Robert Rawlings was not called a superhero in his past life for no reason. In addition to having near-unlimited strength and invulnerability he had a heroic personality, too, being generally considered of the lawful good alignment and a brave, strong man in general. It was also clear that he was influential enough to be called Time magazine’s “Man of the Year”.
[break][break]Many of the traits he had as Bob Parr remain even through the shift from that reality to this one. In Wonderland, he's good-natured, chivalrous, and stoic. It may take a little while to get warmed to him but when one does they find that Bob's incredibly likeable. It’s very easy to hold a conversation with him, and once he feels that a current topic of discussion is petering out, he will smoothly transition into a different one. He always welcomes small talk and banter and is a near-professional at making funny jokes (non-hurtful ones, that is) out of what others say. He really doesn't like asking for help, but works pretty well with others, especially friends. And boy, can he make those.
[break]Protective to the point he would put his own life on the line for someone he respects or loves, Robert is considered a marvelous candidate for the protection agency because he is selfless, and also dedicated: whatever job he is assigned to or starts, he sees it through to the end. Don't get me wrong, he can sometimes become self-centered, leading him to brood over what he does or has done, especially if there is nothing much going on to keep him occupied. But once he's out in the field, on a mission, working out, or on his morning jog, he's perfectly fine and back to his chipper, sometimes wisecracking self.
[break]His smile is contagious; he tends to make people around him happy by osmosis. However on the other side of the spectrum, his frown is stern and it means business. Robert is not one to be messed with when he's in one of his more serious moods. He can be hard to convince and it might be impossible to change his mind in some circumstances. But he will listen to what you have to say.
[break]Though he’s not the absolute smartest man in Wonderland, he has great reflexes, and is able to make decisions in split seconds. It has been said that this is his greatest strength.
[break][break]
The rather extraordinary story of Robert Parr starts with a pair of really rather non-extraordinary parents. James and Grace Parr were a young couple living in the middle-class suburbs of Metroville, USA after World War II. James, also called Jim in many circles, was an army veteran and had fought on Iwo Jima; when he got back from service was when he and his High School sweetheart Grace got married. During the war she had worked as a factory girl, embodying Rosie the Riveter. But when Jim returned, she settled down to married life with him.
[break]They tried and tried to have children, but it wasn’t working out too well. They had several miscarriages before Grace managed to hold on to a baby. And so Robert Parr was the joy and pride of his parents. Blond with blue eyes, everyone said that he had his mother’s disposition and his father’s looks.
[break]To Grace and Jim, though, it soon became clear that their son had far more than it seemed. One day when playful baby Bob was crawling around, Grace left the room for a little while and came back to the sight of the couch tipped up on its end. Robert was laughing and clapping where it used to sit. This perplexed Mrs. Parr a lot. There was no one else around to move the couch, as far as she knew, and there was no way in heck that Bob had moved it himself. So she moved Robert and laid it flat again, then sat on it to see what would happen.
[break]Before long her son came crawling back over and this time he went under the couch. Grace felt herself begin to rise; first her feet lifted off the floor, and she leaned down and looked underneath. There was Robert, who had somehow managed to get the whole couch—with her on it!—off the ground and onto his shoulders. He didn’t seem to be working at all! And he was enjoying himself, giggling.
[break]Over the next few years, Jim and Grace would have to start dealing with this anomaly in their son’s genetics. Robert proved himself to be superhumanly strong. When he was five, he would work in the garage with his dad, and one day when Jim’s car jack wouldn’t work, Bob just picked the front end off the ground and held it there until the work was done. As he grew, his strength grew exponentially as well, and by the time he hit ten years old, he could pick up pretty much anything short of a oil transport truck.
[break]Grace and Jim insisted that Robert keep his unique power under wraps. They didn’t let him play little league sports, for fear that his extraordinary strength would hurt someone. This pained Bob a lot, since he adored sports, but he understood the concern and took the consequences of being born different quietly.
[break][break]Bob’s fifteenth birthday came and went, and he passed the eighth grade and was deemed ready for high school. He had grown into this huge, burly kid tgat tge upon whom the High School football team looked upon with envy. Still, however, Grace and Jim would not let Bob play any sports, despite their son’s insistence and pleading.
[break]That was also the year, 1967, that the local Metroville high school became officially integrated. Robert knew about black kids, and like his parents he supported the desegregation measures. But at first the transition was hard. Bob initially was shy toward the new kids, having no exposure to them, but bit by bit he got braver. Soon he could talk to them without a problem. He found that they were actually really nice people.
