Clopin was--how could Talon put it in a nice way--eccentric? He no doubt had many people wrapped around his finger so Talon had no reason to write him off just yet; however, he was just such a hassle to deal with sometimes. He was one of the few people Talon wasn't afraid to show his annoyance with, mostly because Clopin would bother him regardless of if he was nice or not.
Talon had wandered toward the worse-off part of the village where he thought Clopin might be hanging around. He loved the poor types for some reason. They had their purpose, Talon supposed, but there wasn't much to gather from them. If Clopin really wanted money or status or influence or whatever it was that Clopin wanted (what did he want, anyways?) then he should have been snooping around the palace or at least around the merchants' homes.
He didn't consider Clopin a friend so much as a business partner, but he could respect that he had a greater deal of knowledge of the village than he did. So when Talon caught word of something, he liked to ask Clopin about it (though why he liked asking him was unknown as his "partner" was too cryptic). Maybe there was an underlying factor but Talon didn't know. He didn't know his own ulterior motive--that was new. @clopin

Oh, how funny was this? It looked as though Talon had made his way slinking around through the village. Clopin watched him from afar, quite curious to what he was doing there. He did have a feeling that he was looking for someone though (a feeling that said that Talon was searching for him). Why else would Talon be out and about? And Clopin really could not say no to the opportunity of finding out first hand why he was here. After all, he did take quite a lot of delight out of poking good fun at the brute! Charming words and a sweet exterior apparently had not been reserved for the likes of Clopin Truand because with this one he hardly received it. That would not be a problem though.
When he finally decided to approach the man he did it in several leaping bounds from behind. Between his wide steps he pulled a satin scarf from his back pocket and pulled it around Talon’s neck as he spun around to stand before him. He took both ends of the scarf to pull his dear friend uncomfortably close and gave him a devious look.
“Lucky lucky me to find such a person walking through my end of town,” Clopin told him in a mockingly flirtatious tone all the while rolling his shoulders as if to invite Talon into a playful dance. “You wouldn’t happen to be out looking for me, would you? You need only to call, Talon, and Clopin will hear you.”
The relationship that he had with this man could have possibly been a dangerous one. He knew that Talon did not exactly enjoy his antics, but it was all the more reason to drive him up the wall. Clopin also did not fear the man. Even if he did try to hurt him, Clopin liked to think of himself as quick and at least have enough wits about him to outdo this one. Not to mention, he had a feeling that darling Talon wouldn’t dare to harm him. @talon

Talon was nearly about to give up his romp when suddenly he felt a brush of fabric across his neck. All that he knew after that was that he was being propelled toward the dark-eyed (and dark-minded) man named Clopin. Talon clawed at the scarf around his neck almost immediately--he was terribly defensive about his throat--but once he saw Clopin before him, he let his arms fall limp at his side, appearing nearly defeated had his jaw not been lined rigidly and eyes penetrating Clopin's skull. Occurrences like this weren't uncommon between the two of them, but Talon loathed them nevertheless. Clopin had a way of sending a chill of disgust up and down his spine that no one else had.
"I don't know why I seek you out," Talon grumbled, forcefully pushing away one of Clopin's hands to unravel the scarf from round his neck. Grumbling again, he added, "Do you have to stand so close?" Talon took two steps from him and then frowned.
There was always something disconcerting about Clopin's grin, just like a serial killer's eyes. Talon was never so uncomfortable with someone like he was with Clopin. Nonetheless, he was able to swallow his unease and ask him, in a much more casual and calm tone than before, "Have you heard anything... of use in... your part of town?" He didn't have to explain to Clopin his "part of town" because he knew very well what it was. It was the dirty, shady part with lots of dirty, shady fellows such as Clopin himself. @clopin

At his reaction, Clopin smirked knowing that he’d gotten some surprise out of him. And how could he not look pleased when Talon looked so displeased? It really didn’t take much to bring a smile to Clopin’s face and his friend here could have made use in taking notes since he usually made a face like he’d had garbage glued to his upper lip – funny he looked that way around Clopin, no? Needless to say, when Talon forced one of Clopin’s hands loose the limber brunette made no fuss about it. He took his scarf and began to instead twirl it around his fingers, slowly.
He mimicked Talon and took two steps back. He cocked his head and dropped the grin to give a more thoughtful look now. “I do love the scent of complete disdain,” Clopin told him while using one of his fingers to point Talon’s way. “Suppose that makes me a bit overly eager to be close.”
The look on Clopin’s face did not change even when he found himself pleased at Talon’s question. He just found it so absolutely amusing that Talon would be seeking him out for some kind of information. To be honest, Clopin did not know much about anything that was going on just yet. He knew that most everyone he’d met seemed to be just as seriously confused as he was though. Nobody really knew how anyone had gotten here or even why they were here. And, other than that, Clopin had no knowledge of any shady or important business happening around the place. There was a far better chance of Talon finding out the interesting things in that palace.
His face became grim and his dark eyes wandered away from Talon’s blue ones. He made a frown as if contemplating whether or not he should say anything at all. Then, after just a moment, his eyes darted back in Talon’s direction.
“If it’s something of use that you want to hear then you’re hardly going to catch me saying it when you’re standing so far off,” he explained while motioning toward the gap between them now. Talon wouldn’t want any of what they were saying to be carried away on the breeze to another pair of curious ears would he? Clopin used one of his index fingers that was now wrapped in the scarf to beckon Talon over in his direction. “I might have something to say if you can keep your mouth shut about it.” @talon

