To Be In The Woods (Scar and Kovu)

Kovu had been an excellent, eager young mind for Scar’s molding. He followed orders and took in Rehema’s every word as though Kovu was a sponge soaking in water. He also had proactive approach, yet not too independent as to make Rehema feel threatened. But there was too much rawness in Kovu’s being to make Rehema consider him to be more than a promising protégé. He needed to have the passion chiseled away until it became as cold and calculating as he was.

Rehema had been a few moments away from closing the meeting between himself, Kovu and the ragtag team of misfits that he had collected when he heard the thud. All eyes turned on the young girl who had interrupted their meeting and had announced her presence so loudly. Rehema’s eyes narrowed as he realized that she knew Kovu and not only that, was quite intimate with him. He clenched his jaw as he gave a quick dismissal to this men.

“Who is she?” He asked Kovu, his voice calm as he regarded the liability that was now tackling his ward. His voice was now that of a disappointed parent, but it would not stay that way for long. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched as the rest of the boys wandered off into the woods, whispering to each other. If there was anything that would pull Scar’s favorite down a few pegs, they muttered, was that display right there. And they were right.

He was going to have quite the talk with Kovu when he had rid the girl away from the area. The dark cloth of night would hide any sort of damage she had made. He was only worried about her mouth and who she would tell about them. There was not much of a law in Wonderland which could either go two ways. The double edge sword allowed them to work without much interference from the people and yet it opened a can of worm with vigilante justice. If they were on the wrong end of the torches and pitchforks, Rehema and his crew would find themselves gone. Or…the crew would be gone. Rehema would escape, maybe with Kovu if it didn’t take much effort to bring him along. He was a survivor. He would thrive while others, weaker ones, would fall. He was meant more than to be anyone’s follower and he would not die with them.

Rehema had let go of Kovu’s arm as his attention went back to Kiara. “You’ve wasted a lot of my time tonight, little girl.” He went to her now, his eyes looking her over. He read people quite well and all he could see was a well meaning girl who had made a silly decision to see a boy that she liked no matter what the circumstances were. He could see that she had regretted her decision and that she was upset by Kovu’s rejection. But Kovu had done well. He needed to learn now that love was for children and he wasn’t a child anymore. Why didn’t Kovu let Rehema know from the beginning that there was this wild card in the midst? Oh he hoped for Kovu’s sake that the girl was not a goody goody. Then he would have to break off the relationship between the two. He would not allow her to lure Kovu to the “good side” and have his potential wasted as he followed the rules.

“How do you propose on paying that back?” Rehema inquired. He turned his head to look at Kovu and tilted his head as though to say ‘come here’. Maybe the visual would let Kiara know that Kovu was on Rehema’s side first and on her side second. He would have moved this conversation back to his cave but he didn’t want to risk Kiara knowing where his base of operations took place. Instead they were standing in this strange woods were any sort of thing could creep up on them. All he needed to do would be to outrun Kiara…