[break]One guy in particular that really made his acquaintance was Lucius Best. Lucius and Bob were fast friends, and just kind of stuck together like glue. Lucius was from the poor side of town; Bob’s family was more well-off. Still they found a common ground. They both worked hard, had generous personalities, cared about others, were willing to go the extra mile to make sure something was done right, got good grades, and excelled in athletics. But they sensed that it the similarities deeper than they knew- though they didn’t yet know what it was.
[break][break]Then, one morning, they were walking to school when—in a freak occurrence—a few guys who were moving a big grand piano into a loft let it slip and it crashed through a window, plummeting to the ground towards a woman and her baby in a stroller. Bob and Lucius were only a few meters behind- and they saw the falling, 1,000 pound instrument before anyone else. With only seconds to react, they did so simultaneously. Bob ran forward and pushing the woman down, stretched up to his full height, closed his eyes, and braced himself for impact.
[break]For some reason, he felt himself getting colder… and when the piano hit his hands, it wasn’t nearly as a shock as it should be. It was a miracle; he was expecting it to hit far faster and harder. But why? and what explained his sudden chill?
[break]Bob opened his eyes to see the piano supported on four sturdy pillars of ice, and Lucius, his hand stretched out towards them. The black kid’s mouth was agape at the fact that Bob was now lifting the piano by himself, and the white kid was in equal awe that it seemed his friend had just generated ice out of nowhere. It was in that moment that they both realized, the reason they felt they had more in common than they knew, was that they both had powers.
[break]Robert and Lucius stayed friends to the point that they even went to the same college, the local Metroville University. Also, inspired by other heroes that were doing the same and the new perspective on crime running rampant in the city, they adopted superhero identities. Robert became Mr. Incredible, a name that replaced his original moniker of Power-man when the media started dubbing him “the one and only Power-man, he’s Mr. Incredible!” Lucius became Frozone, master of ice manipulation and riding on frozen pathways via a metal disc.
[break]College was a hoot for Bob; when he wasn’t superheroing, he found himself at parties. He decided early on that he liked them a lot more than class, and so he only lasted six months before dropping out. Lucius, however, stayed in school. Though he did come to the bar with Bob sometimes, he didn’t drink near as much as Robert did. Altogether he was more devoted to College.
[break][break]Robert got a job as a pizza guy to earn a steady income, and he never lost the company money once in his three years of working there. He got mugged a couple times, but always ending putting the thugs in jail. For someone who went around lifting train cars full of coal, and saving people from bus crashes, taking care of a couple of guys was nothing to Bob.
[break]Really, after a while, he became bored in his job. The only bright spot in his working at the pizzeria was a petite, slender brunette named Helen Truax. She was a frequent customer, coming in often to grab pizza for her roommates and herself. Robert always made a point to say hello to her, and she would say a cheery hi back.
[break]He soon learned that she was a feisty one, independent and headstrong. A feminist through and through, she was determined to never settle down and prove that a woman could match up to a man.
[break]This didn’t stop Bob from trying to get her to go out with him. Time after time she refused, a smirk planted on her face that dared him to try again.
[break][break]A few months later, Bob—oh, I mean, Mr. Incredible—was out on a mission one night when he heard an odd sound from a nearby rooftop. It was like a zipping sound, mixed in with a creaking. Almost like something made of rubber was quickly stretching and unstretching. Stopping, he searched the darkness for an answer, and was rewarded with the lengthening and retracting of a form that looked distinctively female. He had never seen a power like that before; none of the other superheroines he had met had that power, so initially he was suspicious that it might be a new super-villain. Fearing the worst, he went to investigate. Silently he hopped between buildings, following the odd, stretching form to a nice spot overlooking the Metroville skyline.
[break]That was the first time he truly got a look at her. He hung back for a while to see what she would do. Which ended up being nothing at all. She was either enjoying the day, or looking for some crime to fight.
[break]For a moment, she looked over towards where he was, and he got to see her face. He was incredibly surprised when even through the domino mask(Which really doesn’t conceal identity that well, doesn’t it?) he recognized none other than Helen Truax.
[break]She obviously noticed him, too, at that moment, and chose the moment to spoke. ”Well, Mr. Incredible. Funny seeing you around here.”
[break]Bob cleared his throat and stepped out. “I could say the same of you. I don’t recall seeing you around these parts, Miss.”
[break]”It’s Elastigirl.” She turned to face him, and they took a step closer.
[break]”Well, then, Elastigirl.” Robert couldn’t help but grin dazzlingly. No wonder he had become attracted to her- she had powers, too. ”Friend or foe to supers?”
[break]”Definitely, Frie—“ All of a sudden her countenance changed, and she gasped. ”No way… Bob. Bob Parr. From the pizza place.” She took off her mask for a moment.
[break]Robert grinned in reply. “That’s me.” He pulled his off, too. “Helen Truax.”
