Location: The Kingdom By The Sea Eric just stood back and shook his head as every servant in the palace went crazy preparing it for the big visit. It was far too amusing. One would think they were soldiers preparing for battle. The visit from from Prince Charming and his royal parents. They were old friends of Eric and his parents and they never seemed to care what the place looked like when they arrived. The kings and queens had a fancy dinner and discussed royal stuff and Eric and Charming went out to find something to do... usually sailing. True they were supposed to be at the fancy dinners, but by now everyone just gave up on getting them to come to those things. Eric finally decided to go outside. The guests would be arriving soon anyway, and Eric would be a lousy co-host if he didn't greet them. He stepped out to see the King and Queen already waiting. His father gave him a raised eyebrow. "You could have dressed a bit more appropriately to greet them, son," he said. "I don't know... like perhaps a prince?""Father, relax," chuckled Eric, looking down at his ordinary white shirt, blue pants, and black boots. "Even if I did dress up, Charming and I would be in our sailing clothes five minutes after he gets here." His father just made a "Hmmm" sound and turned back to meet the carriage. His mother sneaked him a smile and whispered for the two to be careful out there that day. She smiled warmly at his mother and nodded. After all, what could happen out on the bottomless blue? [googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] IT WAS MANY AND MANY A YEAR AGO [attr="class","next"]“ Kit don’t sit like that, shoulders back, son,” His mother’s voice rang out as they approached the great castle in their carriage. She was unwell, Kit could tell by the dark circles under her eyes. He wondered if she had been sleeping. His father…well, his father seemed oblivious, ranting on about how it would be good for them to see their old friends again and to rekindle the alliance that they had already cemented over their years of friendship. Kit was excited, too. At least, excited to see Eric. He and Eric had become steadfast friends over the years, something that he had always cherished. While their parents talked business, they were able to get out and explore and talk like normal, ordinary people. Sometimes that was the nice thing about having other friends that were Princes – He didn’t for one moment have to pretend that he was anything else around Eric. His hand rested on the sheath that was tucked away on his belt. He wore it always under his father’s wishes, along with the stiff jacket that his father made him wear. White with a red sash, per the usual colors of the kingdom. Kit didn’t understand what the big deal was after all, it wasn’t a ceremonious occasion…it was a meeting between old friends. That was the reason that underneath his coat was a loose fitting white shirt and a pair of his sailing trousers. It would be easy for him to pull them off when the rushed to the docks as he assumed they would. After all, it was tradition for the boys to explore the high seas while their parents discussed business. That was the way it had always been. As the carriage slowed to a stop in front of the castle, Kit was the first one to bound out, helping his mother out next and finally followed by his father. It was a royal greeting, complete with all the servants laid out in rows and the royal family in the middle. Kit grinned when he saw them — they were nearly like a second family, “Your majesties.” Kit said, sweeping down into a low bow for the King and Queen before making a b-line for Eric on the outskirts. He stuck out his hand with a delightful grin, “Eric, how have you been my dear friend?” It was good to be back, it most certainly was.

Eric beamed when Charming and his parents arrived. His shipmates were quite fun, but he knew Charming would bring real entertainment. Both of them had a lot in common after all. They were both Princes who got a bit bored with the royal life and sought to go out and enjoy what life had to offer. And fortunately for Eric, Charming liked sailing as well. It was also fortunate that they had yet to explore some of the areas near port, so there were plenty of new adventures to have that day. Eric gave the usual respectful greetings to Charming's parents, but then quickly focused on his friend. He grabbed the prince's hand, but then hugged him and laughed. "I've been... well bored... well until now!" he chuckled. "How about you? I hear that Ball is coming up soon. Looking forward to picking out Ms. Right?" Eric was being a tad sarcastic. He didn't envy Charming's task one bit. He didn't believe that finding one's true love was like picking which cake you wanted to get a slice from at a banquet. He believed that true love... well just happened. Once their respective parents went on to do what kings and queens did, Eric made sure Charming was pulled away. "Sooo... what say we hit the high seas?" he said. "Who knows what we'll find this time? Some whales, perhaps. Maybe buried treasure. Who knows, we might even spot a mermaid." Eric chuckled about that. He loved the stories his crew told of Triton and the merfolk. Some made them sound like they were actually true. KIT THADDEUS PRINCETON

