LOVE WILL LIVE, LOVE WILL LAST, love goes on and on and on. Mary and Robin had been divorced for some time now, though not very long. The reason of their divorce was because she couldn’t handle the way he lived. The stealing from the rich, she was a member of the WPA, which meant that she couldn’t live with a criminal. Of course she had lied to Robin and told him it was because she no longer loved him. But that was all a lie. She did love him, still did. She loved him so much that she believed that she would do anything for him. And that was what scared her. Protecting a criminal was not the best way to be a part of her line of work, she needed to arrest and protect. And protecting Robin was like trying to get fired. So divorced was the only option. But because it was the only option it seemed to break them both to small little pieces.
Mary rarely got up in the morning like she used to. She used to love awaken next to her loving husband and now she woke up to a cold bed. But today, while at work she learned of some robberies that have been happening. And she could only think of one person. Robin. Mary remembered a time when she use to go home to Robin and tell him that stealing was not good, she use to cover up his tracks in the paperwork. But people in the office started to notice so that was when she divorced Robin and took her maiden name back. Or at least the maiden name that she remembered.
She frowned as she walked to the little cabin that Robin had in the woods. It had once been her home as well, until she moved out. She was of course really excited to see him, but she hid it well. She had an excuse; she had left some things behind. While getting those things she would talk to him about the stolen items and catch up with him. But during this time she would play it cool. She took a deep breath and knocked on the door. She of course still had a key to the place, but it was no longer her’s to use.

Laying somberly against the wall beside his bed, holding his head in his hands as head as he poorly attempted to shake the images of his last nightmare out of his head. If you would call it that. It seemed like beer wasn't even helping anymore, they just kept coming, for longer and longer. Robin wondered how he could last till he didn't wake up at all. Or if he'd stop sleeping all together.
Robin was brought out of his thoughts by a knock on the door. The archer's cabin was very deep within the woods, and he never had random visits, if anyone found it, it was planned. Lifting his head from his hands, Robin combed through his hair with a sigh, pushing himself out of the mess of sheets and walked towards the door. At the moment, he only had loose pants on, but whoever was visiting him at such an early hour in the morning would have to deal. Robin hoped he didn't look as bad as he felt.
Pulling the door open, Robin came face to face with Mary. She looked beautiful, she always did. Robin was sure he looked like a drunk. Not that he wasn't far from it. Leaning against the door way tiredly, Robin pushed the door wider, his dark eyes slowly meeting the deep blue ones he fell in love with once upon a time. He was still in love with them. "Do you need something, Mary?" He asked lowly, a throb aching in his chest as her name rolled off his tongue, even when he hadn't said it in so long. He could barely think about her and stay in one piece.

LOVE WILL LIVE, LOVE WILL LAST, love goes on and on and on. Waiting for him to answer the door was like drowning in water. She couldn’t take it. she was tempted to turn around, to run away and never return. He could keep the things she had left behind, he could keep her heart as well, and it had always belonged to him anyways. She knew that divorcing him was the best thing to do, but was it the best thing for her. she bit her bottom lip, so hard she feared that it would pierce flesh and draw blood. She took a step back, ready to leave and never return, someone else could figure out if Robin was the reason things were going missing. But before she knew it the door was open and she was face to face with her lover.
‘Do you need something, Mary?’
His words hit her heard, it was then she noticed something off about him. Was he drunk? She swallowed, unsure if she could speak. “I…I left some things here. I thought I would come and take them off your hands.” she said, her voice rather strong. She may sound strong, but on the inside she was slowly breaking to small little pieces. All she wanted to do was lean in and kiss his lips. She almost did. But when she realized what her body wanted to do, she stopped. “May I come in?” she questioned, her blue eyes meeting his dark ones.