[break]”You don’t realize that the ones you see every day are like you until you meet them like this.” Helen said in wonder.
[break][break]After that it became easier to romance her, even though not by much. She was still determined to be fiercely independent from men, lay the groundwork for others after her. And as both Bob and Helen rose in the hero scene, and they found themselves seeing more and more of each other, they slowly, but surely developed a romantic relationship. Bob finally managed to get her to go out with him. They ended up in costume, of course, but what little time they had together as just Robert and Helen was wonderful.
[break]Bob quit the pizza parlor and moved to a real office, taking calls for a newspaper. The move to a higher paying job was a welcome respite from low paychecks and having to beat criminals up. He got a new Incredi-mobile, a real cool all-inclusive hero’s tool with built-in police scanners and a storage compartment for the clothes over your superhero suit. It was so cool! He could get to more scenes, faster, and do more than ever before.
[break]The fanmails and letters of appreciation came rolling in, scores at a time. Time magazine named him man of the year. Some of his personal favorite gratitude letters, from elementary schoolers, among many others, were framed and hung in the wall of his study, where he could look at them whenever he pleased.
[break][break]For a while, things were all going his way. Two years passed; he did more and more good for the public; he helped take down some of the rougher criminals in the city. But his greatest accomplishment, in all that time, was somehow convincing Helen to marry him. As the day of the wedding fast approached, Bob felt himself getting more and more nervous. This was big-it would help decide the path of the rest of his life.
[break]Little did he know that soon it would be decided for him.
[break][break]The day of the wedding rolled around. What coincidence that all this would take place on the day of the wedding. Anyway, it started off like normal- Bob got off work at four, and while driving through Metroville got word on the police scanner that there was a chase underway. Knowing that he had time before he was supposed to be at the church, Bob told the Incredi-mobile to shift forms, and let it strip off his outer layer to reveal his blue suit underneath. In no time he had switched the autopilot back to manual and was on his way to intercept the fleeing robbers.
[break]Suddenly a figure appeared in the road right in front of him. He had to slam on his brakes to avoid running into an old woman, who begged him to help her get her cat out of the tree. Not having time to simply climb the tall oak, Robert just ripped it right out of the ground and shook it, praying that the cat would fall out and be saved. Its claws snagged the branch it was on, and it came out just in time for the robbers to be driving by. Faster than he thought possible, Bob flipped his grip on the tree over, and brought it down on the front end of the getaway car.
[break]The police thanked him, and he went on his way, perhaps to go to another crime. He hopped in the car, and promptly, he realized that there was someone else sitting in the passenger’s seat. A boy, dressed in a similar costume to him and hopping up and down in the seat, seemingly raring to go.
[break]Oh, no. No. Bob would have none of that. He didn’t take sidekicks. They were in too much danger all the time, and it was another person to take care of. Robert would rather work alone- and that was pretty much what he told the kid. Skidaddle, get out. Go home. Then, he recognized him, oddly enough: the president of his fan club. Buddy Pine. (It took him a moment to remember, but when he did, he felt accomplished somehow.)
[break]As expected, the kid fought back, and Mr. Incredible eventually just had to kick “Incredi-boy” out of the car and drive away quickly. That off his conscience, he doubled back the way he came, this time on foot, where he found a petty criminal going the contents of women’s purses. Bob pre-empted the guy and got a gun pulled on him. That wasn’t that much of a big deal; it happened to him all the time. But, before the guy could actually attempt to shoot him, a hand came around the side of a brick outcropping and smacked him square in the face.
[break]It was Hele—no, Elastigirl. They bantered for a few minutes, before she ran off and Bob was left staring at her dwindling shadow. Man, was he lucky.
[break]Anyway he handcuffed the robber to a nearby pole and called the police. They would be around in about ten minutes to pick him up. Just as he was about to hop off the building, he felt a familiar chill in the air and around came Frozone. He was busy chasing a helicopter but shouted that shouldn’t Robert should be getting ready?
[break]”I have time!” Bob called back.
[break][break]Suddenly there was a scream from the pavement nearby. Bob rushed over and followed the shaking, pointing fingers of people on the street, to the sight of a man about ready to jump from the big Muiniciberg Bank building. The instant Bob recognized the danger, the jumper launched himself off of the roof and came plummeting down.
[break]Thinking quickly-perhaps a little too quickly, Bob backed up a little bit, and giving a running start, launched himself toward the man. The timing was perfect, and they both came crashing through the glass facade of the skyscraper, landing on the ground in a vault lobby.
[break]Mr. Incredible landed on top of the jumper-pretty much-and the man groaned. Bob replied with a “with counseling, you’ll come to forgive me” (which, in hindsight, he probably should have said “if I hadn’t caught you, you would have broken everything”).
