t get to know him. Jacques isn’t shy in spouting his opinion on things, particularly if someone else’s opinion differs from his own. And, while he does get along with children, the young adults tend to butt heads with him on many things. There are ways for things to be done, after all, and they don’t always do them correctly. However, he has been trying to improve on that outlook, but sometimes it doesn’t quite work out.
