[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] NOT A GUPPY [attr="class","next"] Flounder ran through the streets, trying her hardest not to look directly at the sun. There was something about it that confused her. Why was it so bright all the time? Why was there no…relief? Honestly, if she had her way, she would spend all her time at the little spring that was a few miles down from the village. She liked to stick her toes in the sand and wiggle them. But right now, wiggling toes and warm waters were the furthest thing from her mind. It was a rousing game of hide and seek that had currently occupied her attention — one that they often played when they had free time. The roommates, that was. They made it a village-wide game that would last for hours. Much to the dismay of some of the older members of their little society, it had become a widely accepted tradition that they played on the weekends. “Thirty six, thirty seven—“ She could hear LIlo’s voice from the main street, echoing across the rest of the village. She had to find some place to hide and quick. Somehow, it seemed like she always ended up losing the game. It wasn’t her fault that every time someone got too close she screamed out of a sort of fear. Not a guppy! She reminded herself as she ducked behind a bush. Flounder adjusted herself, trying to get the hiding spot to sit right. She wanted it to work — she didn’t want to have to go into the forest again…it always gave her the creeps. But it was no use, “ You’ve got to be kidding me.” She mumbled, realizing that her feet stuck out from underneath the shrubbery. She stood up again and ran straight for the forest, jumping over a few branches on the ground as she peered behind her. Cory saw her too late — the girl bent over looking at something on the ground. There wasn’t anything she could do to stop herself as their bodies collided, sending both of them to the forest ground. “Oh! Jeez! Sheesh! Errr...” She clambered over the other girl, trying to figure out where her limbs stopped and the red-head’s started. “Sorry! I’m sorry! I’m really really sorry!” She repeated over and over again. Their hair was tangled in each others, a weird mix of blonde and red together that somehow looked beautiful — but extraordinarily painful. “Owwwww. Sorry. I’m sorry. Gah.”

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] ISN'T IT NEAT? [attr="class","next"] "A very merry Unbirthday to you, Ariel!" Tarrant cheered in her direction. Laughing, Ariel lifted her teacup in toast-fashion before sipping at the tea that she'd been graciously given. "Why thank you!" she cheered, taking another sip. It was much better with the sugar than without but, unsure if Tarrant would agree or not, she kept that bit to herself. She definitely didn't want to be rude or provoke any hard feelings because he was named the Mad Hatter for a reason, after all. She didn't want to be the one to make him mad. Given their conversations over the past hour, however, she could quite see he was mad without her provoking the anger from him. Bits of pieces of his sentences were strung together in a weird way, and his mannerisms tipped Ariel off that he might not be all-there. But, even with his strangeness and oddities, Tarrant was quite a nice and genuine fellow, and so Ariel had no qualms with visiting him for tea when she needed company. And although the clock on the table stayed 6:00 as it always did (though she wasn't sure why the Hatter simply didn't have it fixed), Ariel knew her time to leave was upon them. "I really must be going now, Tarrant, but thank you for a lovely tea!" she told him. After minutes of him begging her not to leave, as the fun was not yet done, she finally was able to leave the shop. It wasn't as though Ariel really wanted to leave because she highly disliked being left alone unless on some sort of adventure that kept her mind from wandering, but she had other things to do. She had a few errands she had to run for herself as a Gatherer - that is, a person who gathers things from around Wonderland that others might need, and she sells them for money or trades for something she needs. It was actually quite an interesting job, and being in charge of herself was the best part. Ariel didn't like when people told her what to do and so having a boss might impose upon her moral values and general sense, so telling herself what to do seemed like the best solution to that problem. She got things done, had a sense of accomplishment, but did it on her own time and did her own business how she pleased, so things went swimmingly. Heading toward the forest, Ariel couldn't help but continue to smirk about her outing with Tarrant. He was quite something, that was for sure. She loved the tea room that he kept. There was hardly ever any bad mouthing or negativity there. How could there be? After all, Tarrant and his friends were a riot and they kept the fun going all day and night. There were few times that Tarrant couldn't be bothered with a tea party, and those times were not particularly grand. His mind tended to get the best of him occasionally and it caused him duress, but Tarrant was not one of those people who could be easily consoled. He was a person who liked to be alone when he needed to sort things out in his mind. And maybe because he was doing the sorting, that's why he was so scattered - maybe he really did need someone else to help his mental state, but he would most always refuse this, and so Ariel stayed away when he needed to gather his thoughts. But those were rare occasions, mind you, and mostly Ariel enjoyed all of her visits to Tarrant and his tea room. "Something orange...something...orange!" Ariel hummed to herself, cheering when she found an orange flower among a couple of bushes. She plucked it quickly and put it into her satchel, in a secure pocket on the outside so that the other lost things in her bag wouldn't crush it. It was for an old woman in the village and she was particularly picky about her things - but she also gave promising rewards, and so that was why Ariel continued business with her. Shaking off the old lady and her cross words, Ariel continued in search of a few more things - something sharp, something round, blueberries, a crisp apple, and some sort of home decoration. She sighed and leaned against a tree. Why did she take on so many tasks? She didn't know, but they were all to be delivered by tomorrow morning. Knowing that evening came whenever it pleased in Wonderland, Ariel pushed herself off the tree and hurriedly went on her way. Her red hair bounced on her shoulders as she reached the outer edge of the forest near the village, having found almost all of her items. Ariel's hand was outstretched for the final item which was upon the forest floor - a round rock - when someone bumped into her. "Ouch!" she shouted instinctively, though she wasn't actually in pain. Well maybe a bit, but still. Ariel grumbled to herself as the girl continued to apologize profusely. She tried to untangle their bodies and then she realized, as the other girl tugged, that their hair had become a jumbled mess. "Oh geeze," she said, rolling her eyes before finally doing a karate-chop sort of move, though slowly, through their hair and, with a bit of pushing, they were free. Ariel massaged her scalp slightly before finally looking at the girl before her. Gee, was she pretty or what? "Uh, it's okay," she said, standing up and stretching her hand towards the girl. "It happens," Ariel finished, smiling. CORDELIA CONSTANCE FLOUNDERS[newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px;[/newclass][newclass=.next::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background: #000;[/newclass]