[break]But there was something…wrong about the bank. He couldn’t put his finger on it immediately, but there was something that was definitely off. Perhaps it was how everything was so quiet, except for a faint beeping coming from somewhere.
[break]Laying the man who just about committed suicide aside, Bob crept along the wall. Presently he became aware of the beeping sound starting to get faster. At the last second he leaped back as the wall was blown away to reveal Bomb Voyage carrying cash and his ever-present tool belt of explosives.
[break]A fight was about to ensue, upon the two seeing each other, and Mr. Incredible was sure to get the advantage, when a certain caped “sidekick” came zipping in again. A “sidekick” so obscure that even Bomb Voyage laughed when he flew in and introduced himself as Incredi-boy: Buddy. He did have cool boots that allowed him to fly unassisted, but that didn’t change the fact that he was in great and very real danger. Even the villain told him to go home.
[break]Bomb Voyage tried to slip out all sneaky-like, but Bob stopped him and argued with Incredi-boy at the same time. Somehow, in all the confusion, Voyage managed to sneak one of his beeper bombs on Buddy, who promptly started to run away in an attempt to prove himself. Robert didn’t even hesitate- the life of a boy was much, much more important than catching a criminal that could be apprehended later. Bob tossed Bomb Voyage aside and pursued Buddy. He didn’t manage to catch the boy until he was partly out the window, and latched on to only one of his boots. This caused “Incredi-boy to lose control and cry out in confusion and anger. The bomb was still there… Robert used all his strength and reached up, grabbed the bomb, ripped it off of the boot, and let go, falling down onto the metrorail below.
[break]Before he could recover himself, the little beacon exploded- creating an unbridgeable rift in the tracks. Bob pulled up, hoping to dear God that there wasn’t a train coming.
[break]Which… there was. Well damn. He didn’t have to think this time. He ran forward and intercepted the train, letting all of its weight ram into him at speeds that would cream a normal person. Digging his feet into the ground, he felt the train start to slow, but it wouldn’t stop in time to miss the gap. Still he pushed harder and harder, even as he was in agonizing pain from his feet skidding across the smooth concrete of the metro bridge. Finally, after a long, agonizing fifteen seconds, he felt himself- and the front end of the train- drop off the edge of the hole. It finally stopped, due to the sheer disturbance in momentum, but the first car was totally hanging free. At least few would be hurt, and no one probably died.
[break]Needless to say, he was slightly late to his wedding after that… he had to tell the police about that crazy, crazy sequence of events, all of them, and he ended up being extremely late. But it was wonderful, his bride was beautiful, and he hadn’t been happier. He was married to an incredibly attractive superheroine, and he lived the life of one himself.
[break][break]But that wasn’t going to last for long. Soon after that fateful night, Bob got stuck with a lawsuit by the guy he had saved from suicide, over the claim that he had saved a man who didn’t want to be saved. It seemed that that single act against a single hero started a public backlash against all of them, and the heroes started finding themselves under attack. I won’t go into too much detail, but in less than a year, all of the superheroes the public had formerly supported, were forced to go into hiding, adopt normal lives, lose contact with all hero friends. Bob was so lucky not to lose Helen, but with a little one on the way, no agency could separate them now. Somehow, he also kept his best friend Lucius. By now they were inseperable, even as Lucius, too, married and settled down. They invented Wednesday bowling night to spend a little time together, doing whatever.
[break]At first, they did bowl from time to time. But, as the years passed, Bob lost his job at the newspaper and went to work for an insurance company (an extremely boring job that he felt trapped in), Helen had another child, a boy, and became pregnant again, Robert gained weight, too, and the years settled down on his shoulders, Bob found himself really wishing for the old days. All the memorabilia he had collected in his office was still up in there, and his uniform hung in a nearby glass case. He often looked at it with angst. If only he could be public about using his powers again... He found himself going through the beginnings of a mid-life crisis.
[break]So his and Lucius's guys' nights out started to become listening to an old police scanner and going to thwart crimes and rescue civilians. Bob always got scolded by Helen, when she knew about what they were doing or he came home later than usual, but they never got caught otherwise.
[break]Little did he know that he was being watched by Mirage, a mysterious woman with white hair.
[break][break]One day, Bob was called into his boss, Gilbert Huph’s office at the insurance company to talk about certain business decisions he had made (i.e. secretly telling clients about loopholes in company policy). As his boring, monotone boss droned on, Bob noticed that outside the window, on the street below, a man was being mugged. Robert’s superhero nature flared up and he tried to storm out, but Mr. Huph threatened to fire him if he did. Bob really tried, he did, but when the man got away, his nature finally fully got the best of him and he punched Gilbert through six offices, putting the man in a full body cast for weeks.
