Esmeralda has long raven black hair, and emerald green eyes. She was different from the rest of her family, as they all had
eyes that were brown.. aside from her father's which sometimes changed their hue to be blue - depending on the season. Her skin is a natural olive color which hinted at some Greek in her bloodline somewhere, although it was dominated with French.

She usually wears golden hooped earrings, a bracelet on one wrist and a anklet on the opposite ankle. She's also known to wear anything that sparkles, anything that's gold, and bonus points if it chimes when she moves. She also prefers to not wear shoes, so she is likely always seen wandering around with bare feet.

Esmeralda is kind, but feisty. She never lets anyone take advantage of her, or anyone else for that matter. She's always taken a liking to underdogs, because she'd been outcasted by everyone but her fellow gypsies and entertainers for her whole life.

Esmeralda's parents were incredibly in love. It was the kind of love that happened in storybooks. It was unfortunately cut short when Esmeralda's mother was killed when she was only a baby. Although her father tried to raise her, it only took a few years before he died of a broken heart, as he wasn't able to go on any longer without Moira. As much as he loved his daughter, he was far too broken to carry on any longer. Esmeralda suspected when she was older that he took his own life, but she was never told any different than 'He died of a broken heart'.

She was raised by her parents' clan of gypsies that entertained for a living. She learned how to dance and do tricks to mesmerize a crowd - and she learned well. During one of the carnivals in Notre Dame, she and the rest of the gypsies were putting on a show, ready to crown the King of Fools. Without realizing the man wasn't wearing a mask, a King was crowned, and then publicly humiliated. Esmeralda rushed to his aide, and it made her a target for Claude Frollo.

Esmeralda didn't like the way that Quasimodo - the man who was seemingly the ward of Claude Frollo - was treated, and so she worked to save him from Frollo. Eventually, with the help of a soldier named Phoebus, and Quasimodo himself, Frollo was defeated, and Quasimodo was free to be on his own, and to pursue his own destiny.

Separated from her gyspy friends with no recollection of them, Esmeralda is now in Wonderland with no memories, working as a dance instructor. Of course she has no funding for her work, but she finds it fun, and a great way to meet people.
