A Summer Festival Planning

GO WEST, YOUNG MAN

[attr="class","next"]Kit sat at his desk, staring down at some of the architectural plans that were before him. A few more buildings that needed to be put up in the coming months — at least before the winter season set in. He wasn’t sure how time passed here in Wonderland, but he wasn’t going to chance it. They needed a place to store food, store supplies and most importantly keep warm. Kit was already worried that if the frost was too bad they would

“Mr. Princeton?” The petite blonde stood in the doorway smiling at him, a rose in her hands. She looked giddy, like a girl who had just been kissed. He found the tiniest of smiles on his lips at the thought of his secretary’s happiness. Kit looked at her and raised his eyebrows as if prompting her to say more, “There’a a man here to see you. Didn’t say what for. I’m terribly sorry to disturb you, I know you’re busy and—”

“Don’t worry, don’t worry.” Kit said as he stood, pulling on the jacket that was draped around the back of his chair. He slid his arms through and nodded toward the door, “Lead the way.” They walked down the short hallway to the end of the office and found himself standing face-to-face with a man standing in the doorway — a man he very much recognized.

“Ah Mr. Burton, I was wondering when I would see you next. You've got my secretary all out of sorts,” He held out his hand in order to shake the man’s hand. He gave his secretary a faint smile to let her know that he was only kidding, “What brings you to my neck of the woods?” Kit turned and began to lead the man back to his office, “Rather — my neck of the village,” He corrected.

[attr="class","next"]As Kit led Jack back to his office, the man was already off to the races describing his plans. They entered the room and Kit immediately went for the desk on the other side of the room, thinking about what the man was suggesting, “A festival?” He had to say, the idea was one that struck him as absurd initially. Could they really celebrate having lost their memories? Still, Kit had to admit that he had a good point, “Perhaps—” He sat down on the edge of his desk, picking up the apple that he had been using as a paperweight and tossed it into the air as he looked at Jack, “Perhaps you're right.” He smiled brightly as he thought about the idea.

They would like that. Getting their mind off of the whole ordeal would be good for them He took a bite of the apple before putting it down back on the desk and leaning forward, “It would be a good chance to increase business to the local vendors that have started to pop up. Yes.” He nodded along as he looked at the sort of jumbled pictures that the man was showing him. They certainly were colorful, weren’t they? He picked one up and held it to the light so he could get a better look.

“Have you talked to the Wonderland powers that be about this?” Kit asked, referring to the women of the castle. He wasn’t quite sure where he stood with them. He was the leader of the village, but they were the leaders of the kingdom and that caused a certain amount of tension between the lot of them. No, Kit wasn’t sure that he wanted to be in charge of the whole thing, but he at least wanted leaders that were easy and kind to communicate — after all, he thought, kindness certainly went a long way.

[attr="class","next"] “Really just a chance to get everyone involved, I think.” Kit said as he listened to Jack describe the ways in which they could set up for the event. It would be easy as long as long as they had the support from the whole village — which shouldn’t be hard, considering it seemed like something everyone would wish to be a part of.

Kit rather envied the man in front of him — the castle made him uneasy for some reason. It felt like a place that he belonged, but the women there…the queen especially. He furrowed his brow and then offered Jack a reassuring smile, “Always best to go through them first, I’d say.” He flipped through a few more of the drawings, feeling rather proud of Jack Burton. He seemed to be a fine man indeed.

“How did you come up with this idea, anyway?” Kit asked, finally as he put the rest of the drawings down on his desk and folded his hands. He was grinning, rather excited about the prospect of the festival. Seeing the people of the village happy seemed to be one of his biggest pleasantries in life.