[break]Needless to say, Bob was fired promptly from his job. He dreaded having to tell his family that he was now unemployed. It would be crushing to Helen… they might have to move again, and that would not be good.
[break]But then as he went into his office at home to brood about a way to just tell them, a wafer-thin tablet dropped out of his briefcase. It turned on to show a recorded image of a white-haired woman. She explained that her and her employer were interested in whipping him back up in fighting shape, and sending him on a mission. Then the curious image self-destructed.
[break]Robert was so excited that he was being offered a superhero job that he accepted without using caution. He put himself in such a risk of being ripped off. Excited as heck, he told his wife and kids over dinner that he was getting a promotion. Of course Helen was extremely happy.
[break]As the money rolled in over the next month, and Bob once again felt himself start to transform into Mr. Incredible again, just in anticipation of the excitement of going to the island Mirage described and taking on the rogue omnidroid. The name was ominous, and it all seemed fishy, but Robert couldn’t care less.
[break]Finally the day came where he got shipped out. He told his family that he was going to a conference. He put on his suit (which didn’t fit very well anymore due to the rather large gut he had gotten over the years) and was off on the sleek black plane they sent for him. They fed him wonderful exotic food. This was like heaven, the old days all over again.
[break]The plan was, to drop onto the island and do a search and destroy for the robot. It apparently knew all the comings and goings on that place, and would look for him and try to eliminate him as fast as it could.
[break]The drop itself wasn’t too bad, and went smoothly with the exception of how Bob’s belly didn’t fit through the door to the drop chute. He guard managed to get it through eventually, but it took a while.
[break]Anyway he was done with the first mission in no time. He nearly got pushed into boiling lava, pulled apart, and gored by razor-sharp claws, but he eventually managed to get it to destroy itself.
[break][break]They allowed him to go home, and the money rolled in. He used some of it to great advantage, getting in shape again, buying a new car— and going to Edna Mode to get his costume fixed. It had a hole in it, from the fight with the Omnidroid. Perhaps it had been weakened by one of his last trips out or from just sitting and rotting in his office for so long.
[break]Edna was always a feisty one- she promptly proceeded to pitch the old blue and red number (which Bob saved from the incinerator), and discuss new costumes. She loved designing for heroes- Gods, in her opinion, supermodels didn’t really cut it for her. She was wonderful at thinking things up though. Bob trusted her judgement. So he was not surprised, but definitely impressed, when she mailed him a red suit with an updated logo, and it fit perfectly.
[break]With it in tow, Bob went back to the island, this time to meet face-to-face with Mirage and the mysterious employer. The first night out of the starting gate, he was supposed to have dinner with them. Arriving a bit early, he crept up to the door to the large banquet room and peeked in. Mirage was standing near a large curtain of lava and talking with someone… Robert could not tell who. He crept in, a little closer to see who it was. All he could make out was a mess of hair pointing straight up on their head and a familiar face shape.
[break]Mirage turned towards him and Robert bolted back to the pod he came in on, sitting down just in time for her to open the door. The question still lingered in the back of his mind about who the one she was talking to was; but he was sure he’d get to meet him soon enough.
[break]…Or not. Mirage announced that he was a busy man, and had a previous engagement. Robert shook his feeling of dread off. He could understand that. It was a nice dinner, all in all; Mirage was just as beautiful as she was on the videos (though not as much so as Helen, Bob thought); and they had a nice chat. At the conclusion, she told him to meet her in costume, and in a certain conference room the next day, and that the employer would certainly be there.
[break][break]He met his engagement the next day… but his generous hosts seemed to be late. The clock was about to strike the hour when suddenly the roof peeled away, and Bob was swept up in the claws of a new, bigger Omnidroid. As the razor blades on the droid got closer to Bob’s neck, he swallowed hard. He wasn’t ready to die.
[break]But they stopped. Out of nowhere, an evil laugh, and a man with red hair that stuck straight up, and a black-and-white suit with rocket boots and an S painted on his chest emerged into view. Was that… Buddy? Bob asked him if this was actually his identity.
[break]And got rewarded by being thrown against a tree. Well, Bob supposed, that was confirmation. But the villain denied it, calling himself Syndrome. With a little more mindless blather and Omnidroid throwing-around, Bob pieced together the rest of the story: Buddy was angry about not being his sidekick, and was out for revenge. The whole bashing ceremoniously ended with Bob being thrown off a cliff. He miraculously survived, plunging into the water below, and emerged in a cave just before the water erupted into an explosion, initiated by a beacon similar to the one Bomb Voyage used all those years ago.
