Alice loved books. Sure, they made her imagination go even more wild than usual, but that was part of their appeal. She had finished a small pile that she had been reading, and decided that it was time to get new ones. She quickly changed out of her pajamas and in to a light blue dress. Once her hair was brushed and affixed with a black headband, she made her way out of her door and off to the book shop to purchase some more literature to keep her entertained.
Once she entered the shop, she looked around for the shop keeper, Isabelle. She had spoken to her a few times passing, but they never had a deep conversation. Alice wasn't sure why, either.. She seemed like such a nice girl! And they both enjoyed books, so perhaps they had more in common than she had originally thought. She made her way straight to the fantasy section when she stepped inside, but didn't bother to call out for assistance just yet. She didn't want to bother Isabelle if she was busy.

Belle was in the back of the shop looking over a new book delivery. She wasn't sure where she was getting the books from, but she always had a generous supply, so she didn't argue. And not having to pay the deliverer helped her save money, which was a good thing. She had to keep up the shop, play the Queen's taxes, and of course make sure that she and Aesop had food and a place to sleep. Belle smiled at some of the new titles she had received. She already knew of a few she was going to read herself.
Belle and Aesop, who was sitting on one of the boxes, looked toward the shop when they heard the little bell above the door ring. She placed down the book in her hand and stepped out. Alice was always such a nice lady, and Belle enjoyed her visits. They shared a love for books as well. And Belle always appreciated that. True the two hadn't talked a great deal, but Belle still enjoyed what interaction they had. She hoped they could talk more in time.
"Hello Alice," she said. "What may I help you with today? Oh, I just got some wonderful books in actually. If you wish, you can come to the back and look over some." Belle never minded if someone came to the back to look over the new items. She had no secrets back there or anything silly like that.

Alice had read some of the books already, but there was nothing catching her eye. Apparently she was in a strange sort of mood. She skimmed over the spines of the books and sighed quietly to herself. "Hmm.. decisions decisions," She pondered out loud - even though she was still whispering. When she heard a voice, she turned to see Isabelle. A wide smile appeared on the blonde's face, and she greeted her with a small wave. "Hello, Belle!" When she explained that she got a new shipment of books in, Alice gasped. "Oooh, wonderful! Thank you so much!"
After Isabelle invited her in to the back room to look over the new books, Alice followed excitedly. She trusted her taste in books.. She was known in the village for being a bit of a book worm, but she loved that about her! All of the adventures Belle must have taken in books.. Alice was envious. She knelt down near the boxes, and started looking through them. "Oh, Belle.. These look so exciting!" She cooed, and lifted out one in particular that had a leather binding. "Have you read this one yet?"

At first it seemed like Alice was just browsing. That was fine with Belle. She loved when people browsed. She found herself doing that often as well, and when she did, she ended up finding some amazing book that she hadn't noticed before. She did frown a bit when she saw that nothing seemed to interest Alice. That was okay too though. Some shopping days could be like that for her too.
Belle beamed when Alice wanted to go to the back though. Showing off new books to people made Belle feel like a young schoolgirl again. This was odd though as Belle didn't actually recall being a schoolgirl. But she seemed to remember what the feeling was like, so be that as it may. She knelt down and went through them as Alice did. She smiled as Alice said they looked exciting, but then sighed a bit.
"They are exciting indeed," she said. "And there's a lot of them. It's going to take a while to get them all out. I had someone come in to help last week, but I couldn't pay much. She left when she found a better job I suppose." Belle then realized how gloomy she sounded, and perked herself up when Alice showed her the book. "I don't believe I have. Want to see what it's about?"

As excited as Alice was, she couldn't help notice that Belle seemed a little glum when she mentioned the girl who had been helping her, but found a new job. Alice pursed her lips in to a frown, and was about to say something before she was suddenly pulled in another direction. Belle asked if Alice wanted to see what the book was about. "Oh, yes, please!" She squeaked excitedly. "I'd love to read it. And actually.." She pondered, suddenly remembering what she was going to say before. "If you need some help, I can come work for you! And you wouldn't have to pay me at all.. just let me read," She spoke with a large grin.
"I.. I don't have a job or anything, and I always find myself with nothing to do but ponder everything, and all I do is come up with blank spaces and answers. Working here at the book shop for you would keep my mind from wandering off somewhere that I can't find it."

