Eve had been working not stop for several hours, she hadn't even been keeping track of the time. As a botanist, there were just far too many plants to pay attention to in Wonderland and learn about. The entire place was basically made of plants, let's be honest! She was getting exhausted, but she couldn't stop. It was almost like a little addiction, though, her love for discovery and research when it came to plants. It was almost as if she was made to analyze life forms like that. Things that produced oxygen. Things that made a place livable.
She shook off the thought, leaning her head in her hands for a moment. She turned to the clock on the wall and suddenly sat up straight, a huge smile growing across her face.
It was 2 o' clock!
She jumped out of her chair, running toward the door, for any minute now the bell would ring and Rod Taylor, or Pongo as they called him, would be there with her mail and packages for the week. Granted, he usually showed up even if she didn't have any mail so she could easily look forward to him being there. She could easily count on him, come rain or shine. And today, she really needed a smile on her face.

"Thank you for the cookies! I'll see you tomorrow!" Pongo called to the closing door of the room he just left. He was surprised he was not overweight. So many people seemed to think they needed to reward him for delivering their mail. And he didn't mind cookies, or delivering their mail. He popped the last cookie into his mouth, chewing as he reached into the bag that slapped against his hip as he walked. The package he pulled out was heavier than anticipated. He hurriedly shifted so the box was balanced between his arms. He looked at the name on the box. "Everest Viola Emerson" He fought the grin that crept onto his face. He loved seeing Eve. She was always so much fun to talk to! With a ski p in his step he moved down the corridor of the palace. Eve's laboratory was at the end of this hall way, a very long hall. And apparently no one else but Eve needed mail. She got a lot of mail. At long last, he arrived at her door. He was about to knock, shifting the package so it rested on his hip, then stopped. His watch said 1:59. Not 2 o'clock yet. He should probably wait. And wait he did. 10 seconds. 8 seconds. 5 seconds. 2 seconds. Now he could knock. His knuckles rapped against he wood of the door, then he shifted the package back into his hands. "One incredibly heavy box for a Ms Emerson." He chimed at the door swung open.

Eve opened the door the second time knock came and her smile grew large as Pongos cheery smile was before her. "Oh, I'm sure it's not that heavy! Come in," she reached forward as if to take the box from him, but the only problem was it actually was extremely heavy. She stumbled a little. "Maybe you should drop it on that table for me," she was a little embarrassed at how heavy the box was as she gestured to a table nearby.
She closed the door behind him, following him to the table where he could set the box down.

Pongo bit back a smile as he shouldered the weight of the box once again. Walking over to the table, he arched his back to give him a slight height boost to get the box on the table. He rested his elbow on the top of the box. "I'm going to need you to sign for this one. What is in here anyway?" He asked, digging through his bag. He found his package paper and a pen and handed them to her, then he looked around the room. There were plants everywhere, and some of them he didn't recognize. "Are these new?" He asked, reaching out to touch the leaves.

She took the pen and paper, glancing at the box with a wicked smile. "It's a device that magnifies an image. I need to get a closer look at these plants here. I'm trying to figure out how old Wonderland is. As in, was it created just for us to be sent here or did it exist before?" she spoke quickly, not not so fast that he couldn't understand what she was saying. She signed the paper and passed it back to him.
"Oh, those? Yes. Well... no. I've had them for a while but they bloomed quite suddenly. Don't touch the ones behind you, though." Eve gestured to a plant with orange blossoms that was blooming over his shoulder. "Those ones will bite you."

Pongo drew his hand back slightly. then glanced over his shoulder at her. "What got you started on the age of Wonderland?' he asked incredulously. "Do you really think something like this could just pop up?" He fingered the first plant he had looked at, not the orange ones.
He thought about it. Wonderland seemed familiar. But in a dejavu way, not in a I've-been-here-before way. Could Wonderland have just cropped up? And could plants tell how old a place really was?
"Alright, you have peeked my interest. Show me how this dohickey works and I'll let you know if it was worth your money and my walking here to give it to you." He knew full well that he knew nothing about whatever was in that box, but he just loved seeing her smile. And while he was interested in her question, he had more pressing concerns. Like what kind of meat to buy at the grocery store.

