Everything was perfect and prim and proper, just as everything should be! Her husband was wealthy, making her wealthy, and she loved him for reasons other than his money--really, she did. Despite her cold countenance, Dione was fairly affectionate toward her husband behind closed doors, where no one would see her be affectionate. With her husband she had two daughters, Anastasia and Drizella, both of whom she would have given the world for! No one saw that part of Dione, though. Amongst the elite, she was Lady Tremaine, a poised and pompous noble who spoke with the same silver she ate off of. She was content where she was like a fat bird nestled in its fat nest. But then a freak gale of wind knocked her out of her nest and off her branch entirely. Down she tumbled to the ground where she was met with a great tragedy: the death of her husband. Down she tumbled to the ground where she met another man, a man who loved his daughter far more than he would ever love her!

Dione's life had crumbled almost entirely before her eyes and now she had to be married to a simple merchant with a daughter far fairer than her own! It was fine, though. She could adjust. She just had to keep her poise! But even that was not enough. It wasn't enough to keep her second husband, who died shortly after their marriage. Left to care for his daughter, Lady Tremaine began to take her shortcomings and her daughters' out on her, forcing her to do all of the housework and more. She forbade her from doing certain things or even seeing certain people; she made sure to make her life the worst it could be!

When Dione's daughters failed to take the Prince's hand in marriage, Dione spiraled into a rage, kindled only by the fact that her step-daughter had married the Prince instead.

After the Curse, however, Dione remembers none of that and remembers only that she belongs with the elite, where she fits in quite well. She fits in well because she's outwardly graceful, a real lady, but in the burden of solidarity, she's a rather troubled person. After all, there's only so much money can buy. Dione is cruel but not without reason! Most people only know her as unabashedly cruel and mean-spirited, however. Let me tell you that just isn't true! Lady Tremaine is fully capable of love and friendship, but her past tragedies have distanced her from people, causing her to be stand-offish. She may not seem it, but she wears her heart on her sleeve, taking insults and snide remarks personally (though she internalizes them and usually turns them into indiscriminate anger, sort of like pressing coal into a diamond).

Although difficult to pick them out, Lady Tremaine does have some redeeming qualities! She's extremely intelligent and observant, easily picking up on even the smallest detail. Despite her own lack of emotions, she has a sharp emotional intelligence, knowing what or how to say something to someone to make them feel a certain way; she's also as good or better than a bloodhound at sniffing out peoples' emotions. Whether or not she uses them against you depends on how much she trusts you (so best to stay on her good side). Aside from the obvious, Dione is extremely devoted to those she feels worthy of being devoted to. But she does have a hard time letting go. And maybe the least obvious of all is the fact that Dione is a little bit of a hopeless romantic. Just a little bit. Don't let that fool you, though--she's become very cynical and skeptical of love in her age!
