And often at night, when the royal palace was filled with sleeping sounds of silence, the two would disappear into the ballroom and Elsa would let her magic go, creating a snowy playground for the two to play in. however, this was sort lived for one night Anna decided that she would jump down from the high snow slopes that Elsa had created, but it was too quick for Elsa to keep up and in an attempt to stop her from meeting the floor, she used her magic to create another slope but it was too late, Elsa had hit Anna accidently with her ice powers. She calls for her parents, and they all ride into the night to seek aid from legendary trolls, a shaman named Pabbie, who then stabilizes Anna’s condition due to it only affecting her head. But in order to be safe, Pabbie removes Anna’s knowledge and memories of magic, and Elsa is left in despair, she can no longer show her powers to Anna, nor could they play anymore during their light night snow. Pabbie takes the time to explain the true strength of Elsa's abilities, telling her that her power will only grow and there's not only beauty in it, but danger, and that she must learn to control them at all cost, or fear will be her enemy. While the King promises to help Elsa control her powers, the incident leaves Elsa traumatized by them. As a result, the King and Queen order the gates to be locked for Elsa and Anna's safety.

Not only were the gates locked, but Elsa forcibly and willingly spends the rest of her life distanced from other people, including her sister, trying to keep her powers from growing out of control and harming those she cares about. Even so, the persistent Anna tries time and time again to spend some quality time with her sister, but fails at every turn. But throughout the years, Elsa’s only true human contact was with her parents, the people who calmly tried to help Elsa gain control of her abilities, teaching her to remain calm, and to help further, her father bestowed upon her a pair of gloves, telling her to “conceal it, don’t feel it, don’t let it show”, and this of course made life easier but still filled heavily with fear. And despite better control, Elsa still refuses to contact Anna, truly terrified of harming her yet again. One day, during Anna and Elsa's teenage years, their parents depart on a two week trip and though Elsa is torn about their parting, she bids them farewell as they were off. However, this is her last encounter with them, as the parents die when a massive wave capsizes their ship, causing them to drown. The funeral, only Anna was the one to attend out of the two sisters, Elsa was too afraid to leave her room, scared that her powers would hurt someone due to her emotions staying out of control. She mourned the loss of her parents alone and afraid, and because of this her powers go out of control and her room is left frozen.

Three years later, at the age of twenty one, Elsa is chosen to be crowned queen, and to celebrate all royalty from far and wide were invited for festivities. Though everyone is excited, Elsa is beyond reluctant, fearful the major contact with the world will lead to the discovery of her powers. During the entire day, she tries to conceal her emotions, but the fear of being around so many people brings this to be difficult. And as the ceremony takes place, Elsa’s about to be crowned, she must wield the traditional scepter and globus cruciger, but she must do it without her gloves, and she nearly reveals her abilities, but just as she is crowned, she quickly returns her hands safely within the gloves. After the coronation, the festivities commence and the two sisters are reunited after years, and an awkward conversation falls between them. Though their conversations has an awkward tint to it, it is obvious that the two are happy to see each other, but when Anna comes up with the idea of always having this quality time frequently, the moments shatters and she breaks the younger sisters heard and prompts her to leave.

Meanwhile, Elsa continues on with the party, meeting the visiting dignitaries and talking with them for a while before Anna returns, but with Prince Hans by her side. After a small introduction, the two announce their newfound engagement, and ask for Elsa's blessing upon the marriage. Elsa is baffled by the shocking news, but Anna and Hans couldn't appear more excited, going on to ramble about the wedding arrangements. Elsa ceases the sudden rambling by denying such marriage, much to Anna's disappointment. Becoming frustrated, Elsa outright forbids Anna of marrying someone she just met, indirectly telling the princess she knows nothing about true love, this of course starts an arugument between the two sisters and Elsa orders the party to stop and the gates to be closed. This leaves Anna heartbroken and tries to confront her sister, telling her she hates living the life imprisoned within the castle, and with that…Elsa tells her she can leave if she wants to be happy. Everything turns for the worse, and Elsa’s powers are revealed and it terrifies everyone. In a heap of fear, Elsa flees the scene and the castle, leaving the kingdom with no queen.

