Nala was born to Sarafina, a lioness in the pride that was led by King Mufasa. His son Simba was in line to be the king, and Simba was her best friend. Simba was always very rebellious and playful and always getting into trouble, but Nala was always right beside him. She was always up for playing around and getting into trouble with him. Her fur was a light sandy color, and as a pup her paws were colorless, unlike most of the cubs that were her age. Her inner ears and the tip of her tail were brown and her eyes appeared as a pale green.
When Nala grew into adulthood, she ended up looking very much like her mother Sarafina, becoming sleeker and having the physique of the practiced hunter lionesses become. She even is able to hold her own against Simba when they meet later on, despite him being much larger than she is.
Nala was sassy as a cub, and defensive of her accomplishments, and tended to give Simba playful jabs, though she was an encouraging friend to Simba and was kind to him. Even if he made a mistake. They were very close, and it hit her pretty hard when he was thought to have died.
Not having her friend to get into trouble with she stopped getting into trouble. She became more mature and responsible, as well as persistent. Under Scar's reign things became pretty bad. Scar let the Hyenas run wild through pride lands, feeding on any and all animals they could which made the other animals leave the pride lands and the plant life dyed down so food became incredibly scarce. Which was why Nala left the pride lands in search of food. She was going after a warthog when a Lion appeared and ultimately stopped her from her meal.
It turned out it was Simba, and he was alive! She was so happy to see him, figuring if he came back and took his rightful place as king. Simba refused, thinking he was responsible for his father's death. She tries to reason with him, telling him that he is their only hope. He denies that he is their last hope and with sarcasm apologizes to her. She is incredibly disappointed and tells him he is not the Simba she remembers, he says he is different and claims she sounds like his father to which she mumbled that at least one of them sounds like Mufasa and is willing to take up their responsibilities, and they get into an argument. They calm down and Nala asks him what happened to him calmly but he refuses so she angrily responds, walking away from him. Rafiki convinces Simba to return, and Nala approaches Timon and Pumbaa in order to find Simba only to be told by Rafiki that "The King has returned". So after a quick explanation to Timon and Pumbaa and runs off to help him.
The two along with Timon and Pumba, and the other lionesses end up taking back pride rock, Scar falling to his death at the end of it. She and Simba had realized their friendship had become love during their reunion and after taking back pride rock they had 2 children, Kiara and Kopa. She is a stern but compassionate mother. She would tell Kiara to mind her father, but also talk to Simba about letting their daughter play on her own. When Kiara is older and about to go on her first hunt, she nuzzles her affectionately just before she goes out.
Even now, while Nala doesn't really remember who she was, she is the affectionate mother, who is also the voice of reason. She is calmer and rarely angry. However, don't mess with her people, she can be a force to be reckoned with and she's not afraid to take you down.