[break]In the cave, Robert was shocked to discover that there were several rotting corpses… of heroes. Heroes that had once been his friends. Heroes that he respected. He especially lingered on the skeleton of Gazerbeam, a pal only equalled by Lucius and Helen, of course.
[break]Suddenly in the silence of the cave, he became aware of a whirring sound. He dived quickly behind Gazerbeam the instant before it flew in and scanned where he used to be standing. It thought for a minute, gave the all clear, and flew off again.
[break]Mr. Incredible took note of the big word scrawled on the wall- Kronos. A clue perhaps. Then he left the cave and waited in the jungle until the cover of darkness, when he could sneak in undetected. It really was a breeze; Syndrome, thinking that Robert was dead, was fully concentrated on the launch of a rocket and didn’t expect an unwelcome visitor.
[break]Bob went back to the room with the lava wall where Mirage and him had dinner earlier, and taking a huge tiki head, prepared to ram through the curtain of death at full speed. However, just as he was about to do so, it opened on its own, and Mirage came walking out of the gap in the lava wall. Desperately he put the enormous tiki down and hid behind it. Mirage walked away, and the started to close… he ran through at full speed, somehow he managing to make it through before he was engulfed.
[break]He found himself in a large, cavernous room with a long walkway. As he entered the lights came on and revealed a keypad facing a gigantic screen. Under a hunch, he went to it and typed in the word ‘Kronos’, which worked like a charm and let him in to the system. It was time to see who this Syndrome really was.
[break]He went down to an option that said “supers”. Names started to flash on screen… more heroes. And more heroes. there was a timeline of omnidroid models on one side and heroes on the other. The slides flashed by, of what heroes had terminated what omnidroid… and vice versa. Bob got sick to his stomach. Finally he couldn’t take any more. He typed in hastily and desperately, “Elastigirl”. It was a big relief to see ‘Location Unknown’. Then he typed in “Frozone”. It said that his location was known, but he had not been brought to the island and was not dead. One more name. Then he typed in “Mr. Incredible”. As expected, the screen flashed ‘Terminated’.
[break]Once the system said he was dead, he didn’t have to do anything else. He was taken right to the plans. The rocket was apparently being used to transport the omnidroid to Metroville, where it would wreak havoc and then Syndrome would pretend to stop it, and win over everyone that he was a hero.
[break]But he was far from one. He was a bad man who had killed a lot of good, honest supers. He had fed on their suppression and manipulated them for a twisted, sick purpose. He had left them to rot in the jungle on the island without a second thought. He needed revenge. Bob logged off and went to leave…
[break][break]But then a beacon went off on his uniform, and chaos ensued. He felt himself getting swallowed up by black goo that stuck to him in blobs, and grew, encasing him completely… the last thing he saw was Mirage hovering over him.
[break]The next time he woke up he was hanging suspended in midair, with these magnetic energy shackle-things from a large ring. With the energy coursing through him, he knew that it had to be really hard to contain him. He struggled to break free, but before he could really try out the vulnerability of his prison, Syndrome walked in. Bob’s face grew into a sneer.
[break]And the reason he had come to visit made Bob go to his tipping point. First they interrogated him about who he had called. Bob genuinely didn’t know. Syndrome thought he was lying so he sent a shock through Robert that was excruciating. Syndrome asked again who he had called. Bob said he didn’t know.
[break]But then, a call came in from a guard saying that they had picked up a signal from a commercial aircraft requesting to land on the island. When they played the recording, Bob couldn’t contain himself. He muttered “Helen”.
[break]Syndrome- that son of a —female dog Syndrome, he seemed to catch on that this was important. He sent missiles to destroy the plane, and taunted Robert by making him listen to the whole thing.
[break]But then Bob learned that there were children on the plane, and that’s when he completely lost it, screaming and yelling at Syndrome. The villain just stood there and crossed his arms, enjoying every moment.
[break]Then the radio stopped, went fuzzy. Robert fell limp, unable to move or do anything. He only faintly heard that there was a confirmed hit. He knew it was true without having to hear the official word. His wife and children were gone. He had nothing left to live for. As the realization sunk in, an animal-like primality threatened to consume him, Syndrome, knowing that he had crushed Bob (though not completely aware of how he had) just started to walk off, laughing. As he turned to go back towards the door, Mr. Incredible reached out to lock him in his grasp… but at the last moment, Mirage pushed Syndrome out of the way and Bob got her instead.
[break]Robert threatened to break her in half, but again Syndrome just laughed, in complete ignorance of the fact he was putting the woman’s life on the line. He clearly didn’t value anyone but himself. This led to an overwhelming sadness that completely broke Bob. He dropped Mirage. Syndrome muttered that he knew the hero couldn’t do it, and strolled out confidently.