Somewhat paranoid of their meeting, Talon's eyes began to flit around the village they were standing so conspicuously in. He began to shift around uneasily like a druggie going through withdrawals before finally letting his gaze rest back on Clopin. Talon was never so anxious, but he longed to be far from Clopin, especially when he had that weaselly little grin on his face. How could a smile be so... dastardly? Although Talon was no good guy himself, he had about as much cruelty in his entire body that Clopin did in one smile! It was like turning around to see a tornado barreling toward you--all you could do is stare at the impending disaster!
"Don't be stupid," Talon shot back at Clopin, placing his arms akimbo to make himself seem more stern. Leaning back into his heels, he looked to his right, his brow furrowing in contemplation. There was something to be said about this Clopin. And it wasn't a good something. However, he was far from stupid; sneaky, unsettling, trifling--he was all of those things, though.
Talon had begun to search his surroundings again, trying to appear casual, but it was obvious from his tense stance that he was anything but. When Clopin spoke again, Talon slowly turned his head back toward him and his face gradually twisted in misconception as if he had heard something he wasn't sure he had heard correctly. But he had... heard it correctly. For a moment, Talon didn't speak and instead gave Clopin a look of incredulity, as if saying 'really?' However, Talon wasn't above compromise! Begrudgingly Talon took a small step forward and gestured a hand out in a presenting manner. "There. I'm closer. Now tell me what you know." @clopin

It was clear by the look on his face that Clopin was not so pleased with the minimal amount of effort that Talon had put in. The man narrowed his eyes and looked down the bridge of his nose at the large amount of space that still stood between the pair of them. Eventually the dark brown irises reached Talon’s feet and traveled up from there until Clopin managed to lock eyes with the other. He still appeared displeased and for a moment held his pose and remained completely still. He tilted his chin more upward after a moment, a grin coming onto his lips although his eyes still remained rather… emotionless.
Clopin tucked the scarf away into another pocket as he dropped his hand. He then placed his hand beside his mouth to create a barrier in order to whisper his secrets in the direction of Talon. His face had dropped by then and his eyes had finally caught up to the grin that had crept up onto his face. Then he breathed very (purposely) quietly, “if you really wanted to have any of my help then you ought to have put a little more trust in me.”
After whispering his words, Clopin moved one foot back behind the other and then slowly pivoted around to make it the leading one – leading away from Talon. It wasn’t always wise to turn your back on someone, especially those who were as misleading as Talon could sometimes be. But Clopin could hope that he would assume right in Talon pursuing him. When he wanted something, Clopin had no doubt that Talon would go barreling after it. Especially if one could find the right buttons to press.
He carried on walking away, lifting his hand above his shoulder and waving his fingers a bit to add to the whole “good day to you” effect. @talon

There was always something so terribly deliberate in every small motion Clopin made, and Talon had learned to pick up on that. So when Clopin eyed him and then began to tuck away his piece of fabric he called a scarf, Talon already knew that he had made a mistake. He wasn't normally violent but this dark-haired menace made him want to be sometimes. As the other opened his mouth to speak, Talon's immediate reaction was to clench his jaw, as if bracing for some awful news. He also narrowed his eyes, making sure that Clopin knew how skeptical he was of him.
When Clopin pivoted on his heel, Talon's brows shot up in surprise then creased them until a few lines appeared just above the bridge of his nose. He had expected more from Clopin but not for him to leave! That was far too straightforward for him. Talon didn't hesitate one moment to clamber after him, though, even sauntered in front of him so as to block him (despite being easily walked around). "Who said anything about not trusting you? If it's what you want, I'll hold your hand and skip with you through the village if you have good enough information," Talon retorted, half-sarcastic and half-serious. He really shouldn't have said anything, though, because in the pit of his stomach Talon had a feeling that Clopin might just take him up on that offer. It wasn't necessarily disgust that he felt but something more along the lines of... dread, like the ache of knowing what was coming. Even if it was not holding hands and skipping through the village, surely Clopin had in mind some kind of other cruel and unusual punishment. @clopin