The more Robin gazed at the blonde, the guiltier he felt about his recent rendezvous. He shouldn't feel guilty, right? Mary chose to leave him, she had to be happier with her life. While else would she put so much work into leaving what they had created. He had no reason to feel guilty, none at all, so why did he?
Robin nodded, pushing the door wider for Mary to come in before back to the small bathroom, that was connected to the living room, and turning on the sink. He didn't have the best plumbing, so it took a while for clean, cold water to come through. Right now it was pure lake water, and he learned from time not to use that water, no matter how tired or dirty he felt. As Robin waited for the water to come, his eyes followed Mary as she entered the house.
It seemed like so longer ago that she lived here with him, and she was happy. If she ever was happy. He remembered waking up on the weekends, to find Mary in his overly big jackets, running around the kitchen to make breakfast. He remembered the way light would come through the windows and make her hair a fair blonde, and her eyes a startling blue. He remembered trying his best to make her laugh when she came back from work stressed, and tired, but he did. He missed her laugh.
Robin turned back to the sink, his grip tightening on the sides as he took a deep breath, swallowing back the words he wanted to say, and instead cupping his hands under the water and running it over his face. Letting the water run down his face, Robin breathed out, the throbbing of his head falling to a light beat instead. It wasn't the best feeling, but he knew he wasn't going to get better. Washing his face one last time, Robin reached forward and turned off the sink, before walking into the kitchen, and looking through the various cabinets for something to eat.
"I didn't realize you left anything." He called out, his voice flat, with a tone of bitterness.

LOVE WILL LIVE, LOVE WILL LAST, love goes on and on and on. The door was pushed wider for her to enter and so she did, slipping past her drunk-looking ex-husband. Was he actually drunk? Or was it just her mind playing tricks? Was the guilt eating away at her and now she was seeing the after math of it? Her heart was telling her to kiss him, to apologize for divorcing him, but her rational mind told her it was over and done. She needed to move on, they both did. Being bent up over each other was not the best option, no matter what. It was safer to move on then to hang onto one another. He disappeared into the small bathroom, and slowly Mary sighed. Slowly she walked into the old bedroom, her fingers running across the softness of it. Once upon a time they had slept here, had gone to bed in an embrace and waken up with a soft giggle. She smiled at the memories before going to the closet; it was there that she had left a box, a box filled with some photographs. Only a few, she hadn’t looked inside in a while, but she wanted them. It also had some paperwork held within it.
She slipped out of the bedroom and made her way back to the kitchen, rather quietly at that. He was looking around. And then he called out, his tone bitter. It bit at her skin, sunk through and made her heart break. “Just a box. It was in the closet.” she breathed out sitting it down on the counter. “How are you Robin?” she asked, her concern rather genuine.

"How do you think Mary?" He remarked, shaking his head before he turned his attention back to the load of bread waiting in front of him. Grabbing a knife from the holder, Robin sliced his bread almost angrily. "Is that really why you're here?" The archer called out, as he finished cutting and slid the knife back in the holder, and grabbing his slices of bread. If Mary was really just here to get her stuff, she would of been here and gone. She needed something.
Robin hadn't forgotten that Mary worked for the WPA. In fact she was one of the best officers they had, he wouldn't be surprised if she was the next upcoming headmistress. That had been one of the reasons she left him in the first place. Because he was breaking every moral code she had swore to follow. Robin could sympathize, he did have his own moral codes to follow-he just wished they didn't have to end the way they did. Slow, and painfully. Days of awkward silence, turned into weeks of no talking, and that turned into months of fighting.
Everything just fell about. Turning to grab a cup from the counter, Robin filled it up with water, and sat down the kitchen island, soberly taking a bite of his bread. Bread absorbed the alcohol. And bread was all he had at the moment, he couldn't exactly go to the market to stock up.