Unbeknownst to Queen Elsa of the search party that Anna is conducting on her own, she arrives at the North Mountain, and she's still dreadfully downhearted by all that's just happened. The loss of her sister, the abandoning of her kingdom and subjects, everyone fearing her, and the pain of her past consuming her now that the public saw her as a demon for her winter magic. However, oblivious to the storm she caused, she starts to embrace her powers now that she is alone, letting them roam free and finally unleashing the beauty aspect that Pabbie told her about years ago, and in turn, this makes the new queen happier than she's ever been in years. Now that she's living without fear of harming those she cares about, Elsa has ultimate control over her abilities and creates herself an ice palace and her signature ice gown out of her magic, establishing herself as the Snow Queen and officially abandoning her place as queen of Arendelle, declaring she's never returning to her kingdom now that she's finally happy and completely free to be who she is. During this time away, she recreates the snow man that she and her sister had created a long time ago, but with her abilities she was able to not only recreate Olaf, but bring him to live.

Days have passed, and Elsa lives her life just as she wanted, free and without fear, peaceful within her own solitude but that is until Anna shows up. But Elsa wants nothing to do with going back and tells Anna to return home, but Elsa refuses wanting Anna to return and be happy, but Anna refuses to listen just as Olaf arrives, leaving Elsa with a feeling of her childhood. It was enough to bring a smile to the queen's face until the memory of nearly killing Anna haunts her again, prompting Elsa to turn away, and bidding farewell to her sister. Anna accidentally increases the discomfort and stress upon mentioning the kingdom's in danger, Elsa being horrified to learn that she had placed a curse upon it. Overcome by fear and guilt, Elsa unleashes her powers by accident once again, but this time, she inadvertently hits Anna in her heart. While Anna still insists she come back with them, telling her she won't leave any other way; Elsa is forced to create a gruesome snow beast known as Marshmallow, who throws the trio out of the palace. After this, Marshmallow becomes Elsa’s bodyguard, immediately leaps into action when Hans and his soldiers arrive, and Elsa, upon hearing the commotion, flees inside and tries to hide. As Marshmallow defends against the attack, two soldiers sneak past him and enter, searching for Elsa in an attempt to kill her as per the Duke's orders, defying Hans' orders to not harm her. They soon corner her, and Elsa is fearful at first, but eventually, after becoming very provoked, uses her abilities against the two, willingly, and comes close to killing them, completely furious at the harm they've brought upon her and her home, as well as destroying her vow to keep her powers from harming others. A battle between everyone begins and Elsa almost killing two men is stopped by Hans before an arrow is shot at Elsa. But the arrow is deflected by Hans and instead hits the chandelier which falls to the earth and as she tries to escape she is knocked out and imprisoned by the soldiers and Hans.

During her imprisonment, she is left alone and trapped, no way of escaping. Until Hans returns and tells her to bring back summer but she refuses, she doesn’t know how. But as Elsa asks about Anna, she is told that she hasn’t returned and Elsa is concerned. She slowly regains her abilities, and breaks free, fleeing the castle but Hans follows, wanting to kill the woman to bring back summer. Elsa continues to run away before being found by Hans, he reveals that Anna is dead, that she had killed her own sister. And because of this news she falls to the ground, the blizzard that had started stopped and Hans slowly approaches, his sword raised for the kill but Anna stops him, freezing in front of Anna and stopping the blade from killing Anna. Elsa realizes what has happened and pleads for Anna to return to her, but all hope is lost. However, Anna's sacrifice to save Elsa qualifies as an act of true love, and before long, the princess' frozen body begins to thaw, resulting in her revival. Elsa is overwhelmingly joyous and relieved to see Anna alive and well, and is touched at how she risked her life to save her. Anna responds by telling Elsa she loves her, and Olaf figures out that the act of true love was Anna's sacrifice, and that's what thawed her heart. These words from the snowman give Elsa the realization that the curse can be lifted, and that the warmth of love is the key to doing so. With this revelation, Elsa is able to use this and focuses herself, removing the icy curse from Arendelle and bringing summer back to the kingdom.

After this, Anna and Elsa’s bond is once again rekindled and Elsa is free from her curse, she is no longer a monster in the eyes of herself and others. Elsa sends everyone on their way home, Hans is taken away to be deported back to his family. Elsa declares to Anna that they will never close the castle gates again now that she is finally accepted and makes a pair of ice skates for Anna, and the two sisters join in the celebration of harmony, having the fun they used to share together at long last
