[attr="class","LD1textarea"] Facilier was born on the dark side of the Bayou, a mysterious place were both noble and sinister magic was made. He was never told what had happened to his birth parents, but the only family he remembered from his childhood was Mama Odie, a kind,and wise, but eccentric woman who tried to steer him in the right direction in learning the art of magic and voodoo. She almost succeeded if she hadn't told him about certain spell books in her possession that he was never to open and read. She said that such magic, if released, could spell doom for all the Bayou. Odie should have realized that Facilier, like most children his age, was far too curious. So one night while Odie was out hunting for ingredients for one of her potions, he sneaked into the room where she kept the books and read them. There he learned about dark, shadow-like creatures from a place called "The Other Side." These creatures would give a person great power... in exchange for a great price. Not only would the person who obtained such power have to give up their freedom, but their very soul. Facilier, now a teenager, seemed to care little about that little detail as he stole the books and ran away from Odie.[break][break]
As an adult, he set up shop in New Orleans as a witch doctor. Suave, charming, and smooth-talking, many thought he was just another con man like many who claimed to know voodoo in the city, but he relished that assumption as it made people unaware of the dark magic he could do thanks to the aid of his friends on the Other Side. One of his most infamous dark deeds was when he turned one Prince Navine into a frog when he discovers that the prince is to marry Charlotte La Bouff, the daughter of the richest man in New Orleans. Manipulating Navine's servant into posing as Navine via a bit of dark magic, Facilier almost accomplished his plan of taking over New Orleans. However, Navine, a waitress with big dreams named Tiana (who the prince himself accidentally turned into a frog), and other friends they had made stopped his scheme. When the creatures from the Other Side saw he had failed in his plot, they made him "pay up" and dragged him to their domain. However, Facilier managed to talk his "friends" into giving him another chance and he was brought back to New Orleans. However, as he was about to get his revenge on Navine and Tiana, the Curse happened.[break][break]
Facilier now lives in Wonderland under the name Mathias Faust. This time, he is very much a Con Man posing as a Fortune Teller and the owner of a strange Curiosity Shop in the village. This time, however, he is without the dark magic to back up his claims of being legit at what he does. Interestingly enough though, despite him losing his memories, the creatures from the Other Side have followed him to Wonderland, the Curse having no effect on them as their domain was out of the reach of the Curse. However, they can only appear to Faust in dreams... or rather nightmares... with Faust not knowing what they are, where they came from, or what they are talking about when they insist he has made a deal with them. For the time being, Faust dismisses their visits as merely bad dreams and goes about his own crooked business. He also looks for other dark souls like his to work with, as his desire for wealth and power is still very much entact.