LOVE WILL LIVE, LOVE WILL LAST, love goes on and on and on. ‘How do you think Mary?’
Mary crossed her arms over her chest, her head moving down to look at her feet. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a tight braid, one that flashed around her shoulder and trailed down just a tiny bit. She never had long hair, didn’t want anything getting in her way. She felt bad. Why shouldn’t she? She had broken his heart, broken her own for divorcing him. Why? Because she had to. She promised to follow a code for the WPA, and she would do that until the day she died. Be that sooner rather than later, she just hoped her death came from old age and nothing else. So far, nothing bad had happened in Wonderland enough to get her killed. Which she was thankful for. Mostly just robberies and things around those lines. Yet she felt like something was growing in the distance, that their lives would soon be turned upside down.
‘Is that really why you’re here?’
She quickly glanced up at the male before her; biting her bottom lip before she spoke “Yes…no.” she trailed off. “I want us to be friends. Just because we were once married and now we aren’t…that doesn’t mean we can’t be friends.” she said to her ex-husband. Sure she was sliding around her true intentions for being here, in this house, the house that they had lived together during their marriage, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t get to her true intentions later. She was worried about him.

Robin gritted his teeth, as he swallowed his food down thickly. Friends? Mary wanted them to be friends? Robin didn't even know how to be friends with the girl. It hurt to even look at her, and she wanted to be around him as a friend? "No, Mary. Because we were married, we can't be friends." Robin remarked sharply, tossing his food back onto his plate, and standing up. Robin doesn't mean to be so angry, he just...he can't. It hurts, it hurts like hell to think about Mary and everything that happened. It would hurt more to be around her, and not being with her. Then the guilt, the guilt from him and Helen would eat him up till he was just empty, and living on lies. No. He wouldn't put Mary or Helen through that. That's why they couldn't be friends. "I-I don't mean to hurt you, or your feelings. But we can't. It..it hurts too much. It needs to be a clean break." The brunette stated more calmly before, his hands reaching to grip the counter as his eyes remained trained on the floor. He couldn't look at her, he wouldn't. "You understand, don't you..the WPA needs you anyway." Tag: HELEN KATRINA SAVAGE

LOVE WILL LIVE, LOVE WILL LAST, love goes on and on and on. ‘No Mary. Because we were married, we can’t be friends.’
Those words were like a slap to the face. Her eyes prickled with tears that wanted to escape, but Mary was strong, always had been. She wasn’t one to show her sadness…her pain. He was angry. His demeanor showed it, his stance screamed anger. She had never seen him like this before, not even when she had thrust the divorce papers into his hands and instructed him to sign. She swallowed “Well if you feel that way…” she breathed her pain clear in her voice but quickly she cleared her throat. She hid her pain well, even around Robin. When they were married she rarely showed her pain, sure here and there she let it slip but other than that she kept her pain to herself. Not that she would tell Robin this. He most likely would flip on her. Or well he would have…
‘I-I don’t mean to hurt you, or your feelings. But we can’t. It…it hurts too much. It needs to be a clean break. You understand, don’t you…the WPA needs you anyways.’
She let out a cool collected laugh before nodding, “Yeah. Your right. Clean break.” she whispered, breathing out through her nose before looking at him. “Actually the WPA is why I am here. I have a case…break-ins, stolen items. You wouldn’t happen to know anything…would you?” she questioned him.

Releasing his grip on the table, Robin grabbed his barely eaten food and tossed it out. He wasn't hungry anyway, and he probably wouldn't keep it down. Not with his current status. Robin leaned against the table, and waited for Mary to speak. Then she did, and everything made sense. Robin licked his lips as he shook his head in disbelief and crossed his arms. "So that's why you're here, Mary. For the WPA...of course." Moving past the blonde, Robin pulled open his room door, and began assembling some clothes to wear. Mary had always been incredibly selfless. God, sometimes Robin wondered if she forgot she was living for herself. So of course when Mary had chosen the code of the WPA over him, he'd been angry, but he understood. She was too loyal to break the binding code.
But man did it hurt to know that she came back just because of the same. Robin wondered if she'd ever come back again if he never left a trail. "Mary, you're smarter then that to come here with questions you already have the answer time." Robin called out, briefly looking over his shoulder before returning to his clothes. "They won't miss anything. You know why I-" The archer added thickly, as he pulled a shirt over his head and shrugged on cloak. Robin knew she knew why he did it. The one thing Robin hated was trying to explain something he didn't have the words for. He hated it with deep passion.