Eve rolled her eyes but smiled as he claimed he could tell her if the microscope was worth the money. She opened the box, slowly, beckoning him toward her. "What got me started was the fact that we all have no idea how we got here, and I think that's a problem," she explained as she pulled the pieces out. "I don't think it just popped up, but didn't our memories just pop away? There's a lot more going on here than we think, Pongo."
She was determined to solve the mystery, of course, that's what have Eve a thrill. Not too mention she really didn't like the idea of memory loss... She felt as if it had distressed her in the past.
"Ok," she finished assembling the device, "come look through here," she stepped aside and gestured to the right spot, then placed a leaf underneath it to be magnified.

Roger walked as Eve walked over to the box. She seemed so in her element here, like she was doing exactly what she wanted to do. Sometimes he felt that way, but other times... he knew what she meant about their memories just popping away. Sometimes he felt like he could almost remember something else, something very different from the memories he was making down. But the most he got was fragments, feelings. Black and white, fear and intense determination. But what could those things have to do with each other? "So you are saying we just showed up here, and don't remember anything? That makes sense... but so really strange at the same time." He commented, his usual light air was fading as he contemplated someone or something taking his memories away. He stepped up to the device and stuck his eye on the eyepiece. A beautiful and brilliant picture came into focus. Hundreds of different shades of green competed for his attention at the same time and small shapes, both familiar and unfamiliar, fought for the limelight. He felt his breath leave in a hurry. "Wow, I can see why you do this all day every day." he commented. "I feel so tiny." He stood up straight with a confused look on his face, "But what can that tell you about how long Wonderland has been here?"

"What I'm saying is that I think whoever lived here before us is the one who brought us here," she explained, her eyes widening with the thrill of talking about her ideas and discoveries. "I mean, why else would we be here, in Wonderland? Someone must have wanted us all here for a reason... and I think that person grew up here. But, if I find that the leaves and plants are only a few months old, then I'll know that isn't the case."
Eve laughed as he said he felt tiny looking at the plant. "That's the thing... I think we are tiny," she muttered. Wonderland had some strange features, things that made her feel like they were actually shrunken human beings. Well, that may or may not be possible. Calling herself a 'human being' felt weird for a moment, too.
"Well, so far I haven't had much luck. I need to find plants deeper in the forest, things that didn't recently bloom. Everything around the castle is brand new it seems... like the Queen purges and regrows every year," she sighed. The Queen was entirely unhelpful in all of this.

Her last comment perked his interest.
"I could get you some plants from the forest." he assured her. "Actually my route takes me that way tomorrow. I could bring them to you."
He felt himself getting excited about this experiment Eve was doing. She had said they were tiny. But if he had to think of what felt right... he felt too big. He couldn't explain it. It wasn't like he was fat. Quite the contrary. He was not fat. But he felt too big. Sometimes when he woke up at night he could almost remember his dreams. Those dreams always had spots. But he could never understand that. If he remembered anything else about his dreams, the spots seemed insignificant. Being chased by old cars, running across the country side. What did that have to do with spots? He shook his head slightly, and neither of those things had to do with what was happening right now.
"What kind of plants do you need? I pass some strange things out there." he told her.

As he offered to get some plants in the forest, Eve smiled at him. "I have a better idea!" she said, stepping away from the magnifying device and grabbing her jacket, throwing it over her arms as she talked. "What if I went on your route with you? We could collect plants together, and even find some when your day is over!" she was so excited she picked up her bag, slung it over her shoulders, and untucked her long blonde hair from the straps. "Oh," she stopped, her face flushing a little in embarrassment. She easily got overexcited about things...
"That is, if that's all right. We don't even have to go today!" she chuckled, stepping back over to him and leaning on the table beside her.

A laugh escaped his mouth at her enthusiasm. "That would be just fine, we could go today. I just have some place I have to be around 5." he told her, cementing his time with Perry and the kids in his mind. "The rest of my route today does go through one part of the forest, but if you wanted we could go a littler farther in." He was excited to have company with him. He enjoyed doing his job and loved talking with the people. He even enjoyed all of the time he got to spend by himself. But sometimes it was nice to have someone to talk to. And today he had that.