Belle certainly wasn't trying to to sound like she was tempting Alice into working for her. She just considered Alice a nice girl that would allow her to vent just a tad. After all, Belle rarely vented. Still, she beamed when Alice said she would love to work for her. Belle certainly needed someone like Alice. She needed someone who respected books as much as she did.
"Oh I'd love that, Alice!" she said. She wanted to hug Alice, but wasn't sure if Alice was the hugging type. She extended her hand instead. "And of course I would pay you, along with letting you read of course. And there isn't really much work to do. Just stocking books now and then, and a bit of tidying up. So there's plenty of time to read."
Belle then nodded when Alice spoke of her mind wandering off.
"I know how you feel," she said. "Tell me, Alice, do you feel like there is more to our lives than this village? As if we've been other people before... lived in other places? I can't recall anything of the sort in my brain, but something deeper inside tells me that's the case."

Belle seemed incredibly excited, which made Alice even more joyful. Belle shook Alice's hand, but Alice pulled her right in to a cheerful hug. "Wonderful! It's settled then! I'll come work for you, and we can spend the day chatting away and reading!" This was sounding better and better with each passing moment! Belle told her that she'd pay her, but Alice didn't really need that. Of course, money was needed she supposed, but that wasn't why she wanted to help. "We'll talk payment later, money comes and goes. Books and friendships are what lasts, don't you think?" She asked with a sweet, beaming smile.
When the girl asked if she thought there was more to the village and spoke of how her mind felt, Alice's eyes widened. "Oh, Belle! That's exactly how I feel, too! I thought I was the only one.. Sometimes i'm a little.. spacey, I suppose is a nice way of saying it, and I thought it was just me being silly. But I do feel like there's something i'm missing. Parts of my mind that are just..gone. However, in the same regard, I do feel like I belong in Wonderland."

Belle was so happy! She couldn't believe she had someone to help her. And not just someone... Alice! Alice was someone she could just spend the day going on about books with. And with as many books out there, they would never stop having things to talk about. She hugged Alice back and beamed.
"We're going to have so much fun!" she said. "I've very much wanted to have someone like you here. Oh my, where do we start?" Belle nodded about discussing payment later, but she would be more than fair on that. She was willing to split the profits 50/50 if Alice wished. They could be partners!
Belle shook her head and frowned a bit when Alice felt like she belonged in Wonderland.
"I don't," she said. "I'm not sure where I belong, but it's not here. And often when I read books about a prince and a princess, I feel like I can relate. I don't recall ever being in love, but something tells me perhaps... in a past life, I was in love and it was very unique... like not a typical romance." She then chuckled. "My goodness, I must sound terribly silly."

Alice was thrilled that Belle accepted her hug with such excitement. The two of them were going to get along very well indeed. The question of where to start made Alice beam again. "We could start putting the new books away! The idea of being surrounded by the scent of new books made her absolutely whirl with happiness! Although the conversation had gone from books, to previous lives, and honestly, it was something that Alice was keen on talking about. She was never able to speak of such things with anyone else. She knelt down, and listened to Belle as though she were telling a story.
Alice, herself, had never related to the Princes and Princesses of story books, and she couldn't relate to being in love either.. but she certainly knew what it was like to feel as though something, somewhere, was a bit not right. "You don't sound silly at all!" she cooed. "Maybe once upon a time, you were a princess in a far off castle.. and you had a charming prince. Or, maybe he was an out of the ordinary prince." She smiled sweetly. "It sounds like a beautiful story.. have you ever thought of writing a book, yourself? Maybe you could take everything you fee like you had in another life, and write it down." It might not be real.. but who knew? It could even somehow lead to real memories.

Belle nodded in agreement about putting the books out. She could hardly sell them... or more importantly introduce customers to the wonderful world of literature if they didn't go out. Belle had a simple way of organizing them, and she doubted Alice would have trouble with it.
"Alright, so all the books are marked by genre and I have the signs for each genre on their appropriate bookshelf," she said. "I alphabetize by author's last name. Believe me, once you get going, you'll have no trouble whatsoever. And we certainly don't have to put all these out at once."
Belle sounded relieved to know that Alice didn't find her silly. Some people did. Often they must not have know that she could hear them when she passed by. She really is a funny girl, that Belle. It didn't bother her all that much, but no one wanted to be seen as silly all the time.
"Perhaps I was at one time, but if so it would be wonderful to know where and when," she said with a smile. "You must have been an extraordinary person yourself in a past life. If you did always live in Wonderland, perhaps you were a prominent figure here. Perhaps you did something amazing." Belle shrugged a bit. "Who knows, perhaps you and I will do something amazing here some day." Belle then beamed a bit about the idea of writing a book. "Oh believe me, I want to, but it's hard to take the ideas I have and get them on paper. But I'm trying. What about you? What do you want to do?"