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] NOT A GUPPY [attr="class","next"] As the girl started to pull their hair apart, Cory was on her tip-toes, trying not to wiggle as she looked at the jumbled mess of hair, “Ow. Ow.” She repeated as the red-head’s expert fingers combed their hair into its respective sections. It was like separating red from gold, something beautiful — but even more beautiful when they weren’t connected. “Ow—“ She was about to complain again, but the last bit of their hair fell apart. Beautiful red hair. The kind that Cory imagined a red-headed angel would have. Her cheeks flushed pink. "Do I know you?"Cory immediately grabbed the girl’s outstretched arm, confused if she wanted to help her up or try and give her a hand shake. Instinct took over and Flounder began shaking her hand, more times than were necessary, but she found that she couldn’t stop. “Golly, hi.” She said, still shaking the girl’s hand in some sort of trance like state. Had she ever met her before? She was pretty sure that she would remember…but there just seemed to be something that clicked between the two of them, “I’m Cordelia. No, not that...Cory. Well, Flounder, really, most of the time.” She babbled, finally managing to get herself up from the ground to dust off her jeans. The blonde was still holding onto the girl’s hand, still shaking it…still being the very awkward little thing that she was. Finally, she paused and let go, her ears perking up as she heard the sound of feet running through the forest. It was probably her friends looking for her — after all, wasn’t that the point of hide-and-seek? “What are you—“ The footsteps got a little closer and Cory immediately felt her eyes go wide. What if they found her? She would lose the game and wouldn’t live it down for the next week! And then she would be it! Flounder hated being it…it meant wandering around Wonderland looking for everyone…all by herself…all alone. “W-w-w-w-what—“ She struggled for her words, her cheeks flushing pink again. In a flash, Cory ducked left and pressed her back against one of the larger trees in the little clearing. Still wide-eyed, she looked at Ariel before putting her finger to her lips, hoping that she would get the message.

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] ISN'T IT NEAT? [attr="class","next"] The tossled mess of hair that she struggled through was getting on Ariel's nerves, so when finally she reached the parting point and was able to separate her head from the other girl's, relief came over her like a rush of water. She felt bad about the girl's constant 'ow'ing, but unfortunately it was like ripping off a bandaid - it just had to be done. And, especially since Ariel didn't want to be bound to this stranger for the rest of her life, she most certainly had to rip away their hair, no matter the pain. But as the girl took her hand and shook it like mad, Ariel's agitations grew smaller inside her and, instead, she felt warm in her heart. "I don't believe we do," she giggled, shaking the girl's hand in turn, wondering if the blonde would ever let go. It was quite cute the way she did it in an awe-like state. Ariel knew she was pretty - I mean, she was confident in herself - but she wasn't that pretty. As she looked to the girl, though, she could sort of see, perhaps, why the girl was looking so longingly at her. It did seem that maybe they had crossed paths before. With that quirky personality, though, Ariel was sure to have remembered the girl before her and, considering that in that moment she hadn't a clue who she was, Ariel shrugged it off. "I'll go with Flounder, then," she chuckled. As Flounder kept shaking her hand, Ariel almost couldn't speak because of her desire to laugh, but she knew that that might upset the girl before her, and she didn't want that at all. "I'm Ariel - you can just call me Ariel," she said, squishing up her nose at Flounder and giving a small chuckle. Cory seemed very flustered and Ariel wished she'd known why, but her flushing pink cheeks and overall demeanor gave Ariel the impression that she was much too embarrassed to explain. As the girl began to speak, Ariel raised her eyebrows, curious about what the girl might say. When instead she finally let go of her hand and jumped behind a tree, Ariel's eyebrows raised even higher. "Uh-" she started, before Flounder gave her the sign. Hmm. Ariel winked and then hid behind a tree near the one that Flounder had jumped behind, pressing her body against the trunk of the tree. It wasn't a very comfortable pose she had to admit, and Ariel wasn't completely sure what Cory was hiding from, but she assumed she was hiding for good reason, and Ariel had no qualms about playing along. She looked over at Flounder, containing her giggles that wanted to pour out, and wondered why they'd never crossed paths before. After all, Ariel was much in the way of adventures and games, and it seemed that Flounder was too - which meant, of course, they'd be fast friends. She was sure of it.