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] IT WAS MANY AND MANY A YEAR AGO [attr="class","next"] Kit wasn’t surprised when Eric hugged him. Almost immediately, he used his hand to clap it over Eric’s back in familiar greeting. Eric was one of his oldest friends and he wasn’t like the other princes. They seemed to understand each other. They knew there was more out there than just what their parents were showing them. Unfortunately for Kit, he also knew that his mother was very sick and soon the kingdom would fall on his shoulders, which meant he needed to start getting his affairs in order. This would be one of his last leisure trips before his mother could no longer travel — then it was all work for Prince Kit. “Boredom never did us any good, did it?” Kit said with a grin as he rolled his shoulder back, feeling rather constrained by the outfit his parents had insisted that he wear. He wouldn’t complain, though. The mention of the ball had his eyes immediately on the back of his mother’s head. The woman was deep in conversation with Eric’s mother. “I suppose I'm looking forward to pick out a Princess worthy of Mother’s approval.” He interjected, his hands settling on the handle of his sword as he looked back at Eric. His parents had no need to match him up yet, though Kit was sure they had probably tried to pair him off with the eligible bachelorettes of the countries. “I think they’re hoping I’ll settle down with a nice princess so they can stop worrying about me,” He answered honestly. Their parents seemed to settle into their normal waves of conversation, leaving the boys the opportunity to slip away. They walked toward the edge of the sea where Kit already knew they were headed. It was tradition after all. “The high seas it is.” Kit said, unbuttoning the jacket that was on his shoulders and sliding it off. It felt better to be in just the undershirt that flowed — proper sailing attire. He had learned well from Eric over the years, “A mermaid or two.” Charming grinned as he hopped over the stone fence that separated the dock from the castles’ grounds, “I’ve always wondered about Mermaids.” He said with a shrug as he walked onto the wood of the dock, looking at Eric’s ship that was waiting on the water. It was a beautiful thing — it really was.

Eric nodded as Charming spoke of how boredom never did them any good. Eric escaped boredom as often as possible, and again that usually meant hitting the high seas. "Well I hope you're ready for excitement then," he said. "What say we check out one of those islands a few fathoms west? I heard some of them haven't been visited by humans in decades, some even centuries."
Eric patted Charming on the the shoulder as he spoke of picking the proper Princess. Again, he did not envy him one bit. "I really hope you find someone who will be your true love," he said. "And I am really glad mother and father aren't throwing something like that for me. I've always felt that if I ever find the right girl, the whole thing is going to happen out of the blue, like a flash of lightning."Eric shrugged as Charming said he had always wondered about mermaids. Eric had heard stories about them so often that he was honestly getting bored with the idea of them. He certainly didn't believe in them. "Well all you have to do is ask my crew today and they'll tell you everything you need to know," he said. "That's all some of them talk about- Triton and his Sea Kingdom and all that. You'll wish you hadn't asked them after a while."A Bit Later... The ship was ready to set sail. Eric had of course brought Max along too, and the dog was barking happily to see Charming. The crew were happy to see him as well. They had accepted him as one of the gang some time back. "Everything set, then let's set sail for... Quick Death Island!!" He said this in a scary voice, but then chuckled. "Nah, I made that up. I don't even know if half those islands have names."KIT THADDEUS PRINCETON

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] IT WAS MANY AND MANY A YEAR AGO [attr="class","next"] “I’ve rather hoped that myself,” Charming returned when Eric mentioned meeting his true love. He had always thought that that would be the way that it would happen. But mother was growing increasingly ill by the days and his father was anxious to have the kingdom in a place of stability. He would do whatever he could to secure stability for their sakes. It was, after all, his duty as Prince. A little while later, he had heard all about the mermaids of the blue lagoon and their wondrously enchanting powers. They seemed like women that Charming should avoid, especially given that he was to be wed when he returned. But he couldn’t help his own curiosity. There was something about the unknown and unexplored that had always called to him. Max – Eric’s dog bounded by at that moment, breaking him out of his own thoughts like glass shattering. It was back to reality. Charming always loved having Max around — he provided a good comic relief for the rest of the crew. Folding his arms as he stood at the front of the ship, Charming looked out over the high seas that were in front of them. They were in for an adventure, he could practically feel it. “Quick death—“ Kit laughed when Eric did before shaking his head, “I wouldn’t be surprised. There are pirates out there who would sooner name their islands that to avoid having their treasure taken.” He said, placing his hand on the sword that was hanging on his belt by its hilt. He was prepared for the worst, although he was more than certain that they wouldn’t be running into any pirates during their trip. “What say you we run into some pirates.” Kit said with a laugh as he grabbed hold of the rope that the crew was using to hoist the first sail. He gave it quick and secure tugs in the right direction as the billowing white sail took hold of the sky’s wind and they jolted forward. The wind rushed through his hair and he was suddenly very thankful for the trip. It would do him good to get away from everything for a while. “I’ve heard there’s a run of treasure that runs the border between Neverland and here. We should head that way.”

