Once upon a time in a land far far away...[break][break]
Princess Aurora - or Briar Rose as many still call her - was put under a treacherous spell by the Mistress of All Evil, Maleficent herself. Of course the spell didn't last long, as her one true love, Prince Phillip, kissed her and all was well again. At least until her seventeenth birthday. Something horrible has happened to Aurora and now she can remember nothing from her sixteenth birthday. In fact, in her mind, she still lives in the old cottage deep in the forest, and her friends are all still animals. She doesn't even remember her real name! [break][break]
Rose went back to the forest and the now abandoned cottage to live in quiet bliss with the forest Owl, Rabbit, and a few Birds. Phillip got wind of where his new bride went and tried to persuade her to come back, but Rose does not remember who he is either! So he went back to King Stephan, and they both have planned to give her some time alone before they came back and revealed the truth of her past (and present) via magic from the Three Good Fairies. With Maleficent out of the way, the only thing left to do is find out how and when Rose's memory was wiped. Of course Rose suspects something is out of place, but her always-cheerful personality will not let her dwell too long on negative emotions if she cannot easily fix them. [break][break]
To make a living, Rose works in the village and sells fruit, vegetables, and flowers which she collects from the woods or raises in her home's garden. Many people recognize her for who she really is, but understand that something horribly wrong has happened to her memory and sanity (possibly a side effect of Maleficent's curse), so they go along with what she says and try to take care of her when she needs it. Village life becomes Princess Aurora well, and every villager and peasant seem to love her more each day. She is kind to everyone she meets - the town bums, drunkards, women and children, men who are often only after one thing, old women with bitter demeanor, and everyone in between. Because she is such a beautiful person to a fault, Rose has been proposed to about four times, and each time she declined because she knew something wasn't right - either with her, or the men asking for her hand. [break][break]
Occasionally, Rose encounters a few girls her age here and there who fit into one of two categories: hangers-on who want to be her friend to have the chance to visit the palace; girls who are blatantly jealous of Rose's beauty and go out of their way to tell her as much. Usually Rose doesn't let these types of girls bother her though many around her feel she should put her foot down at least once. The want of human friends hasn't seemed to entirely register with Rose, and she is perfectly content with having animals as friends, and humans as mere acquaintances or strangers. [break][break]
About once every two weeks, a palace guard dressed as a peasant goes into the forest and checks on Rose to make sure she is alright, but he never makes himself known to her. Rose suspects someone watches her every now and then, but she has made up her mind not to care unless the watchful pair of eyes reveals who they are. [break][break]
But there is also another being watching Rose's day-to-day life with pure hatred and rage who has also seemed to lose most, if not all, of her memory. Rose and her forest friends are unaware of this second being and so they do not prepare to protect themselves because one day - oh yes - the second being will strike, and the strike will hit Rose with deadly force. [break][break]
Or maybe it will prick her finger and kill her once and for all.
