Peter walked about casually, as if he was everything but up to no good. He knew how to act this way. Some potential thieves were nervous, and gave themselves away long before the attempted snatch. This was not the case with young Mr. Barrie. He was smooth, quick, and of course completely proud of himself and his skills. Whistling, he walked up to a man selling oranges. Oranges looked quite delicious on a summer day like this.
"Quite a fine selection you have there," he said. The man selling them grinned and thanked him, and then promised fair prices. "Oh I'm sure I'll enjoy the price indeed. In fact, I was planning to... look over there! I do believe that cart is being robbed!" The man turned his head while Peter stuffed two oranges in his bag. The man then turned back and said he saw nothing. "You know how crafty thieves can be. There one moment and gone the next." The man nodded and turned to look one last time. He turned back and Peter was gone. He whistled happily again until he bumped into a deputy. The authority figure had saw everything.
"First you're gonna take the fruit back, and then you're going to come with me," said the deputy.
"Oh certainly, sir," said Peter. "May I tie my shoe first?"
"Oh go ahead, but hurry," said the deputy. Peter nodded and bent down. But instead of tying his own shoes, he tied those of the deputy's together. He then bolted, and when the deputy gave chase, he fell on his face.
"BANGARANG!" laughed Peter as he ran.

and always will. Her brother, Kit, had scolded her for her adventures the day before, like he did all the time. He had thought her to be reckless. She…reckless? How was that even possible? She was mature, she just didn’t show it, and she was a kid in his eyes so why not act that way? Sure she was just twenty-two years old, but that didn’t mean anything. In the eyes of everyone else she was just a young girl, a child that needed a parent that needed to be watched over. So today she was going to act responsibly, act like the adult her brother wanted to be, no matter how much she wished no to grow up. On her way to the Library though, her vision was brought over to a boy, a young boy, stealing a thing of fruit from one of the carts before taking off. She watched with curiosity as the boy took off with it only to be stopped by the deputy but that took a turn for the worse when the man fell of his face and the boy took off running.
Wendy took a look around before noticing that the guy with that cart grew upset and the deputy was trying to untie his shoes. Without a thought in the world, Wendy took chase after the young thief. Surely her brother wouldn’t care if she didn’t go to her workplace today and instead try to stop a thief and be the mature person she was. But in that moment, she didn’t care about maturity. This was exciting.
“Hey!” she called after the boy as she continued to run. For her age and gender she was faster than her partners-in-crime but this boy, he gave her a run for her own money. He was fast, a lot faster than Wendy, but she kept him in sight.

Peter was still laughing away as he ran. He enjoyed his simple life. He enjoyed getting all the things he wanted and taking in the challenge that came with it. Life was a game to him. As he ran, he heard someone yell "Hey!" He turned his head only a little, barely seeing the girl who shouted it.
"Hey yourself!" he said. He then leaped up, grabbed a low branch on a tree, and began climbing it a bit. Once he reached a higher branch, he looked down at the girl. He froze for a moment. Had... had he seen here before? No, he couldn't have. He then snapped out of such thoughts and grinned at her.
"Hope you're not trying to take me to the authorities for some handsome reward, milady," he said somewhat spitefully. "For as you can see, I can fly! I can fly to the top of this tree." By "fly", he of course meant climbing rapidly. "I doubt you know how to do something like that." He then peeled an orange and add a slice. "I suppose introductions are in order. I'll tell you who I am if you tell me who you are. You look like a Maggie. Is that your name?"

and always will. ‘Hey yourself!’
Wendy had finally caught up to him, and it wasn’t long before she stood under the tree that the boy decided to climb up. She huffed crossing her arms over her chest, sure she had climbed trees before but she had told her brother no more adventures, it was time to grow up. Sure she had lied to get him off her case, but she should at least try…righting?
‘Hope you're not trying to take me to the authorities for some handsome reward, milady. For as you can see, I can fly! I can fly to the top of this tree. I doubt you know how to do something like that. I suppose introductions are in order. I'll tell you who I am if you tell me who you are. You look like a Maggie. Is that your name?’
Wendy smiled mischief before she slowly moved towards the tree and began to climb it with no problem. “Actually it’s Wendy. Wendy Moira Angela Princeton. And who are you…kind sir?” she questioned as she slowly lifted herself higher into the tree until she was standing on the branch just beneath the boy. “But do not fret, I wouldn’t dream of turning you in for some reward.” she said truth laced in her tone.