It was no surprise that Talon was trying to stop him seeing as Clopin had expected it. Talon did not seem to be the type to simply… give up. No, he’d get what he’d want even if it meant keeping Clopin from disappearing off into the shadows of the village! However, Clopin did not have any interest in letting Talon win anything so easily. They both knew that and Clopin was curious to see just how far he could push this one. What exactly would it take for him to finally lose his patience – completely?
Rather than coming to a stop as Talon placed himself in front of him, Clopin brought a hand up and gently placed his fingertips on Talon’s chest. He only lightly pushed away from him to spin around and stand beside him. Clopin did not much appreciate having Talon standing in front of him – in his way. Since he now stood beside him, Clopin leaned over in his direction until their shoulders just barely touched, his dark eyes turning to gaze over at him while he furrowed his brow.
“Skip through town holding hands?” Clopin repeated to him skeptically. Clopin made a face at him then and gave a gentle, slow shake of his head. “Please, don’t be ridiculous. Skipping through town with the likes of you would bring me no joy.” He lifted his hand and gave it a delicate kind of wave while grinning. “You are more than welcome to skip about on your own, but I’ll have no part in the nonsense.”
Clopin then took a step backwards to continue on in the direction he’d been going before Talon interposed. “Now why don’t you scurry on back into your neck of the woods,” he suggested to him. “You’ve only wasted my time and offered nothing of use to me in return for my services. Go on, skip away.” @talon

Talon had been patient more than enough with Clopin! The little trickster sure knew how to rile him up, that much was for certain. Every hand gesture, every word he said, and even how he said them made Talon's hair stand on end. He just wanted information, but this bottom-dweller had to make it difficult! Had he still fangs, he wouldn't have hesitated to take Clopin in his jaws and shake him like a ragdoll!
After Clopin's spiel, Talon was of course fuming, rage festering in his ribcage. It was evident by the tight jaw, as well as the flared nostrils, but he closed his eyes a moment and mentally swallowed his anger--for the time being. "Nothing of use?" Talon hissed in his direction, "You know who would save your hide if worst came to worst. Not your vagabond friends, that's for sure." In clenching his teeth, he bit back the temptation to say anything more. After a moment of composing himself, Talon again addressed Clopin, though this time in a much teasing tone. "Am I really the worst you've ever skipped about town with?" he asked in a mock-betrayed voice.
The way to Clopin's heart (and to his information) was sarcasm. Rich, thick, dripping sarcasm. He was like a puppy, always wanting to play, play, play. Well, there was such a thing as playing too much! For a lot of people, toying around with info like this would have him lying prostrate on the ground. Fortunately for him, Talon was a gentle soul. @clopin

Now he’d managed to get his goat! Clopin knew that Talon’s patience would only last for so long (not very long) and that if he held out then he’d get some more interesting responses. Not to mention, he’d start getting some honest ones. Clopin took a step forward again and reversed his earlier action to place himself back in front of Talon. He crossed his arms over his chest and tilted his head looking as if he’d never actually thought about what Talon had to say! Because Clopin was so certain that Talon would come rushing to his aid in a time of need – hah! Clopin knew better than to put his faith in this one.
“Oh… you’ve got a point, Talon,” Clopin replied. His long fingers drummed against bicep and he gave a single, slow nod. “I suppose you really are the only one who is looking out for me and so I clearly owe you something in return. How very selfish of me.” Clopin looked him in the eyes then and offered a somewhat apologetic kind of smile (though he was far from being sorry about anything). “The worst? No, but you are a contender for the ugliest.”
Clopin wrinkled his nose, his shoulder shrugging as he took several steps back and away from Talon. This was not out of fear, but out of the boredom of still having to stand in the same place. He decided that if Talon wanted to talk then he’d have to be willing to “skip around town with him.” Only, luckily for them both perhaps, Clopin didn’t want to go skipping and he was not terribly interested in holding Talon’s hand. Personal space was not something that Clopin knew too much about, but he wouldn’t want to go and make any of Talon’s predictions come true, would he? And so he stuck with walking backwards, slowly for the moment.
“So you’re interested in knowing the things that I know,” Clopin mused, almost to himself. “And what kind of things would that be relating too? You’ve got to be far more specific than what you are being for me to have anything to give to you. Then I could tell you a thing or two, I’d think.” @talon