LOVE WILL LIVE, LOVE WILL LAST, love goes on and on and on. ‘So that’s why you’re here, Mary. For the WPA…of course.’
He breezed past her; distaste and annoyance and hurt filled the air like stale bread. It broke her heart to see him like this. She was a passionate person. she had loved robin with all her heart, but once she got mixed up in the WPA, working with them…she couldn’t keep lying to them. She couldn’t keep lying to herself. She had a code to follow and lying to her employers was not following the code. She sighed and slowly started walking after him.
‘Mary, you're smarter than that to come here with questions you already have the answer time.’
She arrived at their—his room and stood in the doorway as he shrugged on a shirt. He stated that the people wouldn’t miss anything and that she her why. She crossed her arms over her chest; she did know why he stole. She could never forget that. She nodded her head slowly. “I shouldn’t have come. I…I can’t do this.” she breathed before quickly spinning around on her heels and stormed into the kitchen to retrieve the box. She stopped; her hands placed down on the table and let a tear roll down her cheek. She quickly brushed it away before snatching the box.

Robin watched with mournful eyes as tears built up in her blue eyes, before she turned away. Robin took a deep breath, his hands shaking as he tried to swallow back the overwhelming feelings of guilt, and love and god, he missed her. Robin knew he should let her go, but he couldn't end things like this. She was a good person, too good for Robin. But it wasn't right to Helen. Oh god, Helen.
Before Robin could contemplate more of his horrible life choices, Robin was running forward, his hand grasping Mary's that gripped the box. "Hey." He murmured in a soft voice, the softest it's been since she arrived. Prying her calloused hands from the box, Robin turned her body to face him. "Listen...I'm sorry for the way I was acting..I just don't know how to react. Things are..." Confusing, painful, rushed and everything was going a bit too fast for Robin. He wanted to slow things down so he could think.
"I shouldn't be mad at you, you did the right thing. You did the best thing." Robin added, his fingers unconsciously stroking her hand. "I'm-we're..okay." He added, as he swallowed thickly, his jaw clenching as he released her hand, and his brown eyes slowly looked up from the floor.

LOVE WILL LIVE, LOVE WILL LAST, love goes on and on and on. ‘Hey. Listen…I’m sorry for the way I was acting…I just don’t know how to react. Things are…’
Mary looked at him before swallowing “It’s fine…you reacted how anyone would react. And I understand, things are weird. They will always be weird now that we aren’t married.” she whispered. “Sooner or later we will both move on and the other will just have to stand by and watch. I guess it will be best if we don’t hang around each other…it will be too painful if we do.” she added in the same time, she said this in a rushed tone just as Robin opened his mouth to speak.
‘I shouldn't be mad at you, you did the right thing. You did the best thing. I'm-we're...okay.’
Mary nodded her head, their eyes meeting. “Good…I’m glad we’re okay. Next time…no…no next time.” she muttered this to herself as he released her hand. “I should get back to work.” she said truthfully, her eyes snapping over to the clock on the wall. “Whoa…I went over my break.” she said in a slight panic glancing back at robin before giving him a small smile. “It was…great seeing you. I hope not to see you in my office anytime soon…stay safe.” she said putting her hand on his cheek and leaning forward, she lightly brushed her lips on his own, before quickly moving to kiss his cheek. “Until we meet again.” she whispered to him before letting her hand fall limp to her side and moving around him. She pulled open the door, glancing back at his figure before disappearing through it, the door shutting behind her.
Once outside she took a deep breath before moving on down the path. “That was great Mary…just great.” she muttered to herself.