Peter watched as the girl climbed the tree. He was willing to climb higher if need be. Most assuredly, she couldn't climb as high as he could... could she? Well it would certainly be a fun game to see. She ate another orange slice and smirked as she introduced herself.
"You have four names?" he said. "Must be a terrible headache to keep up with. Well, I suppose a deal is a deal and I must introduce myself now. Name's Peter... Peter Barrie." True, he had a middle name, but he hated the sound of "Jameson". It was really best that no one knew it. "There, now we know one another, though I'd rather you not throw my name around to every adult with a listening ear. They'll put me back into that blasted orphanage."
Peter wanted to believe Wendy when she said she wouldn't turn him in. He must have believed her a bit because he didn't climb any higher.
"Wait... there's a reward for me?" he asked. "Wow, I must be popular." He then moved his hand down to her. "You'd better come and sit up here. There's room for two, and besides you look terribly silly standing there. I suppose I can't entirely distrust one who can 'fly' as I can."

Wendy smiled at the younger boy, before nodding “It’s nice to meet you Peter.” she said. If felt like she had said those words before, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. It was like a dream or a dream of a dream. She shook her head from the thought before speaking “I won’t tell anyone your name, promise.” she said pretending to zip her lips and throw away the key. She smiled and held in a laugh at her own stupid act.
‘Wait…there’s a reward for me? Wow, I must be popular.’
Wendy frowned “I actually don’t know if there is a reward, even if there was…I still would not turn you in, and if there is no reward…let us just say that you will be safe.” she said with a small smile upon her lips. His next words reached her ears and she smiled genuinely at him before slowly bringing herself up to where he was seated and perched herself gently against the branch. If it were to break under their wait, it would surely be rather painful for the both of them. She found it odd that he called climbing a tree…flying. But she didn’t bring it up.

Peter didn't hear his name spoken a lot. Most who crossed him often yelled several other names at him, most of them not very pleasant. However, when Wendy said his name, he sudden felt a warmness in his heart... and a sense of familiarity... as if such a beautiful voice had said his name before. Lost in the odd moment, she smiled at her.
"Likewise... Wendy," he said. He then cleared his throat. He couldn't go too far with the sweetness after all. He then nodded as she promised not to tell anyone his name. "Well good. I'm pretty sure we can be friends then. Fancy an orange slice?"
Peter was a bit surprised that someone wasn't trying to turn him in though, reward or no reward. Even if there wasn't a reward, there were laws against aiding thieves. Wendy could be in a lot of trouble. And really, a girl in trouble was his kind of girl, especially when the trouble involved him.
"We could both be bandits then," he said. "You seem smart enough, and with two great minds working together, there's nothing we couldn't take. We could even pay a visit to that dodgy ole queen in her pretty palace."

Wendy tilted her head, rather shocked that one moment he was saw her as a threat to his freedom and now he saw that they could one day be friends. Sure Wendy was down with making friends with new people, but was he really one he wanted to hang around. Yes she hung around with James and John, together the three of them went on adventures, but she had never been seen with a theft. What would her brother think? He already disliked her current friends. She shook her head to his question “No I am good.” she stated politely, like she had always been taught, and a smile upon her face.
‘We could both be bandits then. You seem smart enough, and with two great minds working together, there’s nothing we can’t take. We could even pay a visit to that dodgy ole queen in her pretty palace.’
Now it seemed to have taken a twist. One minute he talks as if they could be friends and now they could be partners in crime. Actually crime. She bit her bottom lip. “I do not think that is a good idea. My brother…” she trailed off as if talking of her brother brought her great embarrassment.

Peter shrugged when Wendy turned down the orange slices and popped another in his mouth.
"Well... more for me then," he said. "You're not turning it down because it was stolen, are you? I mean, stolen food is just as good as... not stolen food. But to each their own I suppose." He finished off the orange and wiped his hands on his shirt. He then noticed that the girl had a very pretty smile. "You have a nice smile, but it makes me think you're up to something. Girls with pretty smiles are always up to something. Not that this is a bad thing... maybe. What are you up to?" Peter eyed her with mock suspicion. He was obviously messing around with her to get her to smile again, maybe even laugh.
Peter then frowned when Wendy didn't agree with the idea to rob the queen... or perhaps not to be partners in crime at all. And she seemed so promising. Well, he wasn't letting her go without a proper explanation.
"So.. why not?" he said. "You don't seem the fearful type. And I swore you weren't a goody two-shoes. So... why can't you be my partner? You're missing a great game in not doing so."

A small laugh erupted from Wendy’s throat, shaking her head in amusement. “A. I already ate, so that is why I am turning you down. And b…not all girls are up to something when they smile. Sometimes it is genuine. But me…you never know.” she said her tone joking. She glanced at him and noticed his frown, was he really that upset she refused to help him steal from the queen? She made her brother a promise…and she always kept a promise no matter what.
‘So…why not? You don't seem the fearful type. And I swore you weren't a goody two-shoes. So...why can't you be my partner? You're missing a great game in not doing so.’
Game. That weird felt familiar, it sent a chill down her back. She quickly shook it away. “I do not want to get arrested. This is robbing the queen we are talking about. Plus…I promised my brother, he’s sorta a big wig in this town that I wouldn’t get into any more trouble. I always keep a promise.” she breathed.

