Mathias Faust groaned to himself as he opened his Curiosity Shop, eerily known as Things Best Forgotten. Considering some of the things he sold in there, it was quite the appropriate title. However, Faust was smart. he knew by the shop having such a name, it would indeed draw the curious. When it came to his business, he wasn't a worried man. That wasn't what he was groaning about.
Faust had another nightmare. Once again, these strange creatures that said they were from the Other Side appeared in his subconscious. They claimed he belonged to them. They claimed they would take him to their domain. They made him wake up in a cold sweat. Who were these shadows? Why did they want him?
Faust had to get over it though. He was tired, but he had to be at his best. Who knew might come into his shop? Perhaps someone with influence, perhaps a lovely, rich girl. Whoever it was, they could be the key to his search for wealth and power. They could be the key to getting him out of this pathetic village.

Milo had been having no luck, the books provided nothing but uncertainty. It didn't look like a diamond, even if it was cut to be elongated like this still it just didn't....look like it. Whatever it was he wasn't giving it away. The item hunt round his neck over his bow tie and his vest as well, it looked rather out of place there. He had been considering just hiding it under his shirt though it would be noticeable even then. He needed a clue, something to help him figure this out. So when his eyes caught sight of the words "Things Best Forgotten" it caused him to pause and wonder just why a person would name their shop that. Everyone had forgotten things, just as he was about to mentally question it a thought came to mind that caused him to stay put and go towards the door.
Once his hand was on the door knob, he turned it and opened the door. Entering the establishment his gaze caught sight of the owner and once the door was shut, he headed over to the.
"Excuse me, have you ever seen anything like this before?" Milo asked as he grabbed the end of the crystal that was connected to the string and held it out; though keeping it round his neck to show the man.

What did they mean? What did the shadows of his nightmares want with him? Was he someone special in a past life, someone that earned their disdain? Was it merely memories from that past life coming back t0 haunt him. While Faust found reincarnation to be a great story to con someone out of their money with, he wasn't sure if he fully believed in it himself. He wasn't just what of the dark magic he pretended to have that he believed in. But these weird nightmares made him consider some things.
He snapped out of the ongoing thoughts when he heard the door opened. He turned and gave his phony grin to who he considered to be a rather goofy looking fellow with glasses. He was about to give his usual welcoming speech, but before he could say something, the boy asked him about the strange crystal. Faust's eyes widened at that like a hungry dog looking at a steak. The truth was he didn't know a thing about the necklace... but neither did the boy. It was time to put his skills to work.
"Hmmm very interesting... very interesting indeed," he said as he made his way over. He then stood back and little and bowed. "Oh by the by, allow me to introduce myself... Mathias Faust, fortune teller, and expert on strange and curious items... at your service." He then looked at the crystal again. "I've seen this before in my past travels, and I think I can give you the information you need. Of course, you do understand, my boy... I do charge a small fee for parlaying such information."

THe way that the shop owner looked at it was, a bit unsettling to Milo for some reason. He didn't quite understand the feeling he just got it was just...a feeling. Pushing it aside, Milo brought the crystal closer to himself. It was interesting how this crystal wasn't even in any of the books from what he could find.
"Nice to met you Mr. Faust, I'm Milo Thatch." Milo introduced once Faust was done.
A surprised look came to Milo's face but a smile quickly took over his facial features, really?! They had seen it before?! Milo had been hoping someone had alas he was kind of doubting a simple shop owner would've but hey anything was possible. At the mention of fee, Milo was snapped out of his internal joy.
"Oh of course, I have money." Milo answered as he let the crystal hang from his neck and reached for his pants pocket to take out some coin.

So this was Milo Thatch? Faust had no clue who Milo Thatch was... but he needed to learn more. If he was going to bleed this young man dry of his cash, then he had to make the boy believe that he knew most everything about him. For now, he had to play with what he had, and he was pretty good at that.
"Milo Thatch... well of course you're Milo Thatch," he said. He looked at the fellow's glasses. "I'm well aware of one of the brightest young men in the village. I'll wager you are weary from your job at the..." He looked him over and made a quick guess. "School isn't it?" He didn't show it on his face, but he hoped he was right.
Faust smiled when the young man said he had money. When he took out the coin, Faust bit on it a bit to double check. It wasn't as much as Faust hoped for, but it was a start.
"This will do," he said. "However, please understand if we do undergo this little investigation, it may take time, and in my business, more time means more money. I trust you understand. Please, join me in the parlor." He then motioned toward the parlor, letting Milo go first.

One of the brightest? Milo didn't think he was really that smart, sure he knew several things but...really he didn't think he would be in that area.
"The...bolier room to be exact at the school, though you are right on the weary part." Milo answered. "Of course, one just can't snap their fingers and have something happens. It takes a while, I just hope...we find something."
He really did, when gestured to head to the parlor Milo did so. Not really sure on what they were going to do now.

Inside his head, Faust was relieved that his guess was right. He hated that sometimes he had to pull off his "special abilities" by making wild guesses based off observation. Fortunately, most of the time he was right.
"But of course the Boiler Room," he said. "And you must be weary, wishing to go above and beyond said room, to explore and discover the great mysteries." He then drew in. "If anything, I imagine you are curious about the world and said mysteries?" He knew this had to be true. Everyone he walked to wanted to know something beyond their current situations. Why would Milo be different?
Once in the Parlor, Faust stepped over and made the two some tea. When he was sure Milo wasn't looking, he slipped a powder in Milo's cup. The powder was harmless, but it caused mild hallucinations. They were just enough though to make his guest believe that Faust was what he claimed to be. He then turned with the cups.
"We'll have some tea and then we will have visitors, my boy," he said. "You will see those inhabitants of the worlds beyond who will bestow upon you and I the knowledge we need. Of course, only one with my abilities can summon them." He then handed Milo the cup. "Now drink up before it gets cold. That stuff's not cheap."

"I....I would like to do something more...useful. I mean, a maintenance man is more suited to that task and...well...it's odd that they want me to stay there." Milo replied. "Well considering my own past is a mystery and I do want to remember, I guess I'd learn things about the world and it's mysteries on the way, so I guess."
Milo hadn't thought much on the world's mysteries. He wanted to remember and got absorbed in trying to figure out just what this crystal was. So he hadn't given other things much thought really. Once in the parlor and seated, Milo glanced about. Not paying the man attention was they made the tea and then secretly dose it. His attention was snapped back when they spoke and instructed him to drink. A tad odd but Milo took the cup and took a drink.

Well, Milo seemed a bit unsure, but he did admit Faust was right to some extent. Faust could work with that. Sometimes things didn't go as perfectly as one could hope, but one dealt with such things.
"I knew it!" laughed Faust. "A man who desires to see more... much more. Well I'm sure you will, my friend. And I will be more than happy to guide you toward these mysteries of the unknown. Today you are going to see great and magnificent things! These you've only imagined in your brightest dreams and most intriguing nightmares!" He then sang out the line "A Whole New World!!!", not sure where that came from. He cleared his throat. "Got a bit excited there."
As he watched Milo drink the tea, Faust prepared to do his act. He knew the drug in the tea would do the rest. True, the illusion was different for everyone, but they would always hear Faust words as they were under the effects of the drug. Those effects were merely "theatrics" in a sense.
"Milo, old boy, don't be afraid as you enter this place unlike other places," he said. "It's a good place... a place of answers... are you there, Milo?"
(Feel free to be elaborate with what Milo is seeing under the effects of the drug.)