[break][break]It felt like forever, hanging there; but Bob eventually pulled himself together. He figured that he still had one child left: Jack-Jack. Knowing Helen, she would have not brought him along; and the kids had probably snuck on board, and hired a babysitter back at the house.
[break]Just as he was processing all this, the door opened again and a slender, white-haired figure walked in. Mirage. She pressed a button, and Bob dropped to the floor. She was releasing him, after he’d threatened her like he had? Then she had the gumption to walk up and try to help him up. ”There isn’t much time—“ She began, but before she could finish, he grabbed her by the throat and lifted her into the air, slowly crushing her windpipe.
[break]”No there isn’t. In fact, there’s no time at all. Why are you here? How could you possibly bring me lower? What more can you take away from me?”
[break]In her (possibly) dying breaths Mirage managed to gasp out ”Your family—survived the crash—they’re here—on the island—“
[break]Bob was taken aback. “They’re alive?” He was overjoyed. He really didn’t know what to do, but for some reason he trusted Mirage. He couldn’t help but envelop her in a bear hug.
[break][break]But then… Helen walked in. Well, that was awkward. And it proved that the slender Mirage was telling the complete truth. She tried to greet Helen with a smile, but ended up getting punched.
[break]”She was helping me to escape.” He protested, but Helen acted all haughty. Bob reeled her in by one long arm and kissed her. She protested all the while, but he could tell that she calmed down when he saw the love in his eyes. He asked where the kids were, Mirage, who had only been momentarily put aside by Helen’s punch, answered that they were probably the ones that tripped the alarm. And so Bob and Helen ran out to find the kids. They got out of the compound fine, and sprinted as fast as they could through the jungle. There was no sign of Dash and Violet until they heard some nearby explosions… and they found themselves stuck to a field of some kind, being rolled over constantly. Finally it gave, and the whole family collapsed together. It was so good to see them again, after thinking that he never would.
[break]But the reunion was short-lived, as they discovered they needed to fight. All of them sprang into action, punching guards and slamming together the hovercraft-things they were driving, making big explosions and everything. It was great. They were a fine team, that’s what happened sometimes when you were each other’s flesh and blood.
[break][break]But then Syndrome showed up on the scene. The family was taken into custody once again, put back in the energy containment units Bob had been put into earlier.
[break]By now, the rocket had made its way to Metroville and crash-landed in the city. Every news channel was broadcasting its landing. Syndrome flipped through them right in front of the Incredibles, outlining his evil plan on how he was going to paint himself as a hero in the public eye, by manipulating the very robot he had sent himself. Then he planned on selling his inventions to the public so that everyone could become a super like him, in effect reducing the population to normality again. Still chuckling and muttering devilishly, he strolled out to go hop on the jet to Metroville.
[break]The big screen showed everything as the Omnidroid came to life and started its rampage around the city, deflecting every bullet and tank-fire it encountered. Bob took the moment to formally apologize to his family. He had been so caught up in the past that he forgot to look at what he had right there- his super family, who could do anything together.
[break]He swore he would get them out- but it ended up being Violet instead. When no one was looking, she used her force field bubble to break free of the energy shackles and wandered over to the control panel, where she let them all go.
[break]Their next order of attack was to find a way out of the place. Helen mentioned that she had seen an airplane hangar on her way in. However, when they got in, there were no aircraft, just a single RV. A small batch of guards were in there, celebrating the successful launch of the Omnidroid. Needless to say, Bob beat them all up, and whistled to let his family know it was safe.
[break]They were looking for a jet. but Bob thought that one wouldn’t be fast enough. ”What’s faster than a jet?” Helen thought out loud.
[break]Dash’s voice came from ahead. ”Hey! How about a rocket?” They turned a corner, and there was one, just laying out in plain sight.
[break]”Great!…I can’t fly a rocket.” Helen said, overwhelmed.
[break]”You don’t have to. Use the coordinates from the last launch.” Violet put that problem to rest almost instantly.
[break]But Bob came to the realization that Syndrome had probably changed the pass codes by now. How were they to even launch without that information?
[break]”Say please.” A voice came over the intercom. Behind a glass window above, Mirage stood, smiling. She truly had come to be their friend.
[break][break]Minutes later, the family had broken free of the rocket, revealing Elastigirl hanging from the circle indentation, supporting he camper with her body. They swung into town in style, launching the camper onto the interstate. As usual, Bob and Helen bickered about directions, but they eventually landed by where the robot was in one piece. It was continuing its path of destruction, but there was no Syndrome in sight to control it. Apparently, the robot’s AI had gotten too smart for even its creator.