Eric did wish Kit the best. The man had a good heart and deserved the right girl too. Here was hoping both would find that perfect girl from out of the blue. However, both would worry about that later. Today was a day to have fun! "I think we should save talk of finding true love for after the trip," he said. "I have a million stories to tell you since your last visit!"On the ship, Eric at least didn't look uneasy when Kit spoke of pirates. There was good reason behind it. While the seas around him had great legends of pirates, they hadn't been around for some time due to the effectiveness of his father's navy. "As fun as running into bloodthirsty pirates goes, old friend, we have about as much of a chance of running into those as we do Ursula the Sea Witch," he said. Another nifty little story told by his shipmates. Given what they said about her, he was glad that there was hardly a chance the two would ever encounter one another. The ship sat sail and Eric tried to get Kit to join in some of the crew's classic songs. Meanwhile, not far away, a beautiful but eerie ship that seemed to shimmer in the sun sailed as well. The flag bared an image of a golden skull... indicating that the ship belonged to the greediest pirate in existence... Captain Goldbeard. Looking through his golden telescope, he spotted Eric's ship. "Well grasp me galleons!" he said. "A royal ship... and it's headin' toward the Diablo Islands... and so are we..." KIT THADDEUS PRINCETON

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] IT WAS MANY AND MANY A YEAR AGO [attr="class","next"] Kit found himself laughing at Eric’s sentiments. He was right, this was not the proper time to be discussing their prospective matches. It was a time for both of the Princes to enjoy their journey together and not worry about what was to come. There was, after all, no telling how many more adventures they would have with one another before wives tied them down to their respective kingdoms. He raised his hand with Eric mentioned the sea-witch, “I’ve heard stories about her. Nasty little thing.” Kit grabbed one of the ropes and helped the mates of the ship turn the sails to point them in the right direction. “I heard she stole the king of the merpeople’s Triton, making her the most powerful of all the sea-beings!” It was all sailor gossip — silly talk that passed from one ship to another, but it did well to pass the time while they were onboard. The journey was long, but with a mixture of songs, stories and grog, the men managed to keep busy. It wasn’t until Kit saw one of the islands up ahead that he ran to the side of the boat, “Eric, give me the scope, I think we’ve got land up ahead!” He shouted, pointing to the horizon where a small patch of land had risen up amongst the waters. He assumed that these were a part of the string of Diablo Islands that ran between Neverland and their kingdoms. A dangerous place for two princes — but the perfect place for an adventure. “Blast—” Kit held his hand up to his eyes, trying to block out the sunlight as he saw something else on the horizon. “I think something must be in the water…looks like we’ve company! Recognize the flag?”

