Shandor rarely went to the village. For the most part, he had what he wanted in his large home in the Woods. Plus, Shandor was not a big fan of people. True he was human, but he despised what he felt the human race had become- cold, selfish, barbaric... dangerous. He didn't trust them, and he certainly didn't want them around his large, feline pets. He felt they were far more dangerous than panthers and pumas. Jungle cats merely did what nature intended for them to do. Humans violated it.
Shandor was in the village because he was looking for a certain book. The girl at the shop, Belle, seemed friendly enough, but he still didn't say much to her in the transaction. He had to say that he did admire how she treated her cat. The cat seemed more like a companion than a mere pet, much like his cats were to him. Nevertheless, he wanted to conduct business and nothing more. He bought the book and made his way out.
Once outside, he looked around at what was going on. One man was exiting a tavern drunk and saying some rather foul words. Two women were arguing outside a clothing shop over a blouse. Some child was crying because his mother wouldn't buy him an ice cream cone. Pathetic, the whole lot of them were pathetic. Shandor turned and made his way to the village exit.

The village was a place where Mason liked to go around and get to know people, from a distance. He enjoyed surveying the people of the two, picking out the weak ones with his eyes and knowing where people spent the majority of their day. He had already chosen a victim as of late... a young dark haired girl named Violet. He didn't see her around today, which sort of made his mood sink a little. Who would he toy with now?
That was when he saw him. A man who sparked a familiar tone in his memory. He watched him silently for a moment, casually leaning against the wall of some building nearby. As the man started to leave town, Mason quickly stepped up beside him and tapped him on the shoulder. "Excuse me, sir," his voice was sweet and low, like hot sugary syrup, "I've been trying to find a book to read... can I ask what you recommend? You seem a man of sophistication, no?" he spoke with a gentle smile.

Shandor wasn't expecting anyone to talk to him. He never expected anyone to talk to him. He gave people the cold shoulder, and he knew in return that he wasn't very popular. That is the way he wanted it. He only wanted to be loved by his pets. They should true loyalty. They would never turn on him... never betray him. They were capable of the many sins that humans were. Why be loved by a species who was capable of so much wrong.
Then... there was the tap on his shoulder. Shandor was admittedly surprised, but he'd be damned if he showed it or any other considerable extent of emotion. He slowly turned and looked at the one who stepped on is shoulder. The man... looked familiar. Why he did, Shandor had no clue. He shouldn't have recognized anyone in the village from anywhere. But something told him that he did know this man from somewhere... and the man could be trouble. He ignored the idea though. It was a foolish assumption.
"I am a... sophisticated man," he said. "However, I don't see how any book I find enjoyment in could... appeal to one like you." Shandor could have been wrong, but he didn't see this guy as one who shared his taste in literature.

"Really?" Mason had asked for a reason, had he not? This meant he was interested in at least hearing some recommendations. However, the truth was, Mason didn't really care about the recommendation. He just wanted to talk to this guy until he could figure out if he did indeed know him in another life. Well, either way he probably wouldn't get many clues. "Well, If you don't want to give the recommendation, that's fine. However, I am curious to see what book you have there?" he gestured to the book in the mans grasp, may as well get the conversation going a little longer.

What really annoyed Shandor was that for some reason, he was suddenly interested in actually talking to this annoying fellow. And why was that? Why would he have anything to do with this man? Oddly enough, the answer was clear... he felt he knew the fellow. Not only that, he felt the fellow was close to him at one time, like a confidant of sorts. But how could that be? Shandor despised most other humans. He couldn't even fathom the idea of befriending one, let alone forming any kind of close bond. Such bonds were reserved for his beloved cats.
When asked what book he had, Shandor stared at the man coldly for a moment. With a bit of reluctance, he eventually revealed the book cover. What hard would it do anyway? It was a book on rare jungle cat breeds in Wonderland. This was of course Shandor's primary choice of study. He was fascinated with jungle cats. He course had a number of his own as pets.
"Now..." he said. "Is there... anything else you wish to... speak to me about?" He was partially hoping the guy would leave him alone, but at the same time, he was hoping the guy would continue to bother him so that he could figure out why he felt there was some odd bond between the two.

Mason was sure he was starting to wear this guy down, even if he had a cold stare. Mason couldn't shake the feeling that they had known each other before. In fact, he was sure that they had conversations of intellect and wit at times. Mason smiled as he surveyed the book, but handed it back soon after taking in the title. Jungle cats... what an interesting hobby. Mason was more interested in reptiles and things of the like. Things that stayed hidden until read to strike. Like himself.
"Actually, to be honest," Masin started, "I feel as if we may have known each other in a previous life. Tell me, do you sense it too?" Masin asked the cold faced man.

Shandor just wanted to get back home. Another thing he despised about being around other humans was the high drama that went with them. Around his beloved cats, there was never any drama aside from that which nature provided, which Shandor handled with calmness and patience. When it came to human drama, he had no patience and at times had even showed a rather vicious side of his nature. Right now, as he heard what the man beside him had to say, he wanted to release that vicious side. This was no longer because the man's presence was irritating him, but because he was right. Shandor had felt this strange sense of a past connection as well. But how... where... when... why? And the worst part is that Shandor wanted to be around this guy long enough to find out. It was all so bloody frustrating!
"Yes... I do sense it," he said. He then looked about. It was too crowded near where they were for his taste, especially to discuss something like this. He turned back to the man. "Perhaps... a more secluded area to... continue this discussion?" He then founded himself extending his hand. "Shandor Kingsley."

Mason smiled as the man said that he sensed it as well. It was a relief, to know that Mason wasn't entirely on his own in that regard. As Shandor introduced himself, also speaking about moving to a more secluded area, Masons smile grew. He shook the mans hand, "A regal name. It suits you. Masin Serpente, at your service," at the final 'S' sound in that word, Mason elongated the 'ssss'.
"Tell me, is there somewhere you prefer?" Mason continued, pulling his hand away and gesturing in a slow semi circle to the world around them.

Shandor turned and looked at the man when he hissed his word. Like a snake. Why did that make Shandor uneasy? Why did that make Shandor further believe that he had met this man before? Shandor now wondered why he had decided to chat with this strange man. He supposed he had to find something out. So for now, he simply nodded at the name and hardly acknowledged the man's compliment.
"Mr. Serpente..." he said.
The man then asked if there was a place that Shandor preferred. Shandor would have preferred his home, but it was a good walk away, and for now, Shandor didn't entirely trust the man who stood beside him. Perhaps it would be best to remain in view of others, but away from their listening ears. He looked over and saw a coffee house. There was a section in a shaded outside area that was unoccupied. Shandor motioned to Masin and headed that way.
He paid the woman who owned the place a bit extra to ensure no one else sat in that area. He then ordered a black coffee with extra cream and a little sugar. Once he sat, he looked over at the man.
"Tell me, Mr. Serpente... how much do you... remember?" he asked.