[break]Bob wanted to take the robot alone, since this was all his fault, and he didn’t want to lose his wife and kids. But Helen wouldn’t allow it. She was determined to see this through as a family.
[break]Lots of Omni-droid bashing came next. It was a party, a great big being thrown through buildings and robot-tripping party, and with Frozone joining the mix it was a great time. But it seemed that they were losing… until Robert happened to come across the remote that Syndrome had used to control the Omnidroid. Frozone and Dash tried to get it out of the grip of the robot, but they failed at first. Eventually, though, they got it. Bob, standing a little ways away, realized quickly that the only thing strong enough to take out the omnidroid was itself. So he picked up one of its claws that was laying nearby and aimed it at the robot.
[break]Someone pressed a button on the remote that started the rockets on the claw. The family didn’t notice though and kept pressing buttons. One of them switched the rockets off. Bob desperately shouted to press the button again. His muscles were getting tired, and he knew that he couldn’t hold on to the gigantic hunk of metal for much longer. But Helen insisted that they only had one shot, and they needed a closer target. She was right, as usual. As soon as she felt the time was right, she fired the claw up again and Bob let go.
[break]The claw tore right through the omnidroid, and emerged out the other side of the armor with the robot’s central processor stuck around it. Needless to say, this completely killed the omnidroid and it fell into a commercial pond, blowing up in a large explosion.
[break][break]The five supers stood there, laughing, as the crowd that had been lingering in the shadows came out and clapped. It was wonderful, finally feeling appreciated again after all those years of hiding. Bob also saw Dash and Violet’s eyes filled with pride at their first successful mission.
[break]Rick Dicker, head of the National Superheroes Association, later came to pick them up and take them home. He said that they had taken care of Syndrome, but they hadn’t captured the man himself.
[break]Helen suddenly got concerned, and called the house, but only got a series of messages from Kari, the babysitter Violet and Dash had hired. They started out calm, but got more and more disturbing. Apparently weird things were going on, Jack-Jack was acting strangely… and then finally the worst thing of all. A replacement had come. When no one had ordered a replacement at all.
[break]They pulled up to the house, and ran in the door- only to get freeze-beamed. Just as everyone had feared, it was Syndrome! He was holding a sleeping Jack-Jack. He told the family that he was taking the baby, no questions asked. Then he shot right through the roof and towards a waiting jet.
[break]Helen was hysterical. Bob was dumbstruck. They didn’t think of doing anything until finally something strange began to happen. Jack-Jack became distraught over being taken by Syndrome, and started acting up. Bob could see it from where he was standing. Apparently Jack’s latent powers had finally manifested. He was capable of shifting his body into many different forms, including (at that time at least) a demon-beast, a metal weight, and a flaming baby. Buddy nearly dropped Jack-Jack several times. Bob and Helen realized immediately that Jack would fall if this was kept up, so that finally forced them to think through a solution. Helen finally came up with throwing her. At first Bob didn’t hear, but when Jack finally did fall (after allowing Syndrome to crash into his jet) Helen made him hear. Robert used all his strength to throw his wife, and she successfully intercepted the baby. With that out of the way Bob finally looked around for something he could throw at Syndrome. His car, parked right next to him, was the closest thing on hand. So up it went, ripping the front half off of the jet.
[break]However, it was Syndrome’s cape and subsequent whole self getting caught in the jet engine that lit the plane up. The burning wreckage came falling down on them and obliterated the house, seconds after Helen and Jack-Jack landed. Fortunately, quick and clever Violet put up a force field just in time, and they were spared.
[break][break]After that the Parr family was happy, and they started spending more and more time together. Violet became more confident, Dash started getting better grades, Bob got a better job and went back to college to get a degree at long last, and they began to become a crime-fighting family. That was all Bob had ever asked for, and he was content.
[break][break]
[break]Robert didn’t know where he was, or what he was doing. He came to himself standing in a clearing, leaning against a tree. Taking stock of his surroundings, he cautiously moved forward and tried to discern why he couldn’t remember before that moment. His name was Robert Alexander Rawlings; he knew that one thing for sure. But, everything else was blank.
[break]He met a couple more people who seemed just as confused. They decided to take action and build a town for the time being, do what they knew until they could figure out how to unlock their memories.
[break]For Bob, doing what he knew was taking a job as a senior field agent at the Wonderland Protection Agency, and there he remains to this day. He likes helping others and keeping the peace. He also likes Helen Parr, although he won’t admit it to anyone. He’s come to see her as a really good friend first and attractive later, though it is gaining on him.
[break]He often wonders about the past, but not as much as now. He sees today as a fresh start and wants to make the most of it.

Personality

Backstory
He was incredibly surprised when even through the domino mask