Eric chuckled when Kit said that had heard stories about Ursula, but the chuckle was mostly for him calling her "little." "Oh believe me," he said. "From everything my crew has told me, she's far from little. And I seriously doubt she did that. Otherwise these would really be some dangerous seas with her in control." Eric of course laughed about the whole thing. Mermaids... Sea Witches... all folklore to entertain the people on the ship. Eric then handed Kit his personal scope and looked out. Eric wasn't surprised that they were near land. Despite being a bit further out than they needed to be, he still knew the area well. He then borrowed a scope from one of the crew mates to look himself. Yes he didn't know the names of all the islands around, but he knew these... the Diablo Islands... places with legends of their own, and not pleasant ones either. Still, Eric had no plans to back down. Eric was blinded as well by the approaching ship. He tried his best to look at it to answer Kit's question. He was finally able to when he made out the golden skull on the flag. "No way... it can't be... I thought HE was a myth too," said Eric. "Captain Goldbeard, the greediest pirate who ever lived." He was about to play it wise and order his crew members to turn, but the shimmering boat and reflected sun had blinded them as well. "They've spotted us!" growled Goldbeard. "We can't let'em escape!" [googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] IT WAS MANY AND MANY A YEAR AGO [attr="class","next"]Kit immediately shook his head. This was certainly turning out to be more of an adventure than he had bargained for. Talk of sea-witches and mermaids…princesses and pirates! It was as if they had stepped into an alternate reality of sorts in which they were princes of the sea instead of their respected kingdoms. He reached up and used the back of his sleeve to wipe the beading sweat from his brow. “Goldbeard? It can’t be!” The boat on the other side of the ocean seemed to speed up, Kit could see the deployment of the sails from their vantage point. It wasn’t looking good for them. “Just a legend wouldn’t have canons…” He said as he heard the sound of an explosive. It seemed to be a warning shot, as there was no way they could have hit them from still so far off. The sun was in their way, causing the men to back down from the side of the boat. They couldn’t see properly and it was making it hard to pinpoint exactly where the pirates and their ship were. When a cloud came through the skin, momentarily blocking the sun, Kit took the opportunity to get their bearings. “It looks likes they’re coming this way!” He said when he was finally able to see into the horizon. The boat had turned and was headed in their direction. “If we can get to shore before they get here, we have a better chance of besting them,” Kit reasoned as he turned to look at Eric. They weren’t men of the sea…perhaps Eric was, but Kit was far more versed in sword play and land fighting. They would need to get on equal footing if they were to beat the pirates. "What do you say, Eric? Ready for an adventure? This is more than we bargained for!"

Kit was right. Myths and legends didn't have real canons. And a myth or legend wasn't coming at them and quickly. Eric could fight and was ready to do so. He loved ship and his crew, and he would do anything to protect them. Good thing he kept some swords handy down below. He then turned to Kit, who suggested that they go to one of the islands. It was a better idea. It was more room to challenge them anyway. "Alright, we'll do that!" he said. He then turned to the man at the mast. "Move us to the nearest island and quickly!""Aye aye captain!" replied the crew member. Meanwhile back on Goldbeard's ship, he watched as the ship moved toward the nearest island. He gave a wicked laugh. "Should we stop them, Captain?" asked his first match. Goldbeard slapped him to the ground. "Of course not, you stupid squid!" he said. "They're heading for Imps Island, the worst of the islands in these seas. If we don't get them... Old Slyvester will........" He then turned to his crew. "Give chase, mates, but allow them to reach the island. This will be far too easy!" He then gave another laugh. KIT THADDEUS PRINCETON

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] IT WAS MANY AND MANY A YEAR AGO [attr="class","next"] Kit watched as the horizon island got closer. The hustle and bustle of the crew, however, made him refocus his attention. Goldbeard’s ship was quickly gaining on them, but they hadn’t fired since the last bout of cannon-shots. “They’re coming in fast from the port side!” He helped the men pull the sails taught, causing the ship to take a hard turn toward the island. They were coming in fast — it looked like the pirates were trying to drive them into the land, but Kit couldn’t understand why. If they were true pirates, they would have wanted to take them on the sea. As the choppy seas died down the closer they got, the men pulled the boat to a stop and lowered anchor. Goldbeard’s ship seemed to be waiting for something — they didn’t get close enough to advance, but turned so they could begin to circle. “This seems…” But Kit couldn’t finish his sentence, his thoughts were already on other things. They needed swords. Ducking under the deck, he grabbed a few and came back topside. “What’s the plan, Eric? We going to go engage Goldbeard or wait for him to come land-side with us?” He asked as he threw one of the swords in his friend’s direction.

Eric felt something was wrong about this whole thing. Goldbeard seemed to be easing up on them... as if he wanted them to make it to the island. Still, if they let him and his crew board the ship, they could be outnumbered with a very limited fighting area. It seemed to be a rock and a hard place. He sighed and looked at Kit. "We have no choice," he said. "We'll have to dock on the island. This whole thing stinks of a trap, but a broader fighting are is our best bet. You and I both are skilled with swords, and so is my crew. We'll give those pirates a good fight."Once docked, Eric made his way off the ship and onto the island. He got a nasty vibe from it. He had a feeling that there was more alive here than himself, Kit, his crew, and their new enemies. "Alright, men, be careful," he ordered. "Don't stray too far from this spot. I don't want anyone getting lost on..." He then noticed an old wooden sign with little devils painted on it. "Imps Island. Well that doesn't sound pleasant." He then turned and watched as Goldbeard departed from his ship to meet them. "I'll give ya two choices, mateys!" he said. "Surrender to me or suffer the perils of this island!" KIT THADDEUS PRINCETON