Peter listened as Wendy went through the A's and B's of things. She wasn't going to try to teach him the alphabet, was she? A teacher had tried that with him. They got to R and Peter got terribly bored and left.
"So you're not hungry and are not up to something," he said. "So what are you? I don't think you're boring. I don't like boring people and I like you. You're pretty, but then again who isn't in that village? Everyone walking around looks like a bloody princess. Down right creepy if you ask me."
Peter then sighed when Wendy said she didn't want to rob the Queen. He didn't fear being arrested... because he knew it couldn't be caught. Well, he believed he couldn't anyway.
"Fine, no robbing the Queen," he said. "And I suppose I'd get a pummeling from this brother of yours if I made you. Alright, another game then." He then looked and the one who was chasing him earlier. This time the man had others with him. "Let's play hide and seek! They're seeking and we're hiding! Come on!" Peter began to make his way down, offering to help Wendy down as well. Fortunately the men were still a good ways away.

and always will. Wendy waited. One second, two seconds…the moments ticked by as she waited for him to speak after her words. And finally he did. He restated what she just said, that she wasn’t hungry and wasn’t up to something. All she did was slowly nod, as if she were telling a little toddler that they could have something. And then he began to ramble. He asked her what she is, or something around those lines before going on to tell her she wasn’t boring and if she was that he wouldn’t like her because boring people were not on his list of likes. Then he stated that she was pretty, but moved onto ask who in the village wasn’t. That was a very good point. Everyone in this village was pretty and handsome…meaning no one was ugly. She laughed when he said it was ‘down right creepy’.
“I have to agree. Everyone looks like they just came out of a lake of beautifulness and even a shake of their hair makes them even more beautiful.” she breathed.
‘Fine, no robbing the Queen. And I suppose I’d get a pummeling from this brother of yours if I make you. Alright, another game then.’
Wendy laughed at the idea of her brother beating up a boy. But was quickly pulled from her thoughts as he suggested hide and seek, stating that they are seeking and that they were hiding. Suddenly he made his way down and offered to help Wendy. She frowned “Who exactly is ‘they’? Who’s seeking?” she questioned unbeknownst that the men were coming closer as she allowed Peter to help her down from the tree.

Pan nodded when Wendy agreed with him. He liked agreeable people. It made them more pleasant company. He chuckled when she spoke of how they shook their hair after coming out of the most strange lake.
"Well they're still creepy," he said. "But you're not. You're pretty, but not all weird like them." Peter wasn't used to complimenting a lady, but he was pretty genuine in what he said. "I think you and I can be friends."
Peter was appreciating how nice Wendy's laugh was until the men arrived. As he took Wendy's hand and ran, he turned to her. Wendy seemed unaware of what was happening, and Peter wondered if he should tell her the truth. She did seem like she was trying to stay out of trouble, what with her brother and all.
"Um... just some friends of mine... met'em in the village!" he said. He then found a place to hide, a large hollow log. As he sat there, he thought to himself. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to lie to Wendy. It made the game unfair.
"Actually, I'm kind of in trouble with our friendly local law enforcers," he said. "Aaaand they just found me... well sort of."

and always will. Wendy had been slightly surprised at his comment but she herself didn’t comment on his words, at least she would have commented if she had the chance. Before she knew it the two were running, his hand in her’s and dragging her along, it took all the speed within her to stay with him. “Will you just tell me what’s going on?” she said loudly so that he could hear her.
‘Um…just some friends of mine…meet’em in the village! Actually, I'm kind of in trouble with our friendly local law enforcers. Aaaand they just found me... well sort of.’
Wendy’s eyes widened, “Are you kidding me? My brother is not going to be happy if we get caught.” she said her voice filled with panic. If she and Peter were caught by the law enforcers, and her brother was called, she wouldn’t ever be allowed to leave the house. And she could not have that.

Peter should have been embarrassed. Here was this beautiful and fun girl he had just met, one he really wanted to hang around with. And now they were running from the local authorities. Wendy had no reason to be in trouble like him. So why was he dragging her into it? When she asked what was going on, Pan turned to her and smiled.
"Like I said, just think of it as a really great new game!" he said. "One we darn well better win!"
When they were hiding, Peter sighed when Wendy said she worried about getting caught and how her brother would react. This did make Peter feel a bit bad, but the boy didn't like to show his inner-emotions when they were negative. So he just smiled at Wendy.
"Don't worry," he said softly. "I won't let you get caught. You can trust me." And really she could. Pan was a thief and there was no doubt about that, but he had a strong loyalty to any friend he made. He watched at the men drew near. He turned and winked at Wendy. "Watch this. One of my favorite tricks." He then suddenly changed his voice to sound nothing like his. "Gentlemen, I believe I saw the little rat running toward the Pool of Tears!" The men nodded and ran that way.
